Now that I'm no longer commuting to Los Angeles every day, I'm not using the Bike Station much, but when I did, it was well worth the price of admission... which is free (for now. they should be charging.) during regular hours.

Things you need to know about Bikestation.
* A good, safe place to keep your bike. Beats locking it to a tree or light pole
* The guys know their stuff about bikes. I'm not sure what kind of parts they have on hand, so you may not get same day service, but they seem to always be tweaking on the bikes of waiting customers when I go there.
* Don't go for the warm and fuzzies. Dominic and the boys are no -nonsense, good at what they do, but not exactly Chatty Kathies.
* Active in the Long Beach community, trying to make the LBC better and safer for riders.
* They're friends with Russ Roca, which is like being next to bike-godliness I think. If you don't know, you better ask somebody.

Long story short, if you're going downtown during the day, take the bike, stash it at Bikestation and have yourself a good time, but remember to pick it up by 6:00 or you'll be in bike-jail for the night.

Man,I hate this fucking place!!

Every time I deal with them, I get a bunch of hipster attitude.  The one time I  used their services, I asked them to do a tune-up to my then boyfriends now husband's bike.  I made sure to tell them that it wasn't my bike and that I needed them to call me when they had finished it.

Long story short, less than 30 days and no calls to me later, they sold his bike and didn't even apologize or attempt to make anything right.  Had I had concrete evidence of what happened, I would have taken them to court.

Recently, husband took his  bike over there to get it licensed after buying it on craigslist, and they told him they couldn't license it without a receipt!  Get the fuck out of here, the fire dept doesn't even require that.

It's a shame that these losers taint the growing bike community in Long Beach.   Long Beach aims to be the most bike friendly city in the country, but  until they make the people in the industry more accessible, its going to be a hard road to hoe.

I saw an ad on craigslist for track pedals for $20, so I quickly headed over there right after I got out of class and bought a pair. The guy that rang me up said it was 20 bucks even, no tax! Awesome!

I came in again a few days later to get my gf some new pedals as well, the guy was busy with a customer, and took awhile for him to ring me up, but again, didn't charge tax, so I didn't mind at all.

Overall, the staff was awesome. Really nice and aren't like other bike shops staffs. They really help and aren't a big snob about it. I actually felt welcomed and noticed and they are DEFINITELY not overpriced at all whatsoever like every other bike shop out there.

I will be definitely visiting place more often!

Great service! I walked by today and found their new, temporary location on Broadway. The middle-aged guy working there enthusiastically showed me their bike rentals, which are also for sale, and their secure bike parking. He encouraged me to take a test ride on a few bikes and was happy to point me to the cheaper ones without any attempt at upselling (he said a 3-speed internal hub was plenty for anywhere in town short of Signal Hill), and he knew most of the details about the frames and components. Clearly, this man enjoyed his job, and was happy to help out a customer who was new to the field.

I will let you know how things go if l end up buying from them, and I plan to go there for service and parking in the future. This place is a great deal.

I have a bike that sat on my balcony for a year and then spent a year in my garage. It was in pretty sad shape, and I wasn't even sure where to start with getting it back into riding condition.

A friend recommended this place. I took my bike in yesterday, picked it up today, and 80 bucks later it's ready to go. New chain, complete tune-up and safety check, and the staff were totally friendly and very helpful.

I've had this bike rack for about... 5 months. Never managed to put it on my bike, and then I lost the hardware.

Bikestation put on the rack, adjusted my rear brake, and trued my rear wheel in about an hour. Reasonably priced and it's super nice to know that my bike's in good shape again!

I'm writing this review on Marco's behalf, even if he doesn't know I'm doing it.  He loves the Bikestation, especially since it is DIRECTLY in front of his office.  Even though he could park his bike inside his work, he likes to go visit with the dudes every day before and after work, and they do the best fix-it jobs ever.  His bike looks like new.

One small drawback...it would be nice if they were open just a bit later, though not so nice for the employees.  :)

How can this be any less than a 5 star review?  It can't.

