Big Oak Bar-B-Que
1 review for Big Oak Bar-B-Que
Update: Sadly, Big Oak has closed. We went the last day they were open and ordered a TON of turkey, brisket, and sausage to savor slowly until it got funky. You got to respect anyone with the balls to open their own restaurant, tho, and I wish the owners success and happiness in their new ventures.

The other BBQ joint on Main Street in Buda is the Bill Miller BBQ Franchise. The two restaurants are worlds and worlds apart. Bill Miller has the air of a fast food restaurant run from a 3-ring binder in the back office. Big Oak has the air of a labor of love.
The space was a family hardware store that's been in Buda a long time. With the commercialization of Buda and the arrival of the big box stores like Home Depot, the owners wisely decided to focus on their true passion: barbecue, and converted the hardware store into a BBQ joint.
There's always a really friendly *real* person behind the counter - and the service is quick.
I have to say that is is my favorite brisket in the greater austin area. So far, my cuts have been lean, succulent, and tasty.
The sauce is a "sweet" sauce in the tradition of the one at Salt Lick. I'm not so fond of sauces, but the meat is so good, it doesn't really need sauce at all.
I've been back to Big Oak twice in a week!
