Ummm yha good stuff, I have been lamenting the loss of a bike-able place to get a beer and food in PB since the old Liars club relocated to Alpine, and well I live just a couple blocks from the "big kahunas" so I thought i'd give it a try. Good stuff, they have a good selection of beers on tap and the food was really good. the girls working where really nice. It kinda feels like a place in Isla Vista, but thats OK, i miss my collage days.

Whoa!! I was very surprised with this place. We only went there by accident. I'd heard Rocky's had a great burger, but the joint was over packed with frat kids, not really the environment i was in the mood for. So we walked over to Big Kahunas. The menu was kind of all over the place, Hawaiian, pizza, burgers, so I wasn't really expecting much.
We started with the coconut shrimp appetizer. Very good, the sweet and spicy dip was great with it as well. I got the pulled pork sandwich. It was tender and delicious. All the sandwiches came on this really delicious bun, not your regular run-of-the-mill white bread bun. The burgers were very tasty too. I think i may have found the best fries in town too. They are soo good, thick cut and fried to a nice golden brown!
The portions were Huge here, i could barely eat half my sandwich.
Service was excellent too. Very surprised and pleased with this place!!

** I'm a little confused why this place is labeled in the pizza category though, i thought i was a hawaiian joint??

So when I lived in PB (like forever) my neighbor and I used to hit up this little-known spot tucked away quietly on Ingraham and far from the hussle and bussle of Grand/Garnet Ave nearly once a week or so......

My neighbor would always get a personal pizza or a hawaiian plate with the mac salad and sticky rice....looked okay but I always enjoyed the Mahi Mahi burger.....FABULOUS!!!  (Had a burger from here too and it was pretty damn good as well!)....they use these sweet hawaian bread rolls that are very very yummy.....and be sure to splurge and order a basket of the french fries......theyre pretty damn good as well.

I think they also have some crazy all you can eat week-night specials....never participated but really inexpensive.

Oh and the beer....yes. drink beer!

I love to order the kahlua pork and cabbage or the terriyaki chicken and take it home.  I can eat on the leftovers for two days and love every minute of it.

Umm...........this place was a block from our apartment in PB and on mornings where we didn't want to drive or go far, and were too hungover to think about anything else, we just walked across the street to this place.

The waitress, knew my BF and his roommates (they have been going alot longer than me) and always seated us in the back outside patio so that we could be rowdy and they could have their cigarettes.......

The first thing we usually order: the Big Kahuna Balls- round garlic bread balls baked in butter and topped with cheese--perfect hangover food.  You could eat the whole thing really, but then would worry about a heart attack all day.  We usually get one order and each have a few...........YUMMMMY.

I usually get a breakfast plate- where else can I get white rice, eggs, and Portuguese sausage??  or the Hawaiian plate which is also super yummy.......some meat ( you pick--pork, sausage, chicken, beef, mahi mahi, or hamburger) with rice, macaroni salad-- True Hawaiian style............  Either way I am never let down.

My BF usually gets one of the pizzas and he's never complained.  Lindsay gets a gianormous salad and Jensen gets random stuff, we all are happily satisfied though at the end of the meal.  They also serve mimosas and have a decent happy hour special on weekdays which we have also taken advantage of.

All in all, a fun place to go and when we lived at Bay Pointe, and it was also convenient!

Ugh.  The food was mediocre at best.  Ordered the combo plate, but the teriyaki sauce was like molasses and way too salty.  At least the macaroni was decent.  Medium priced.

It was my first time in this part of SD and I immediately fell head over heels.  Pacific Beach has a the old charm that I really like in  a neighborhood.

We were in town for the day and I read about this place on a food blog so there we were at Big Kahuna's.  It's a cute place, got a real local feel.  Our SD-inhabiting kama'aina was very disappointed that he missed out on the loco moco (served only till 2:30) so he had to choose another plate lunch.

Kama'aina's order:
Half-n-half (combo) of pork w/cabbage and hamburger steak.
Review:
He felt the pork was a bit on the dry side, the hamburger steak more like meatloaf, and the mac salad in need of  a little more mayo.

The  Mista's Order:
personal-size BBQ chicken pizza
Review:
He thought there was too much sauce.  I thought it was bad actually.  Dough was undercooked...perhaps the abundance of sauce didn't allow for the dough to cook completely.

My Order:
Half-n-half of teri ckn and fish (i forget how it was prepared).
Review:
The chicken was good; tender.  The boys liked it a lot also.  the fish....it doesn't stand out in my mind so i guess it was okay at the least.  I had a taste of our friend's choices and while i agree it was somewhat dry I actually liked the pork the way it was and same for the mac salad (less mayo, less fat, ya?).

OVERALL: The portions are a good size w/just the right amount of rice.  And I know I gave it 4 stars but partials aren't allowed so for this first trip, my first impression rating is 3.5 stars (price for the taste wasn't quite justified).  i would probably eat here again to try a few more of their items if we were around the 'hood.

Are you looking for the best burger in San Diego? This is the place to get it. I eat here one to two times per week and I am NEVER dissapointed. It's ironic that this place is right around the corner from one of the most over-hyped burger joints in San Diego. The "Big Kahuna Burger" (mentioned in the film "Pulp Fiction") consists of a delicious Portugese sweet bread roll, 1/2lb beef patty, perfect balance of condiments, red onion, tomato, and cabbage. You can take a friend here and split the burger ($6.99) and add a small order of steak fries ($1.79) and be out the door with two waters for ~$9 total (without tip). How many places can you do that in San Diego - not many. The waiter that is usually there is the owner of the place and is a really nice guy. I've also had (and recommend) the Surfer's Sub, the Big Kahuna Balls, and the Teriyaki burger.

You'd be hard pressed to find something on the menu you didn't like. This is my favorite restaurant in San Diego.

This place isn't called "Big Kahunas Pizza" it's called "Big Kahunas" btw.

I was wary of Hawaiian food here at first (not that I've ever had Hawaiian food), but it turned out to be really good. They give HUGE quantities, but the prices are pretty cheap and the food was good. I'm no Hawaiian food connoisseur, but I was a fan.

They also have burgers, pizza and a bar. Atmosphere was what you'd expect in PB.
