The Hog Pit was one of my fav dingy remnants of what this neighborhood used to be but I must say that Bill's Bar and Burger has been a stellar replacement with a similar price point - cheap.
The menu is small with only a few types of burgers, including a turkey burger and a blackened grouper sandwich, hot dogs, chili, and fries. Basically all American food necessities. They have a full bar and all sorts of milkshakes with or without alcohol. Gotta love that.
I've been a few times already and can't help but order the same thing 'cuz I have a hankerin' for it. The Bobcat burger burger comes on a large sesame bun, flat griddled patty, topped with green chilies, jalapenos and pepper jack cheese. The pickles, lettuce and tomatoes set on the side, just the way I like. The burger definitely rivals Shake Shack in construction and style. Mmmm mmm mmm, disco fries, the perfect mini heart attack - crispy fries doused in gravy and melted american cheese.
Great for lunch, loud for dinner. Either time, the food is the same always scrumptious, greasy and good. This is an excellent spot if you wanted something easy in the Meatpacking District. You can go buy your fifteen hundred dollar Alexander McQueen shoes then turn around pay $5.50 for a burger to die for.
It's quite surprising that this burger joint is right in front Spice Market restaurant.
Since the place was a burger joint, I had the Bill's burger with american cheese. The burger is flat but at the same time moist and full of flavor.
I also ordered a disco fries, which consists of french fries covered with cheese :-) It won't disappoint you.
For dessert you can order the Ice cream Sundae and is big enough to share.
I'll definitely come back :-)
"That's Not The Manager. That's The Micromanager."
I know it's wrong for me to dock points due to an overzealous manager (I think that's who he was, anyway), but I can't help myself. The man was, to be blunt, a doofus. A boob. A buffoon. Sorry, foreign lady with the accent I couldn't place, but the micromanager had misinformed you when he told you an English muffin was just a "small muffin." Well. I guess I'm just being picky... but when I hear "muffin" I think sweat dough and blueberries, not toasted, semi-hard cornmeal.
And yes. Our waiter has spoken with us. Why were you asking every table within earshot whether or not their servers had said "hi" yet? And yes. The food is fine. Our waiter, the one you just checked up on, already asked us. Don't you have something to do? Shouldn't you stop hovering over our table and like... fire someone or make a schedule or something?
ANYWAY... I was impressed with the overall quality of food here. I ordered the Sunset and Vine (minus tomato) and it was pretty good. I was a little perturbed at the fact that I couldn't order it grilled to my personal liking; the waitress informed me that "All burgers are made medium-well." I usually prefer a little more pink, but I'm not going to cry over a burger (okay, maybe a little bit. Just a tear or two). I also ordered a vanilla shake which was bomb diggity. Whoever invented the burger and shake combo was a genius.
The burger arrived and tasted fairly good. The patty was a little thin, and fast-food-esque in presentation, but not in taste. It didn't come with fries, but I usually only pick at them if they come with so I couldn't complain. And it was probably one of the cheapest burgers I've had in the city: only $5.95.
All in all, it was a good meal, despite the smallish size and inability to order at anything other than medium-well. The prices impressed, however. If I'm ever in the neighborhood I'd be okay with returning if I were in the mood for a quick, no nonsense burger and shake.
Lesson learned: an English muffin is a small muffin, and that burgers taste better when they don't cost $9.99.
What's the big deal about this place. It's ok. The burgers are small so you need 2 of them and the fries seem frozen. The oreo shake was the bomb but other than that, I don't recognize the hooplah about this place. Maybe I have to go again.
I want to disclose that I am not a big fast-food burger person; I prefer a meaty thick patty to the flat patty that is served up at Bill's. I knew when they didn't ask how I wanted my burger cooked that I might not be crazy about the meal coming up. However, I tried the fat cat burger (english muffin, sauteed onions and i switched out the american for cheddar) was quite good! Paired along with some Cold Ass beer, it was a good meal for a fair price. While a tasty meal, it didn't quite earn a place in my favorite burger rotation but I will be back to try their disco fries and shakes!
It took me a bit to figure out where it was that I had eaten this great burger and now that I have, I'll be back for certain! First off, the English muffin with caramelized onions was definitely the way to go. In my view, with these burgers, you have to go big or go home. I went big...or so my eyes made me think (stomach capacity is a whole different set of negotiations).
The sides are great, I am always excited when I see disco fries (give me cheese and gravy and I'll show you a french fry that's getting eaten tonight!) but beware on portion size, one is enough for two if not three people, really. Onion rings are serious business too.
