Great beer and great food! This used to be my absolute favorite place to grab a beer until they started closing earlier. It's not a bar, but I'd still rather go there on a Friday night and shoot the shit with the local beer nerds than go to some loud place with crappier beer. Unfortunately, times have forced them to close after the dinner rush instead of midnight. The food is still great, and while the tap selection isn't huge, it's the best in the Edwardsville area by far. The owner, and the bartenders really know their beer. The owner has even collaborated with Schlafly to create a few brews!

I think I got a bad representation of Bigelo's today... my visit was A-OK but judging from the comments I heard from friends beforehand, it should have been much better.
My roommate from when I used to live in Chicago was in town (her family lives in Edwardsville) so we met at Bigelo's for lunch. I had never actually been to EVille until then, and I was so impressed by their adorable Main Street! I saw a super cool wine bar down the street that I can't wait to try, too. There was tons of parking (no meters, nice!) so I just had a quick 30 second walk to the place.
Inside, it's cute... no real rhyme to the rhythm, but it screams local business and has tables scattered throughout. It wasn't too busy during lunch so we grabbed a spot right away... the server was really sweet and attentive, and first up was coffee. It was some of the best coffee I've had in a long time... no cream or sugar needed. Nice surprise!
Here's where the so-so stuff started to happen. Our waitress told us that their salad cooler was broken so we couldn't order anything that was served cold... which was disappointing since I wanted a salad, and the cold sandwiches were also no longer an option. Sad!
I decided on the hot veggie sandwich with a side of mixed vegetables. When the sandwich came out, it didn't look all that appetizing... it was white bread topped with mushrooms, zucchini, spinach, and a few other things, and had an avocado spread kind of squirted out all over the top of it. The bread was way too much compared to the amount of vegetables, but it was alright. I really hate to say this, but then... I pulled a long hair out of one of the sandwich halves. It just made my stomach turn. I still ate the other half (with caution) but it just kind of ruined the meal. The vegetables on the side were A-OK but not seasoned very well.
From what I hear from people in that area, Bigelo's has a lot to offer. I would love to come back and try dinner and their awesome beer selection. Plus, I'm absolutely certain you can't find a hair in beer! -

When: February 13
Why: Valentine Beer Dinner
Gotta love this place! We've been to four of their beer dinners, and have never been disappointed. The staff is always witty and the food that they pair with each brew is creative and original. Pairing a beer with food, I think is more of a challenge then do the pairing with wine.
This dinner featured Goose Island Brewery, this is what we experienced:
1. Brie & Mushroom Quesadilla with Pear Chutney
Beer - Sophie
2. Belgian Beef & Onion Stew
Beer - Matilda
3. Curried Lamb Meatballs over Thai Risotto
Beer - Pere Jacques
4. Dessert ......it was by Angela (she always does a good job)
Beer - Forgot to write it down, sorry. It was good.
A representative from the brewery that is being featured, talks about each beer while it is being served. You get to hear history and fun stories that you'd never know from just buying it at your local grocer or booze joint.
The glasses may be sample glasses, but they keep filling them through out the tasting. So you get plenty.
My metro-east family dines here frequently, and seeing the sampling of foods they create at these beer dinners I can see why.
The next beer dinner is April 3rd and this time it is going to be Mark the owners favorite beers and not a specific brewery. We'll be there at our usual table, sipping and tasting.
Heads Up: These dinners sell out fast. -

Last night we made the trek to Edwardsville from North County to check out Bigelo's Bistro. The restaurant was easy to find on Main and had tons of parking in the back.
The restaurant was completely full and since there was no hostess stand, it was a little confusing trying to figure out how to get a table. Do we seat ourselves? Is someone going to greet us? While we tried to figure this out, a bunch of the patrons gave us weird looks. We made our way through the maze of tables and got back to the bar where we found out that we could put our name in with him.
The wait was only about 15 minutes and we were seated at our table. I ordered a house salad, the BBQ chicken pasta, and couple Boulevard Wheats. The salad was good, but could have used a little more dressing. The BBQ pasta was a unique creation and tasted good.
Jeremy ordered the same pasta, but got the broccoli cheese soup. He said it had a strong flavor of green pepper and didn't care for it He also decided to try the carrot cake. He said it was pretty bland. It had whipped cream on the side so I decided to taste it. It was Cool Whip (or some other non-dairy whipped topping), not cool.
The bartender and our waitress were friendly and quick.
I think this is a great place for locals. If we lived nearby, we would probably visit frequently, but it is not worth the drive for us. -

I've been there many times and have never been disappointed with the food. Good beer selection and half price bottles of wine T-R. The spinach salad is the best you'll have. Also tasty sandwiches and pasta dishes.
Service isn't always the best but never terrible. It's seat yourself and I've never been there during a mealtime when they weren't busy. -

One thing I've learned is that when it comes to choosing a place to eat in an unfamiliar area, it's best to go where every table is full. I live next door to Bigelo's and it seems that every lunch and evening there are plenty of people dining.
It is the happy medium in downtown Edwardsville. If you don't want to eat the trash they serve at Laurie's or Fiona's, or overpay at Fond or Erato, then be reasonable and eat at Bigelo's. -

Just ate there a few days ago. I usually get the King of Clubs with the 5-cheese blend instead of swiss, and it did not disappoint. Every now and then there might be some inconsistency with Bigelo's, but it's never been something too concerning. I really do enjoy the atmosphere, the wait staff, and the food and beer selection. Keep it up Bigelo's! The King of Clubs is a magical sandwich and, in my opinion, the best sandwich in Edwardsville.

