I like Bill's pizza. The sauce is good, a little spice with good flavor. The crust is crispy. The only problem is the prices are a bit high for pizza. This pizza is better than Emils.

I disagree with the cranky reviews of Bill's Pizza.  I like this place!  The atmosphere is really comfortable and cozy, like a log cabin.  The pizza has a crispy, thin crust and fresh toppings.  The service is great.  What more do you need from a pizza place, people?!

Great thin crust pizza, but the rest of Bill's offerings are the usual offering of sandwiches and burgers you can find at any other restaurant. Peanut lovers can rejoice in the complimentary bowl of nuts given to every table. I recommend the Hawaiian or Bill's Special pizza. I order one of these two nearly every time I dine in or carry out and have always received an excellent product.

I've been to the North location a few times and have usually had a good experience with the service and staff, the only exception being on my last visit when the hostess was too occupied chatting with her friends to notice my group had entered the restaurant. Thankfully a nearby waitress was more than happy to welcome us and get us seated and we had a great time.

I accepted a Groupon offer for Bill's - and went there for some drinks/appetizers after work one night.  We sat in the "bar" area at a table.  The waitress was not exactly pleasant.  We had the fries with cheese and bacon.  They were okay.  My friends enjoyed them, but I would have preferred to have a little more "kick".  The ambiance was okay, kinda loud, I will probably go back.

Not impressed at all. I don't know if we will order from here again. Definitely not the worst pizza I have ever had but far from good.
The hot wings were greasy and served with watered down ranch dressing.
    Disappointed.

I went back to Bills Pub for the first time in about a year or so. Took my boyfriend up to the burbs to hang out with my brother and have some of the best pizza in the Chicago Metro Area. And I was really disappointed.
We got the double decker 4 cheese with Onions and Garlic. My partner and I are vegetarians, my brother doesn't like mushrooms, and won't eat green peppers on pizza. So eh.
It smelled good. Tasted great! But it was.... disappointing. It was somehow lacking. The crust was crispy, but thinner than it had been in the past. Less sauce, less cheese, and, I honestly feel, less crust.

According to a few people I still know in the area, it's ben that way in a while. I still like the original in Mundelein a little better, and plan on taking my boyfriend back up there to get a real taste of the pizza we grew up eating.

Although NOT at all the same recipes of the First Original Bill's Pub in Mundelein, IL, still good. Different, but good. Not excellent, but very good.  And what is wrong with the cursor activity in these edit boxes? Re-do the       coding, it's shoddy. Makes it VERY annoying to bother to do reviews. This has been going on since November 2010.

    Average food at best.

I dont know of any other building that is made almost completely of wood that lacks any personality than this place.  Even the stag-horn lighting, high ceilings, and noisy open room doesanything to make this sterile place come to life.

The pizza is OK but not memorable and I know I have eaten sandwiches here but I cant remember what I had.

There is a Lou Malnati's just around the corner I would go there instead.

Somehow when Bill's expanded north, they failed to recapture the charm and (dare I say it?) funky atmosphere of the original Bill's in Mundelein. Even with the signature peanut shells on the floor, the Grayslake location is just too shiny and too bright for my tastes.

For some reason the pizza just isn't as good either; perhaps the older ovens add some magical element?

What you end up with is an average pizza joint frequented by families with pre-teens that would be better off at Chuck E Cheese.

My boyfriend and I went here after class one day and had an italian beef and olive pizza. It was really good - I've never had Italian beef on pizza before.
I'm not really a big fan of peanuts though, and having shells on the ground looks pretty tacky.

I'll have to respectfully disagree on the quality of the pizza; we found it to be decidedly ordinary. I ordered the steak sandwich, and the steak was thin, tough, and remarkably tasteless. The accompanying onion rings had obviously been frozen, most likely from Sysco or some other commercial provider. Rated low primarily due to the quality of the food.

As for the rest of our visit:
    * There appear to be no separate sections for smoking and non-smoking; this will be moot after January, 2008, though.
    * Although it was a quiet Saturday afternoon when we arrived, towards the end of our meal a Little League team and another group of young children arrived. This made the dining room extremely noisy, which wasn't really what we were looking for at the time.
    * The service was impeccable, and our waitress was friendly and personable. She was certainly the bright spot of our visit.
    * The peanuts are indeed tasty, and were very good to munch on as we waited for our order.

