Yep it is an amazing record store. But dress, look, and act poor. There were never any prices when I went, and I felt pricing was based on the customer's appearance.
Now that the store has moved, that may have changed.
I have never understood why people love this place. The old location used to be a bit better just because it was bigger, but the new one is so disorganized and cluttered.
Everything here stinks of cigarrette smoke...I always have to shower when I come home. But, like a glutton for punishment, I visit every couple of months, because the new location is only 10 minutes away from my office...
The record selection isn't that great - mostly mainstream bands, but not a lot of obscure stuff. I was looking for some older King Crimson and Camel albums (which aren't really that obscure). I didn't find what I was looking for, but they must have had about 20 copies of "Kiss - Alive". Why? Their jazz selection is also pretty poor.
Most of their records are in poor shape, the covers worn or defaced or stained. No plastic covers here, not even the cellophane kind. Pricing is a joke - it is whatever Bill feels like charging you on that particular day. I saw a guy pay $15 for a U2 single LP that they had 10 copies of at Half Price Books for $5.
I guess what I really feel is that neither Bill nor his staff respect their merchandise, their customers or the music. If you're looking for something in particular, I would much rather recommend calling Good Records or making the trip to Forever Young in Grand Prairie.

Oh, Bill's Records. Takes me back. In addition to an expansive record collection, they used to have really cool t-shirts in there too- I bought a vintage Beatles "love songs" t-shirt for $20.

The most organized un-organized record store ever!
The staff here is really cool... They'll help you find whatever you're lookin for pretty quick. I don't know how they do it, but they do. Prices aren't always clearly marked, Bill behind the counter will let you know how much the stuff costs when you check out.
Check it out!

I worked here for six years. That's all I got.

I went to Bill's when I was passing through Dallas on tour and was completely blown away by the room full of records. Imagine a basketball court sized room, with record shelves from floor to ceiling. Any genre you can imagine, they have it at Bill's and I found a ton of classic jams. If you love music and you are in the Dallas area, goto Bill's.
