There are a few things I really appreciate about this comic book shop:

First off, love the location! I can't count how many times I trot down the street after a late breakfast or lunch at Hamburger Patties to pick up a copy or two on my way home.

Secondly, the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. I'm what one might call a "n00b" when it comes to comics and they've given me a host of great recommendations [Walking Dead . . . that's whats'up!] and have done so without acting like total comic book "know-it-alls."

Lastly, if you'd like to keep up with the latest issues but can't stop by every week to pick them up, give them your name and titles of the comics you read, and the staff will pull them off the shelves for you and put them on hold for you to purchase later!

Despite how small this store is, it is filled with a huge collection of comics, new and used graphic novels, as well as collectibles [Magic the Gathering cards, specialty board games, figurines, etc]. Plus they hold gaming group meetups for all you D&D fans out there.

This is by far the best comic book shop in town!

This is my favorite comic shop in Sacramento and it has mostly to do with it not being overwhelming. It's not one of those places that is a dank, bodyodored hole where grown men are hunched over and drooling over the latest issue of Powergirl -- scared when the door opens because of the two-pronged attack of somebody who knows less about comics than they do and natural light. Something I've experienced at a couple of the other shops in the midtown vicinity.

The staff knows comics, but without being pretentious. Kenny, Chris, & Tyson are all a lot of fun to talk to and have the balance of nerd and socially apt making the store is open and friendly to browsers and buyers a-like.

Big Brother mostly deals in trade paperback collections, but still carries a lot of the major labels if you have to get the single issue fix - and since the staff is incredibly friendly and approachable, if you can't find what you want - they'll order it if they don't have it, and over the months will slowly turn you into one of those "I can't wait for Wednesday" comic-aficionados before you realize what happened.

And if you're thinking - well I'll just go in an look at their prices and then order on Amazon - think again. Big Brother prices things really competitively and if you're looking for older trades - you can sometimes find them on their used wall toward the back.

Another thing I really like about the shop is how willing they are to carry a lot of harder to find titles from smaller presses and local artists. It's truly not all DC & Marvel at Big Brother, and that's really refreshing, too.

It's eclectic & eccentric and incredibly convenient if you're living in Midtown which makes it hands down my favorite shop in Sacramento.

Without a doubt, my favorite comic shop. As soon as something comes out, they've got it and plenty of it. In addition to having LOADS of single and back issues and more trades than you would expect, they have an absolutely amazing selection of used trades and other books.

Every member of the staff is super friendly and part of the fun of visiting are the great  conversations you'll have with staff and other customers. Also, each staff member has loads and loads of recommendations not to mention how well versed they are in information and lore about their titles.

What sets Big Brother apart from the rest is that they are simultaneously able to please both comic fans and games fans. Other shops I've visited make their money from Magic cards and hosting game sessions. That means that I have to wander through a crowded store full of children who stare and stare. Big Brother had the great idea of keeping a room in the back, away from the rest of the shop to host card games, thus leaving everyone happy.

There are two types of comic book store.
Some are run by arrogant pricks who expect you to make all your purchases without actually touching anything (a la The Simpsons), and others are like Big Brother.
The staff here is really friendly and interested in making sure you get what you want. Their selection is pretty impressive considering the size of the place and it feels open and accessible, not like some dudes basement. They can't carry everything but if there is something you want that they don't have they're happy to order it for you and the turn around time is quite decent.
Midtown is pretty lucky to have Big Brother, the alternative is repellent.

I do not like their new midtown location as much as the old K street location. The store is smaller, it's further away from centralized locations and they always seem to be "out for lunch" whenever I drop in after going to the bread store.

Even so, this is one of the better comic book shops in Sacramento. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and they have a great selection of "alternative" comics as well. Their used trade paperback section is expansive and I always enjoy seeing a huge section of Vertigo comics. For someone whose first exposure to comics was 100 Bullets, Sandman, Hellblazer, Strangers in Paradise and Stray Bullets, it's quite nice to find a store that doesn't cater primarily to the Spiderman/Batman/Xmen crowd.

The staff will let you browse and wander around without pressuring you to buy something or get out. There is a lot of open space and it's well let.

A friendly atmosphere and friendly people, but the old location was still better.

Big Brother Comics is a well-run store that mainly specializes in American/Western comics. They also have a very small selection of manga, major trading card games (Magic and World of Warcraft), as well as few smaller games (like Pirates).

Their back issue selection is small but they do have a used graphic novel section that I've always found some good stuff in.

They also run some Magic events at the location though I haven't played in them, so I don't know how good the support is.

I use this place as my home store and their subscription deal isn't bad and might be the best in town.

I think I've only bought stuff from here two days out of the many times I've been here. He had this sale where everything had a percentage off and I bought a short comic book box from him because that's the cheapest around ($3.75).
This is another one of the stores where you see products that you thought you were never ever see in your hands.
But the biggest downer of this place is the pricing. The prices are definitely shot up the scale for whatever reason. It could be the customer demand or the rarity of the product. But still, sometimes, I feel like I'm forced to buy things online.

Big Brother is my favorite store in Sacramento. I go here for Magic: The Gathering and board games. Kenny (the owner) and Tyson are super knowledgeable and very friendly. They host Friday Night Magic and pre-release events where about 12-16 people generally show up. A great local business worth visiting.

lovely store, friendly staff.  Nice selection of graphic novels.  Definitely good for a visit.  And yes, i only came by to check them out, and still left the store with two books.

A good place to pick up new issues.  However, their back-issue selection leaves a lot to be desired.  The staff is friendly and incredibly helpful.

This is a pretty cool comic book shop that's well-stocked with graphic novels and "alternative" comics. The staff is very open to customers and they never resemble the old Comic Book Guy stereotype.
