Closed until further notice, according to the website :-(

I frequented this place years ago...before Gateway opened. The area was sketchier than it is today but Big City Soup was always packed. I was visiting SL in June 2009,and was sad to see that the whole building has been vacated. I wonder what happened...

I would have given more stars if it still existed! :-(

This is a great soup & sandwich joint right in the heart of downtown Salt Lake. They have several vegetarian, gluten-free and other choices. The ingredients are definitely high quality. Both the sandwiches and the soups are very good. They are a little pricey, but you do get what you pay for at Big City Soup!

I am a sucker for the little touches that make a meal more fun and here with every order of soup you get cheese (tillamook), your choice of yummy bread (sourdough is my favorite), and an Andes mint.  I know!  Who knew eating soup cold be so fun?  Oh, and the soup is amazing.  My favs include Jack's Curry, Tomato Gorgonzola, and Thai Chicken Noodle.  Not a bad way to spend 5 bucks.

The Main St branch looks closed, so I walked out to this location in the Gateway District. Lovely space, lovely staff. As for my lobster bisque, well, this isn't exactly the lobster capital of the world, but it was fine. For five bucks and change, it came with a generous chunk of fresh soft wheat focaccia, and a slice of Tillamook. I'd certainly return if I were a local.