It used to be the only place you could go around here for a burger was really Pop Burger...I guess Bill's is here to show us the way to the true burger meal. Thanks, Bill!
Classic meatpacking district place with that corporate backing pushing a faux downtown thing. That said, people (and tourists) seem to like it as it's casual and their prices aren't crazy.
The burgers (the main pull) are ok. Their size and thickness seem to be inconsistent between visits and the last time they were pretty thin although that is apparently their 'thing'. The patty looks pretty sad and reminds me of the same patties you would see at any diner in the city: uniform color. Bland. Flat.
Sides are fine - all the basic fried things. Boneless chicken wings aren't that exciting but probably satisfy non-beef eaters.
Waitstaff can be entertainingly corny about the up-sell of drinks and desserts.
I came here with two of your favorite yelpers and we were very pleased. This no-frills bar serves alcohol-absorbing food until 4am. They serve hot dogs, buffalo wings, but the burger is obviously the star.
They use Pat La Frieda Beef and a have a special technique. They flatten the burger with a spatula to produce a exceptionally thin burger that is crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. It was delicious. We got a pitcher of Blue Moon and the disco fries on the side were good too.
This is a great place to finish the night if you're out in the area. I will be back.
At first I was not too enthused when I heard Bill's would be taking over the old space of Hog Pit, given the H.P. was one of my favourite places in town and that Bill's is a BR Guest joint. However, as I perused the menu and heard a few good things, we decided to give this joint a go. I have to admit, as much as I hated losing the Hog Pit to Chelsea, Bill's seems good enough to take its space... for now.
I do enjoy a good burger every now and then, and this place has a good burger. My friends went with the classic, and I decided on the Fat Cat without cheese. For some reason, they only had American cheese the night we went, but that won't always be the case. It's not the best burger in town, but it's pretty good, especially after a night of drinking. I also love the Cold Ass on tap, both drinking and saying it. My favourite thing was probably the onion rings... everyone claims to have beer-battered onion rings, but at Bill's, you can actually taste the beer. It was so delicious we actually got another round. The fries I could give or take, since there was nothing particularly special about them.
The crowd was, unfortunately and expectedly, a bit douchey, but hopefully as time passes, they will find a new place to go. The service was fantastic, and our server was totally helpful and attentive. Overall, I'd recommend it for a good, inexpensive meal in a ridiculous neighbourhood.
Yeah Shake Shack IS still the best burger if this type in NYC. Sorry, it's the truth. But I'd prefer to rate this place as its own, not in comparison to a NY burger veteran.
The burger was pretty good, well prepared, pretty damn tasty at 3AM but not better than Shake Shack as people have been saying (yeah I know, I just compared it but what can I say?!) I had the The Sunset and Vine - Bill's Classic with Cheese topped with Lettuce, Tomato and Special Sauce
It's also pretty freakin awesome that I can enjoy a burger that is not Mc.Donalds so late at night on a weekend, I'll give it that much, and the disco fries were amazingly awesome. FRIES + GRAVY + CHEESE = What else in the world could anyone possibly want?
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure I'll still come back and enjoy a Bills burger sometime in the near future, but if it is daytime I'll probably be standing in line at Shake Shack instead. If Shake Shack is closed though, this place is a good Plan B. I compared again didn't I? Oops.
Bill's Bar & Burger probably deserves a 2-star but since their food is inexpensive (well minus the milkshake), I'm giving them a 3-star.
I took Killerasp K. & Alexis M.'s suggestions and ordered the Tuscan Turkey Burger --great, flavorful and pretty juicy for a turkey burger! Really liked the patty was bigger than the bun --not gigantic yet not a small burger. If you really want fries, get their fries --they are just fries.
I had a similar situation with Phoebe J. I ordered the Creamsicle milkshake. I realized that after my burger and fries arrived that the bartender forgot to place my milkshake order...doesn't even bother to ask me if I wanted some liquid to wash my food down as I wait for the m.s.. The milkshake arrived and it was pretty lumpy....tasted just like a Creamsicle but don't recalled reading "surprise" lumps on the menu...I asked them to blend it a little more...I finish my burger and half my fries and I am still waiting for the damn milkshake. It arrives when I pay my bill (which I took off the bill), and they had blended it way too long. Sigh. Now the bartender apologize a few times but geez you kind of expect more on a $7 milkshake.....
