Review Highlights
Pretty expensive, but totally worth it ($80-something for two of us). We went for my husband's birthday, so it's definitely a "special occasion" type of place.
The salmon/crab cake appetizer was probably the best damn crab cake I've ever experienced. Utterly delicious! I had the Roasted Pork Sauerbraten with braised purple cabbage, buttermilk mash. Basically (in English), pulled pork with cabbage and mashed potatoes. I thought I died and went to heaven. My husband had the Grilled New York Steak with pommes frites and peppercorn sauce au poivre (steak and french fries). I didn't try it, but he was really impressed.
View was great, service was great. Kinda loud 'cause there was some kind of party going on near the bar, but that's okay. I'd definitely go back. Everything was so flavorful!
Check out the pictures I posted.
great views but thats about it.....snobby staff and over-priced, oh did i mention SNOOTY!!! go for the views but leave for the food.

This is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. Great food, service and atmosphere all are super. A couple of years ago the menu was stale, but now the menu is fresh and really great.
Love this place. Good food and service is hard to find. The view is amazing. Only downfall is I had a large party here, and was a bit disappointed, several items had to be sent back , and the the staff was somewhat confused. Small group = must go, over 6 may want to look elsewhere.
AMAZING restaurant!
It had beautiful panoramic view of Lake Tahoe and the food is amazing! My boyfriend and I went there for Valentine's Day for their special menu and it was so good! $65 per person for a 4-course meal. Soft-shelled crab to start, a King Crab salad, then my boyfriend had the steak while I had the prawns and lobster risotto, and finishing with a delicious set of desserts. I was definitely satisfied. Our waiter was very attentive and nice to talk to.
Although it would be a little pricey to go back to eat any other time, I would definitely go back to try out their normal menu.
Just ate here with friends...don't know why stayed away, I live close to this place. Really good food, a bit pricey but worth the value.
Great place to take a date (or your spouse).
Wooded view with Lake behind. Very friendly servers.
You will love this place.
I ran into a couple that was from my hometown in Texas and we sat together and made new friends at this place.
My husband and I went on a date night while we were last in Incline. It was snowing so we did not get to see the lake, which is supposed to be amazing from the restaurant. The evening started beautifully with the bartender making us some special drinks - I had a fancy margarita of some sort that was delicious. We both really enjoyed our meals although I have to warn about the lamb shank. It is enormous, almost too much so. I would have prefered to have it cut into pieces because it was so big it was a little awkard to eat. That said, it was delicious. The service was fantastic and the ambiance was tranquil, but relaxed. This may be my new favorite restaurant in Tahoe.
I don't think I've ever had a better experience in a restaurant. Ever.
We decided to celebrate his birthday a few days early and started in the hotel room. Two glasses of champagne later, I was on Yelp looking for a restaurant and behold! Big Water Grille. Reservations at 8:45 and we arrived 15 minutes early.
Wait...what?! 15 MINUTES EARLY!? How the fuck did that happen!? Oh my goodness. Sorry--anyone who knows, we're always late to everything, so let me dwell on that for a second.
From the moment we arrived until we left, everyone who worked there made sure that we were taken care of. The hostess informed us that the people at our table weren't yet finished, so she would set up one at an equally beautiful view of the trees over Lake Tahoe. Of course, everything was pitch black but the window provided for endless nature imaginations.
We started with a glass of a favourite Chard--impressive wine list! They were off to a good start. We perused the menu and spoke to our waiter, who was incredibly knowledgable and sweet. He explained the dishes at length, included some that weren't on the menu, and we were so enamoured by the possibilities we ended up ordering 5 different appetizers and sharing them.
The presentation of the food was outstanding. The platters themselves were fit perfectly for the dishes served! Let me break down the dining experience by dish:
1. We started with fresh, hot sliced baguette with sea salt butter. Too salty (the butter), but still delicious. In preparation for the rest of the meal, we only ate one piece each.
2. Then came our sashimi and sea scallops. The ahi tuna belly sashimi wasn't on the dinner menu--it was one of the bar menu items Eric (our waiter) told us about. He came by and dropped off a steak knife each and chopsticks as well as individual plates for us. The tuna was unbelievable. It came with wild cilantro, wasabi oil and a rice stick salad. It was SO good, in fact, that halfway through our third bite we decided to order it again.
While the scallops were delicious, they just aren't for my taste. They were on a bed of textured semi-pureed Jerusalem artichoke. However, I am glad that for my first time eating them, they were done very, very well.
3. Eric cleared our table and refilled our glasses. He even took the knives to replace them with new ones! Then came the tomato bisque, mashed potatoes, and Roasted Medjool Date and Goat Cheese Tart. The bisque was amazing; creamy but not cream based. It was seasoned to perfection--which is hard to do. Even Bistro Jeanty couldn't compare to their bisque here.
The real excitment of our meal (to me) was the date and goat cheese tart. I have never tasted anything so wonderful! The dates were ripe and flavourful, the goat cheese was fresh and melted in your mouth and the small pastry crust that held the dish together was light, fluffy, and melted with the goat cheese. There was a pomegranate syrup drizzled over the top and finished with a small bed of arugula. The entire time I was eating this I had a smile on my face. When everything comes together so well, it's hard to focus because you're just so happy.
4. After the second sashimi course, we ordered dessert and espresso with grappa (sounds like someone doesn't want Jaime to remember the night?). I can't pass up dessert that says "Chocolate 4 Ways". It had a petite orange water bundt cake--moist and had an explosion of flavor. The minted cocoa ice milk tasted JUST like ice cream, and was my favourite of the 4. The pistachio-pomegranate fudge was perfectly textured and had an interested taste, but he stole a few bites of it so it MUST be good. The forth and final part of the dish was a Madras Cinnamon Pot de Creme. By this time I was so full from everything else that I didn't eat much of it, but the cinnamon didn't overpower the chocolate and was quite good.
