Unlike most of my reviews... this is going to be rather short...

Understand when you go to Bill's donuts, you are getting the freshest and greatest donut product anyone and/or anywhere has to offer. Four previous reviews of 5 stars agree with me... I'm not sure what more I can say.

Warning: If you go late at night, you will get caught in the late night drunk crowd. I used to be annoyed by this, but then I "observed" the situation one night and realized everyone is VERY friendly to everybody. It almost seems like a club during the late night hours.

Bill's is awesome, the end.

This place has donuts so fresh that the glazed donut I bought a day earlier (I had leftovers, but don't ask why- they are so good!) and their day-old donut tasted fresher than donuts I have bought elsewhere and tasted immediately. And they taste excellent every time. Makes me eat more donuts than I should (terrible for the waistline) but if your going to be bad, why not make it worth it?
I kid you not. I am not just gushing. Ok, well maybe I am gushing, but this should be your go-to bakeshop for donuts, trust me.

Centerville Ohio kick's New York City's donut ass. If you ever hear me saying that I can get the best of any cuisine I want within walking distance of my home (and you will hear me say that) you need only remind me about Bill's Donut Shop.

Plain glazed, chocolate cake - don't forget the pretzel (plain glazed in an awesome shape that makes it taste better) - is your mouth watering yet? I haven't even gotten to the cream and jelly filled yet. I could go on all day. I could sit in a booth all day just trying different types.

My husband and I have had multiple discussions about how someone could make a fortune by franchising Bill's and putting one right in the middle of the West Village - complete with friendly counter clerks. A girl can dream, can't she?

Oh how I love Bill's Donuts, let me count the ways...one, two, three. Alright I think you get the point when I say that these are the best donuts in Dayton, hands down no debate whatsoever. If a friend tries to tell you that Krispy Kreme or Tim Hortons is better you need to evaluate your friendship or get them checked into a doctor right away.

Bill's is situated right off the main drag of Centervill in one of the most unassuming spots that you can imagine. They have several booths for groups to sit in and talk about the local game or you can belly up to the counter and take your donuts and coffee right there. They have a plethora of donut, pastry, and muffin options for you to peruse in glass cases that line the counter and behind them as well.

They have all the classic donuts: glazed, french cruellers, long john's, donut holes, etc. Anything you would imagine would be in a typical donut shop they have it. There a some that you see here that you don't typically see elsewhere, such as the pretzel and sour cream donuts. While the pretzel donut is not that much of a stretch from the regular glazed donut, somehow the shape and the consequential texture elevate to a level all it's own.

It should be mentioned that they do have tasty muffins as well as turnovers and cookies. They are good on their own right and you won't be dissapointed, but there is something there that keeps drawing you towards the inevitable donut decision.  You have a plethora of drinks options that range from your milk and orange juice to the surprising coffee. It shouldn't come as a great surprise that they would have good coffee considering that their donuts are out of this world, but none the less the coffee is better than one would expect.

You are always greeted with a warm smile and hello when you walk in and make your decisions and they have no problem waiting while you make up your mind. I know because I always have a hard time to figure out what other 2 donuts I want to go with my pretzel.  Yes, I get 3 donuts because I can't eat just 1 as that would be a waste of so many donut possibilities and to deprive my taste buds of that would be cruel.

All the prices are reasonable and you can easily walk out with 3 donuts and a drink for well under $5 and considering 3 donuts could suffice as a filling lunch or breakfast, what a deal!

No matter where I go or however many donuts I eat, I don't think I will ever find another donut that will rival that of Bill's. Whether it is the childhood memories, the donut options and flavor or the environment that keeps me coming back time and time again, Bill's will always be there to satiate my donut fix.

I have two reasons to go back to my hometown:  visiting my parents and going to Bill's Donut Shop.  Not necessarily in that order.

The donuts at Bill's are almost as good as the memories they conjure up.  You see, I spent many a late night hanging out with friends at Bill's.  In my youthful ignorance I assumed establishments like this were everywhere.  Sadly, they are not.   The pastries are truly world class and will make you wonder how you could ever eat a Dunkin Donut again.

Everything is made fresh on the premises.  You know you're home when you open the car door and smell the glorious aroma of fried dough...

They have dozens of varieties so let me help you out a little.  Here are some tried and true favorites:
the Iced Persian (a sort-of cinnamon roll with maple frosting and nuts.)  Are you kidding me?
The sour cream donut.  How do improve on the basic donut?  Just add sour cream!!!
The bismark (chocolate or vanilla frosted,) which feature a choice of custard *or* cream filling.  awww....
and that's just a first course!

The coffee is better than you'd ever expect from a little dive donut joint.

Thomas Wolfe titled his excellent novel "You Can't Go Home Again."  He obviously didn't grow up near Bill's Donut Shop.

I moved to CA this year and I am still grieving over the loss of my Bill's Doughnuts. No one makes a sour cream doughnut that makes me teeth tingle from the sugar as well as Bill's does. I also believe they infused their cream filling with crack because there is no other white creamy substance I have found that is quite as delectable. I spent many a late night after imbibing in tasty adult beverages at Bill's and the bond my friends and I shared over coffee, doughnuts, and drunken stories cannot be broken. I miss you Bill's and look forward to visiting on my next trip back to Dayton.