As a sucker for boneless chicken treats, I was actually bowed over by the boneless buffalo chicken (see my pic!). At first I was appalled that these 4, 5 pieces of the chicken cost almost 8 bucks, but once I bite into them, I was amazed at how tender and juicy they are. The buffalo seasoning is spot-on though not too spicy.
Now the burger. I had the classic with cheese and added bacon. The meat is nicely charred around the edges and was juicy though not as tasty as Shake Shack or Corner Bistro. The bottom bun almost melted, or soaked in meat juices when I picked the burger up; once I flipped it over after a few bites, the buns were fine since a good burger for me has to hold up and not fall apart.
The Oreo shake with added Ameretto was a home run. Now the downside: the fries were just awful. Dry, stale, no crunch, a very unfortunate accompaniment to the burger. The service was pleasant, but they were really eager to clear your plates as soon as you finish something....very eager. I felt a bit rushed even though everything else about the service was fine.
Very glad to have this place in addition to all other burger joins in the city.
Delicious!!! Possibly my favorite burger in NYC. And a value at $5.95 for the Classic with cheese.
The bun: There was something special about the sesame seed bun- it was soft and plush- but lightly toasted on the outside, to form this perfect crisp shell, with the essence of toasted sesame.
The beef: La Frieda, griddled and patted a little thin (we love thin burgers... reminiscent of the famed Blimpie Burger of Ann Arbor, MI), delicious flavor, perfect edges.
The kitchen "manager" (the chef?) was inspecting every plate out- hustling the kitchen staff. He cares. A lot. It's nice to see..
All in all a GREAT burger.
Three things irked me, making this review only 3 stars:
-I felt it was bait and switch: $5 burger- $10 well vodka drink. It's in the epicenter of the Meatpacking, I realize, but it seemed kinda wrong.
- Our burger arrived before our $10 well vodka drinks. We sat there with no water, no vodka, and the place was 1/2 full. We received apologies, and an offer of a piece of their amazing looking key lime pie, but we simply wanted to leave get back to our regular haunts with $3-5 well vodkas.
- Empty ketchup (it's your opening week! they should be on their game). We had to get up to find ketchup. Staff noticed and I could see their disappointment. But it's only a condiment.. .
They're pretty new- let's hope they work out their kinks- and perhaps a burger/beer deal or happy hour can come around.
I was really excited to try this place after reading many articles about this place right before it opened. However, I wish I had gone to Bonnie's in park slope instead. I had a burger with cheddar cheese, caramelized onions and pickles. The meat tasted very bland, and if it wasn't for the toppings it would have had no taste at all. The onion rings were over fried and extremely salty. The service was about as good as the kind that I can get at McDonald's, they were very un-knowledgeable about their alcohol and most of the food, they did not even ask how we would like our burgers cooked.
As far as this being a good place to grab a beer, you'd be better off getting a six pack of coronas. The beer was over priced and the selection was tiny. I ordered a bottle of Anchor Steam Porter, it took too long for them to get one because they didnt have any at the bar so they had to go to the basement. When it was brought out it was on the warm side and the only glass they had for beer was regular soda glass that was chilled. So, chilled glasses and beer are a no-no, as much as this sounds snotty it is not. If I pay for a beer the least they can do is serve it properly so that I can have the full taste of it, not a cool diluted beer.
However, the thing that will keep me away from this place is how the cooks and bus boys acted. The kitchen is right near the bar and the cooks spent way too much time with the bartender than they spent making burgers. But, the most disturbing part was how the bus boys were standing around picking at peoples' fries and onion rings while the food was waiting to be served. The place were the food was waiting to be served was in full view, this sort of behavior is completely unacceptable in any establishment.
I expected much more from this place, and unfortunately the owner should fire most of the staff and obviously poor manager and start from scratch. I will not be coming here again. I would rather pay for a burger at markt with is about $16, but far superior than this wanna be burger joint.
Just because most of the burgers are priced between $6 and 9$ it does not mean that food and establishment should suck.
Pretty damm good burger!
I'm in this area a lot and for the value and quality, this burger can't be beat.
I ordered a $5.95 cheeseburger and a beer that I think the bartender said Ass Cold? I dunno but it was pretty tasty.
This is a great neighborhood place. Its stings when you get the bill at Pop Burger and go WTF just happened? Their burgers are mini burgers and I'm still hungry(I do love Pop Burger fries :P). This place has a nice charm to it, Bar in the front and cool out pad in the back.