Eric happily described each dish's ingredients as they would come out, and the table was scrapped and our water glasses always full. He was there, without being *there*. Those are the best kind of waiters, because they really know what their doing. I hope you're reading this--you're a wonderful waiter!!
By the time we left, we were the last ones in the restaurant. There was no rush, no hurry. As we walked out we were thanked and "Have a good night!"-ed by almost all the staff who was out on the floor.
If you want to go to Tahoe/Incline/Kings Beach/anywhere in that VICINITY, you owe yourself to have dinner here. Best service, awesome food, perfect romantic atmosphere, you really can't get any better than that.
Amazing place to dine. It's in a very nice secluded location just above the lake and surrounded by a forest. The dining area has a near panoramic view of the lake, be sure to reserve a table with a view. The food is excellent, some of the best sea food I have ever had. The restaurant also has some of the best service and they really know their wine.
I would suggest having a few drinks out on the patio before your meal. This place was definitely worth the half hour drive from Reno.
Just got back from appetizers and drinks at this fun place. We started out on the deck for the wooded view with peeks at the lake. really nice, Grant was great about turning on the heater. when my date found it tooooo cold, Grant cheerfully moved us inside. This place is under appreciated, the appetizers were $6 and if you have been in Tahoe area lately, you know that is a bargain! There were about 7 choices, the two we ordered were generously sized and presentation was great. Given how cold we were in May, I ordered an Irish coffee and they really got it was all about the whip cream and no sugar. Delicious. Have to say that Grant was half the fun, he was the kind of bartender you love to find, had fun with me on the orders--I was full of questions. Laughed when I guarded my Irish coffee for the last sips. We will adventure for dinner now that we have seen the reviews here.
Good food. Small portions of seafood. Waitress mentioned specials but doesn't mention the cost which I find presumptuous. Good wine list but limited by-the-glass selection. Good view. Nice decore. Wife had excellent pork shoulder. I'd go there again but I'd also consider looking elsewhere to try something else.
Top of the line when it comes to fine dining. Incredible service with a staff that really knows the menu and wine list, great views, very interesting menu selections to choose from, great dessert and coffee afterwards, this place is a gem. The presentation is full of delicate and rich tastes and the enteees our group ordered were far beyond average in quality. This place is of course up there in price and is expected to be being the location. But for a once in a while treat, you can't beat it.
this place has got to be as good as it gets..seriously! the food here is absolutely to die for, service is friendly, prompt and professional. THe menu here changes seasonally.. to start we had the Chilled Maine Lobster du Pays with Sweet Corn, Baby Heirloom Tomatoes,Fennel, honeydew consumme and the duck terrine with truffle oil, pistachios and a little frisee salad with pickled onions. so delicious. For entrees we had the braised short ribs and thresher shark with lobster risotto. Our server was brianne, very professional and friendly. the big water grille has to be the best restaurant in tahoe great for get togethers, and celebrations in a romantic setting.
Enjoying my summer vacation...with travel and great food. Last night, I enjoyed Big Water Grille~ just breathtaking views of Lake. Get the shortribs with butternut squash...enough for two!
Hi, my name is Kosuke I. and I am a food snob, and I vow not to change my ways. I sin well and I am good at it.
So it's with a bit of trepidation that I venture out into the hinterlands of our fine country--culinary sinning out here is usually of the sort which you regret...cheap, tawdry affairs that leave you sick to the pit of your stomach with disgust at what you've just consumed. The internal smirk, plastered on my palate since the hotel concierge waxed poetic about this place (what do, after all, folk in incline village know about good food? well..apparently quite a bit...) was soon wiped away. Stunning view aside (it was snowing and the lake looked beautiful), the food piques the interest (with a decided bent towards serving very well crafted game) and the service is almost ingratiatingly nice and surprisingly professional. Duck confit salad with dried cherries and chicories, anyone? damn good, and loaded with a plethora of duck chunks. Molasses glazed porkchop done perfectly medium rare? delectable, even if the gingerbread bread pudding was a touch too sweet with everything around it. Braised buffalo shortribs with butternut squash puree and wilted arugula? spot on and fork tender although it was so flavorful from the braise that they could have been beef instead of buffalo...a small criticism. On miss was the salmon-cake appetizer which was good, but failed to be epic along the same lines as everything else. Excellent wine list, if uber california centric, but definitely some goodies to be found. I pulled the trigger on some 03 goldeneye which was predictably overblown and yummy.
The portions here are enormous (as are the portions everywhere around here it seems), requiring doggie bags for all save the the morbidly large (of which there were a couple in the dining room), but the leftovers make for a great pre-skiing snack...much recommended.
Great experience. Food was good, portions are healthy. Beautiful view of Lake Tahoe and away from the bustling strip mall type resturants in the area. Nice getaway!
We came for the Valentine's Day special menu.. which was priced at $65 per person . The presentation was nice , but honestly the food wasn't anything special. The only thing that was really good was the Steak .. but the pre-fix menu was strange .. it was asian/american/seafood ..it seemed to be lacking a common thread , and for the price I was expecting alot better tasting food.My husband said the Martini's were excellent.
Wow! This place is a skirt flipper. Beautiful building and views and great food. The soft shell crab, to die for, and the fish specials with the crab risotto also great. Anyone visiting Tahoe should definitely give it a test drive. Make reservations or eat in the bar, either way it is a most enjoyable experience.