Having grown up in the pizza capital of the Midwest, and then living on the East Coast where every pizza is superb, I never gave much thought to where to get 'good' pizza. That is... until we moved to Illinois.

Enter: Bill's Pizza & Pub North. This is our go-to place for delicious pizza and has definitely become our favorite local pizza. Granted, what they say about the ambiance is true... a 'backwoods' lodge, with log cabin interior and stuffed/preserved animals perched/mounted on every available surface... it's part of the charm. Usually loud and bustling with kids & large parties, it's a good time.

Upon being seated, you are given a basket of peanuts and encouraged to throw the shells on the floor. (There are treads on the floors to keep you from slipping.) The menu is standard with the usual fried appetizers, salads, sandwiches & PIZZA! Bill's is famous for their Double Decker pizza, which contrary to the tendency to create and serve a deep dish pizza in Chicagoland, is light and crisp - a thin crust bottom is filled with cheese and toppings, then covered with another thin dough sheet, and covered again with cheese and toppings. I wasn't sure when we first ordered it, but we have been devotees ever since... definitely work a try!

Over many visits, with a range of family/friends, we've slowly sampled everything on the menu... even the lone dessert cookie & ice cream sandwich. Some of our favorites are: Bacon Cheddar Fries, Fried Mushrooms, Bill's Special Double Decker Pizza, the Hawaiian Pizza & the Taco/Mexican Pizza. On Fridays my husband always gets a cup of the Clam Chowder, and loves it. I've tried it as well, and we both agree that this is the best in the area (yes... even superior to that which is served by that famous local fish/seafood restaurant).

Bill's is worth a try - enjoy the lively atmosphere, delicious pizza and throw some peant shells on the floor!

Great thin crust pizza here.  Great atmosphere.  Eat the peanuts and toss the shells to the ground!  Kids love this place too.  Stay away from the Italian beef sandwich and just order the pizza, then you get the 4 star food.

As I've said in other reviews, ambience isn't that important to me.  Yes, it's brighter airier and cleaner than the original.  Yes there are peanut shells on the floor.  Yes they make an incredible double decker pizza, though, and that's the reason to go to Bill's.

Let me start by saying that the pizza is very good and I highly recommend getting the double Decker pizza. We go to Bill's Pizza with my in-laws. The thing that stops me from giving this 4 stars is due to the time we have to wait for a seat. They are not set up for parties large than 4 people. When we go there, we have 6 people (4 adults and 2 kids). We have waited close to an hour and a half to get seated on a Saturday night.
I kind of prefer the one in Mundelein. I might not be as pretty as the new one, but the waits never seemed long and I think that the run down atmosphere gives the place character.

Bill's Pizza has been living off a fading reputation for some time. Pizza at either location is simply not as good as it once was.  It's pretty much mid-pack these days. If you are going to try it, go to the restaurant and eat it there while it would be hot from the oven. One of real problems with delivered pizza is it takes so long to get to you, it gets pretty funky in the box, if not downright cold. The last time I ordered on a very non-busy Tuesday night, it took more than 90 minutes for the pizza to arrive, and I had to refuse it because it was cold.

Great place for family get-togethers and kid friendly.

I know people from the Mundelein area love Bill's Pub.  They are constantly having cravings for the Bill's Pub pizza.  I understand it's a local thing - if you eat something long enough and it becomes habit, you start to think it's good.  But it you're a real pizza fan who has tried many places in Chicago and New York, Bill's Pub will be a big disappointment.

The original is much better than this Bill's Pub North location.  I don't really like the pizza at the original Bill's Pub and here even less.  Service is slow and not very attentive.  The pizzas are slapped together inconsistently and it can take 45 minutes to get your thin crust pizza because the place is packed with locals.  As far as the pizza itself - I really don't like the crust.

The ONLY reason to go is if you like the endless supply of peanuts where you can throw the shells on the floor.  (Remember the Ground Round?)

I haven't tried everywhere but for me the great Chicago Area pizza places are: Lou Malnati's (all over), The original Uno and Due downtown (not the chain stores), Pizano's and an odd ball that also makes my list - Barnaby's Pizza (their crust is awesome).

Food is equal to the original Bill's Pub, but it definitely doesn't have the ambiance. Carry out for Bill's Pub north, and eat in for the original.