The burger itself? Its like something that my Uncle Sal would make, Its a mamas burger. Fresh meat that's pounded thin with fresh lettuce, tomato and pickles.
Nice place to chill if your hungry and want to suck down some cold ones.
NYBULLY Approved!
New York magazine's Underground Gourmet gave Bill's 3 stars so after an evening at Film Forum we headed to the meatpacking district for the appropriate classic burger with American cheese. We shared a pitcher of Brooklyn Brewery Brown Ale, two hamburgers, boneless chicken wings and french fries for about $20/person.
The classic burger was the best part of the meal (besides the suds.) The wings were good but I would ask for sauce on the side next time, the hot sauce made the breading soggy and I like my chicken cripsy.
Note: There's no honey mustard here but servers are fast to bring the mayo. There is new buzz about this spot so expect a wait. We had 30 minutes to kill on Friday night around 8pm.
I loved the veggie fries. So good.
The cheeseburger was good too. I'm not really a burger connoisseur but I thought it was enjoyable, maybe a bit too salty. My boyfriend didn't find his burger too salty and maybe it was just me but everything I ate here seemed salty (this isn't really a complaint but an observation). I liked the bun. Thought the meat was perfectly cooked. Good coffee too. Would definitely come back.
I first read about this place on eater and on serious eats. from the early reviews, i had high hopes for this place but after eating it today for lunch, id have to disagree with the rave reviews this place has been getting.
my friend and i ordered a Classic, a Fat Cat, Tuscan Turkey Burger and some onion rings.
the burgers looked great, but taste was another story. each burger came on the bun with the lettuce, tomato, and pickle on the side. we came for the burger...not the vegetables so we left these on the side.
the classic was disappointing. the burger was cooked well to over well done. they do have a specific style of cooking where the meat is crisped on one side then flattened very thinly then flipped. but b/c the burger was very thin, by the time the burger his the bun...all the juices are cooked out of the burger. the flavor of a good burger comes from the juices of the fat. this burger tasted plain and dry.
The Fat Cat was better. the burger came on a English muffin. English muffins do a good job in absorbing the burger juices. the caramelized onions did a good job in adding flavor to the burger. the fact the burger patty was much thicker than the Classic helped it retain the tasty juices. better than the Classic.
this is embarrassing to admit, but the Tuscan Turkey Burger was best of the three burgers. the ground turkey was spiced with provolone, parsley and Garlic. very very good for a turkey burger.
onions rings were plain jane onion rings. nothing special. if i had a blind taste test...id would imagine these were pre-made/pre-frozen onion rings. if i had to pick great onion rings at a burger joint, id have to pick Stand and Black Iron Burger Shop.
the service was great. the waiters were very attentive with us and made sure our water glasses were filled and table was clear of empty plates.
whoever says this place is better than shake shack, is just high. just between shake shack and this place, shake shack is better by far. im not saying shake shack is the BEST burger in nyc...but its WAY better than Bills.
Bills could be a great burger place. it has the potential. the price is just right. you cant go wrong with their prices. but the meat of their burgers were just too overcooked. i enjoy having some fat juices in my burger. it what gives a burger its taste. if Bills can thicken their patties so its not so dry and thin when it finally hits the bun, then it would much better. ill give this place another try in a couple of months when the dust settles.
OMG... SO GOOD!!!
I love this burger!!! the thin style is so good. the middle is just juicy enough (a little hint of pink, but not raw/rare, perfect) and the edges are crispy and sooo tasty. got the classic with cheese. ate the whole thing without putting anything on it... the sign of a great burger... needs no condiments (although it came with great pickles and fresh tomatoes/lettuce. just perfect. exactly what a burger should be. just enough to fill you up and not feel stuffed. if youre a big eater, you could handle two, or a double.
fries were pretty good/standard, not a home run, but no complaints. milkshake was PERFECT, i dont see what anyone could have to complain about. awesome shakes.
LOVE that the staff has NO UNIFORMS, bravo steve!!! waitstaff is so much more attractive here with their casual t shirts and jeans instead of stupid black shirts etc. GREAT CALL!!!! and the stafff was awesome. my waiter (receipt says Alex C) was great, friendly and professional, and in a cool tshirt, looking good.
i am obsessed with burgers and if this place was in my neighborhood, it would be my fav in NYC. its kind of like an amazing version of a Five Guys Burger, similar style but waaay better quality.