Great local establishment with a expansive beer and wine selection as well as menu. I really enjoy the simple meal of their three cheese grilled cheese sandwich with their tomato basil soup on a chilly day. Other items include sandwiches, BBQ, personal pizzas and some unique pastas.

Lame, smelly, spendy, go to Eratos down the street. Way better

Bigelo's has a good selection of sandwiches, salads, pastas, pizzas, meat entrees, beer, and wine.
Near the corner of Main and Hillsboro, enter from the east "back" side, where there's plenty of parking.
If you're visiting for the first time, try a sandwich with sweet potato chips, cut and fried on site.
This time, I sampled a 7-inch Greek pizza, with a house salad, and 23-oz. Blue Moon beer (with an orange wedge, of course).
P.S.: If you're not sure whether you might like a particular draught beer, ask for a sample, and the bartender will gladly accommodate your request. -

Bigelo's is the definition of classy casual. Right in downtown Edwardsville, they have great soups, salads, pastas, and pizzas. I recommend this spot for lunch with friends. Bigeo's is like a much, much better version of Panera.

Wonderful food and staff! This place is unpretentiously cutting edge, especially for the Il. side! I have now been to two of their Beer Dinners. The food both times was paired with unique beers beautifully , no small talent. Informative and fun time, great value at $40.00!!

You have to try the Chicken St. Thomas here! Don't even think about anything else but that. I am telling you it is that delicious, I am literally addicted to it. I came to this place when I moved to Edwardsville and at first I was like... "plastic plates... for a $14-15 entree"... I don't think so... till I tried the food and it was so delicious, they can afford to serve it on a pink plastic plate and get away with it. It's a rather expensive place overall, but it is so tasty. I am taking one point away for the plastic plates and cups. Staff is always super friendly, you have to pay at the bar, servers don't take your money... so that's a hassle, but overall it's a nice place and it's always relatively busy compared to other places in the area.

Good place to eat. Nice sandwiches and pasta. Look for the pasta night specials and drink specials (sometimes you can get a bottle of wine for half price. If you order the salad, you may consider asking them to leave off the bread crumbs. And I mean CRUMBS, not croutons. They are ground so fine it makes for a very grainy, gritty, salad. Otherwise, food is good, prices fair.

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Edwardsville, great sandwiches (try the Bigelo!) interesting choices for sides (sweet potato chips are to die for, and corn on the cob is always good) but the best part is the beer selection! They have the best selection of craft and microbrews this side of St. Louis and sometimes have things that are nearly impossible to find elsewhere.
They rotate through beers at a pretty good pace, having several new ones each time I'm there. I've seen such hard to find brews as Three Floyds Alpha King and Founder's Red IPA.
When people come to visit this is usually where I take them! -

Whenever I visit my good friend Tricia, we usually eat somewhere and it usually ends up being Bigelow's Bistro. She introduced me to this place, tucked away on historic main street in Edwardsville about a year ago and since then I think she and I have tried just about everything on the menu. In truth, we just like to hang out there. Bigelow's is warm and relaxing, the staff is super friendly, and they always have great specials on food and drinks. And by drinks, I mean adult beverages as Bigelow's has a fully stocked bar. Edwardsville is kind of a college town, and you may be annoyed by a younger clientele here, but most of the youngsters stay away as this is moderately priced. I really enjoy their sandwiches (get the sweet potato chips!) and their garlic bread with tomatoes is really tasty.

I've been here with my family on several occasions, and have always been pleased. All of the dishes I have tried have been very good, and there's a decent selection of beer both bottled and on tap.

Bigelow's is great! Our family has been there about a hundred times, and it has always been delicious. We sometimes have several children with us, and though it's crowded at lunch time, they cheerfully make it work for us. This we very much appreciate. The kids adore the cheesy noodles, and I am happy there's something they can eat that isn't deep-fried like typical kid fare (though they also have typical kid fare like mini corndogs--gross--and I could wish for more actual food items on the kids' menu...like maybe a small pulled pork sandwich?). Family favorites are the house salad (I actually like the bread crumbs, and the dressing is addictive), the pulled pork sandwich, and yes, of course, the absolutely delicious sweet potato chips, made on the spot. Service is always pleasant and skillful. The kids like to drink cranberry or pineapple juices from the bar, which is also kind of amusing. (Oh--I'm going to go with the five stars because it does reflect the indoor experience, but I will also warn you not to sit outside. The patio outside has a strong smell of garbage sometimes. Regrettably close to the dumpsters, I guess. FYI.)