Hubby's chain was having issues and constantly falling off.  After close inspection we find that one of the links is actually broken on one side.  It's Saturday at 4 and we'd love to be able to ride the bike the rest of the weekend.  We peddle (slowly, due to chain) on over to Bikestation.  There's a short wait and then the guy (Jason, I think) asks what's up, and then begins on the bike.  He tells us the chain will be $9 "Is that OK?".  He thought he could just use a link from another for free but realizes he has to charge us.  He seems so concerned, it's just so refreshing.

Chain replaced, plus a bottle water, $11 total.  What a great service.  We tried to tip but they couldn't add it to Visa so he just asked that we come back AND WE WILL!!

Highly recommended.

So glad I found this! What a great great thing to have!

Went in today while I was out and about. Told the guys my 'symptoms' and they fixed my little mess of a bike. Didn't charge me anything although I felt pretty bad leaving without having to pay a cent. Where's the tip jar guys?!

Wow.

Yesterday was my first experience at Bikestation, and I don't ever want to go anywhere else for parts or service. I came in to see if anything could be done about my new (old) Univega. I bought my first bike new from Jax and had a horrible experience there, so I looked up a good bike shop in Long Beach I could go to.

This place sounded perfect, but I knew from Yelp people had been a teeny bit disappointed because of their high expectations, so I kept my feelings neutral. I came in during the early afternoon, and there was one other guy in there working on his bike. The guy behind the desk, Dominic, came out and I explained to him the issue with my brakes.

He tried a few different things to fix them. He even replaced the brake cables, which were rusting up, and took quite a bit of time. It turns out the problem was from the bike being in storage too long, which he found out after opening a new bottle of oil and liberally lubricating the levers. Then without asking he started testing and adjusting the derailleurs and finished up by helping fit the bike for me! I have a perfectly fitting little road bike now that brakes like new. I couldn't have been happier. We got to chat a little too, and he seemed like a really good guy.

Dominic pretty much gave me an hour of exclusive attention, because I came at a perfect time when it was pretty empty. Later I returned to get something else, around 5:30, and it was packed from all the people coming back from work to pick up their bikes. I also got a spare tube and a pair of tubes for my old bike. I ended up paying only twenty dollars! I can only imagine how much I would have paid for labor and attitude if I had gone to some other "high-end" bike shop. I felt so grateful that I really wanted to give more. When I asked if I could contribute anything he just smiled and told me to tell my friends. This is one of the best ways I can think to repay that great institution. SUPPORT BIKESTATION!

A really nice man gave me free air because my tire was low here, and he told me about routs I could pedal and encounter fewer cars, and fewer tailpipes making me cough as I try to get healthy.  He handed me a flier that told about all the services members get, with no  pressure, for me to read later, none of the "SPECIAL OFFER ACT NOW!!!"  silliness.  They evidently don't' work on commission.

Unfortunately they'll be moving soon because the city is building a year round outdoor ice rink at BikeStation's current location.  He swears he's not joking.  No parking downtown, Pine and the new unimproved Pike are half empty and the city is spending my tax money building an outdoor ice skating rink???  That's got to be a bad joke.

Look for Bike Station when they move, they can also sell you the registration for bikes that the Fire Dept only down on weekend mornings.

My roommate and I needed to re-install our forks and headsets one day.  We headed downtown to Bikestation, who let us come in right away and use their workstands, tools, and brains to do so.  At no charge!  What?  And it gets better-- THEY HAVE A COUCH.  AND FOOD.

Its places like this that show me there is still good in the world.   A nonprofit bikeshop!

A bike shop that happily sends you elsewhere if they don't have a part

A bike shop that happily will help you repair your bike at no cost!

Or just as happily will fix it for you if you don't have time. At a reasonable cost.

Storage to leave your bike for a while if you need to.  Then there are all the membership benefits.

I went in and asked: "can you help me fix my bike?"
Said Dominic the Manager:  "sure"
Then he helped me replace all the cables, change out the lower bracket and the cassette.  I got to do all the work, he just pointed and gave directions (and helped once in a while) I didn't even know what a cassette was when I walked in.  Cost to me for instruction and oversight: FREE!  Now if only they made a bike station for my car.