$5.95 for the burger and $4.50 for a draft... in the meatpacking district?! bravo!!! Thats cheaper than the two burger joints in my hood (the over-rated DuMont Burger and the who cares Williamsburger)!!!
HEADLINES:
Bill's Fat Cat Wonderful But Fails to Beat Out Shake Shack
It's near impossible to make a bad burger when you got Pat La Freida supplying your meat. Actually, its hard to give too much credit to most any successful burger restaurant that uses this masterful purveyor. (Although I'm on my way Minetta!) The flavors from their beef blend is what truly differentiates these restaurants' burgers from others. So unless restaurants are complimenting the burger with creations and condiments that add (and add successfully) more than marginally to the meat's flavors, they can't be too proud for being critically acclaimed.
At Bill's Burger, the Fat Cat was a wonderful thing, due in part to the carmelized onions. However, its still the meat that shone through brightest, and for that, Bill's Burger is less deserving of any accolades than those mad meat scientists downtown. Aside from the onions, the burger sported a seasame bun (I custom ordered this but maybe I should try it as is with the english muffin next time) and American cheese. Clearly, this isn't the most brilliant example of a LaFrieda burger. I'm not saying simple is bad. In fact, buns and American cheese is all you really need because with this quality of meat, simple is almost always better. All I'm saying is, it doesn't take a genius to griddle a cheeseburger well. True praise is deserved only when you take a fundamentally great ingredient and make it greater through your own ingenuity. And that is why Shake Shack wins. Meyer's Shack sauce is a maddening addition to the meat that mystifies and excites (Direct quote from the gf trying her first Shack burger: "Yo, why is this so good?! Like seriously... why!?"). Bill's is a little more straighforward. Also, I prefer the way Shack griddles the patties, not smashing them as severely as they do at Bill's, where a juicy medium rare is unattainable because the meat is pressed so thin. The upshot is, I'm nitpicking, and really, I loved Bill's burger. But unlike SeriousEats' Ed Levine, choosing between Shack and Bill is not like choosing between two of my equally loved children. It's like choosing between two of my children, one of whom is uglier and less intelligent. (Haha.. I'm just kidding. If I had children I wouldn't love one less for being uglier... I think)
So we heard this was the new great burger spot and decided to give it a try. People were talking up these burgers so I was excited to try them. I ordered a cheeseburger, a chili cheese dog, and onion rings.
First came the chili cheese dog. I have to say, it was way better than the burger. Probably the best hotdog I have eaten in a while. The dog itself was cooked so the skin was well done on a grill the way I like them. They are defiantly not your run of the mill dog that comes from a the store. As if it wasn't tasty enough, the chili on top was fantastic. They make it with brisket and bacon. I would love a whole bowl next time.
Next came our burgers and onion rings. I have to say that the burger was nothing special. Its fast food style that reminded me of steak and shake. You can't really tell that they are La Frieda beef. They taste like regular burgers. I like a good greasy burger but the bottom bun was so soggy that I could barely eat it. The onion rings were pretty awesome. Real crispy and battered well. I kinda wish they had a dipping sauce for them.
Strangely the hotdog and the chili were what stood out as excellent from our meal. Lunch came out fast and our server was attentive. Finally the bill was very cheap. I recommend Bill's but not for the burgers.
Good not great....certainly not the best burger in town. We both had the classics with cheese and her bun was soggy and wet. Mine came with the special sauce and it was tastier as the bun held up better. The disco fries were great though, not soggy but doused in cheese whiz and gravy...If they can get their bun situation together it would be much better!!!
For reasons I don't understand, I ended up eating here twice in like three days. Both times I ate fast and alone, first time I got the burger with jack cheese and poblanos, second time I slammed a cheeseburger. They were both good, flattened and kinda shake shacky, but overall it felt more like what a 5 guys should strive to be. Expensive drinks, oversalted fries but good for some sweet ass grease and burger goodness. WAY better than the ever shitty Pop burger a block up.
I came with some friends on a Saturday afternoon. There was a 20-minute wait, which raised my expectations for this place (though I should have learned by now that a crowded restaurant isn't necessarily a good one). I ordered the "classic" with American cheese. As other reviews have noted, the patties are thin and crisp on the outside. The inside was more or less juicy. But there wasn't anything spectacular about this place. The meat wasn't particularly tasty, and the grilling didn't add much to the flavor. The seasoning and sides were straight-forward. My friends who had the turkey burger and the "fat cat" (burger with carmelized onions and cheese on an English muffin) were also underwhelmed. Sure, the prices are good, but I'm not sure the burger is any better than what you can find in a diner. I should mention, though, that the fries are good (crispy and not greasy).
So I had been dying to try the new hot spot burger joint downtown. Went last week for the first time. The first thing I will say is the vibe is great. Really nice people working there. Lots of different kinds of customers. Lots of kids. The food, however, just eh. The burgers have a kind of greasy fried taste. I prefer a thick burger, grilled rare. I had the much talked about vegetable fries and was not impressed. The boneless chicken wings, however, were a nice option but a poor substitute for the real thing. I would go back on vibe alone (also, very well priced there) but the food isn't my fave.
The Sunset and Vine and the Chocolate Shake alone are worth the trip.
We visited on a recent Saturday afternoon and were quoted a 15 minute wait but took open seats at the bar. I enjoy thin patties and Bill's certainly are (along with a yummy crispness from the griddle), but overall were nothing special. I thought the bun was just average and the lettuce/tomato were not particularly fresh. The "Disco Fries" weren't very good - covered in cheese and gravy, but tasted straight out of my high school cafeteria. I'm sure I'd go back if I were in the neighborhood and craved a burger, but I'd rather have Shake Shack compared to Bill's.
This new burger joint opened today for lunch with hype and anticipation. Some foodie reviewers even wrote:
"Many of the first reports, including those from the big-dog burger critics, suggest that the Bill's Classic burger might even rival that titan of New York meaty satisfaction, the Shack Burger."
As a self proclaimed Foodiot who used to work right by Madison Square's Original Shake Shack, I cannot express how disappointed I left the establishment today after lunch.
We walked in the place around opening time. Right before the lunch rush so we could enjoy our meal. This was a smart move as the restaurant filled up with hungry suits shortly after we sat.
We ordered the Bill's classic, the Fat Cat, the Tuscan turkey burger, some onion rings and a chocolate milkshake.
First came the shake. It was all I would expect from a $5+ milkshake, creamy, flavor full, decadent.
Then we were served the burgers and rings and that's when my heart stopped, not in a good way.
I have the feeling that the cook thought the ground beef he was using for the Bill's Classic was still breathing or beating because he took great care to pound and flatten the crap out of it and grilled it beyond any recovery. That burger was deader than the leather of my wallet and possibly dryer.
The Fat Cat, between 2 English muffins tried it's best to get my confidence back in this joint with the caramelized onion and perfectly melted cheese. Only to fall once again to the cook's attention that its meat does not retain any juiciness.
The (relatively) good surprise came from the Turkey burger. Probably because I think that the meat cannot get any dryer anyway. It was tastier than most turkey burgers and was a good choice to finish our sampling.
Onion rings lovers, you can move along. While not terrible, they were just uninteresting.
Now with such a dismal review, I am still giving it 2 stars. The shake was nice and the staff was great. Loved the fact that our waiter, Erik, was wearing a head sweatband, you don't see that often enough anymore. He was great, attentive and refilling water as soon as its level was passing under the half mark in our glasses. Plus he explained to us how the meat was cooked and why it was on the "well done" side.
Will come back... if the chef realizes that his meat is already dead and he doesn't need to murder it anymore.
I actually really enjoyed my burger. It was different, being more flat than fat, but just go with it. I ordered The Sunset and Vine (Bill's Classic with Cheese topped with Lettuce, Tomato and Special Sauce). For only 5.95 it was a steal. Honestly I was at the Food and Wine Burger Bash, I tried over 17 burgers - and this one would have been at the top of the list. If you like Shake Shack style you will enjoy this place. Not to mention I sat at the bar by myself and everyone was very friendly.
Very good burger. Thin patty with crispy edges. Bun is a tad too soft so it gets a bit soggy at the bottom. Fries are good (although the ones with cheese and gravy aren't my thing).
despite being horrified by the recent NYT article on the wretched health record of the ground beef industry, i decided to sacrifice my well being for the sake of a good new burger. the space was nice: clean, contemporary burger joint. friendly staff. the burger was solid. i got the classic with amer. cheese. juicy but not exactly bursting with flavor. still, a solid burger. fries sucked. half the batch must've been scooped up from the bottom of the frialator and was completely inedible. my buddy's o-rings were good, tho. and i went for the oreo shake, and that was very good. still, overall, not a burger i'd go out of my way to get again. paul's palace is still my favorite go-to burger joint in the city.
yum