Bike Station: It makes me smile inside.

Went to Bike station today, they are awesome!  I walked in, well rode in, and said, "I think I need a tune up."  They checked it out and said, "nope, just have to adjust a few things." How cool is that? They could have totally charged me for a tune up and I would have had no idea...

They kept my bike, I went and got a coffee at Starbucks across the street and had my bike back 30 minutes later. Awesome.

The ride home was great, my bike rides brilliantly. Go to bikestation, it's totally worth it.

These dudes are super nice.
They won't destroy your bike the way Jax will and they won't try to rip you off the way every other bike shop will.
What more could you ask for?

I wouldn't come here to buy a new bike, but for repairs they seem pretty rad.

A hidden gem if you are a self service kind of person. I stopped in becuase I heard that that LB has a 300 dollar fine if you ride your bike after dark without a front and rear light! Ouch! I went in bought the lights started putting them on my bike and lost a nut in the process, they just gave me another. Then I asked them realine my front tire and handlebars. No problem they were done in a matter of minutes. When I asked how much..no charge? Right On! I asked if they were a Nonprofit since I saw a comment about that on here and was told "Kinda". So I'm not sure what that means but I will definantly go back.

For some reason there's three possible listings for bike station but since there's already two reviews I'll post here.

Always stored my bike at bike station when I went to the farmers market on fridays cause it's faster and safer than locking my bike up (and it's free).  More recently I've found they have good prices on the few items they do keep in stock and they also have a couple bike stands and a set of tools that they let people use to fix their bikes!  I'd thought about heading out to othe bike kitchen in l.a. to work on my bike but we've got something just as good here in long beach.  The guys that work here seem friendly enough without intrusively watching over everything you do and  they play good music too.   L.B. bike oasis.

More praise with me lol. The first time I went in to get a new tube and get it installed. This past time I went to get my derailleur adjusted and a new lining for my tire. The guy was working on the wheel for about 20 minutes (not because he was slow, but because he did a lot of shit). Then I asked how much, he said, "well, a dollar for the liner, and that's about it". So it was free to get my wheel adjusted and everything. That's pretty nice. Plus, the people that work there know what they are talking about! I asked the people at Jones in belmont shore about a light recommendation. They said, "ya, that's a good one"... me: "really?"... them: "ya, ok". They could care less.

me and my friend decided to finally go bike riding together today. the original plan was to ride down pch and the coast to seal beach or so.

that didnt quite happen. she thought her tires seemed flat but she wasnt sure.

i read about this place on yelp, and so i decied it would probably be a good idea for us to go get our bikes checked out there before riding far away.

we probably seemed like complete bike bimbos but the guys were cool and filled our tires with air. i bought a mini pump that can be screwed onto your bike which is just absolutley splendid. the worker screwed it on my bike for me. awesome.

thanks guys.

i have been wanting to visit bikestation for a while now... and as you might imagine i had high hopes... but i had no idea how awesome it would be! i bought my bike last year at jax bicycles and they said to bring it in after a while so they could adjust the brakes. after riding every day for a couple of months i took it in... where my request for them to adjust the brakes met with an empty stare. the guy threw it on the rack, spun through the gears and said it was fine. he treated me like i was some sort of gigantic ass for wasting his time. after that experience i never bothered to go back.

I was afraid of riding my bike because i knew there was something wrong with the brakes... however, after i moved down the street from bikestation i took it down to have it looked at. within five minutes the gentleman who worked there let me know that it is normally $7 to adjust brakes but that he would not charge me anything because it was an easy job. all he had to do was tighten the cables.

when it came down to it, i was helped by a guy who knew what he was doing and just wanted me to be able to get on my bike and enjoy my ride without any problems. he could have easily charged me for this or that, but he was nothing but helpful and honest.

thanks to bikestation i was able to take a great ride down the long beach bike path. even if you do not live in long beach, believe me it is worth the trip!
