4 reviews for Bide-A-Wee Inn & Cottages
I chose Bide-A-Wee since Asilomar Conference Grounds was booked solid at the end of June. Chris nearly had a heart attack when I told him the room rates--jazz festival was in town--but somehow reconciled the steep price with the fact that we were going on vacation.
Wait a sec...where was the sunny remodeled cottage with the ocean view I remembered seeing on the website? Only a dimly lit room awaited us. I brought my concern to the front desk and the lady offered to check the availability of the newer-looking rooms (all 2 of them) but both were booked and so we had to settle for the dungeon. (Lesson learned: Make sure you mention "ocean view" in your reservation...and it's a partial ocean view actually.)
Location--great! Close walk to the beach. 5 minute drive toTrader Joe's, Safeway, and a sushi restaurant.
Rooms--Good amount of space. Old looking, dimly lit. Bathroom doors could use a good scrub. Eeew.
Continental Breakfast--pretty nice...sliced bread, jam, bagels with cream cheese, artificial-tasting, packaged muffins and danishes, OJ, hot chocolate, tea, coffee, fresh fruit in office all day
Kitchen--stovetop, roomy refrigerator, fully-stocked kitchen, rusty cookware and ratty cooking utensils. We reheated leftovers in the oven and cooked eggs for breakfast. Made for nice hot breakfasts and saved us some money!
Quiet and clean grounds. A little path winding around the 6 or so cottages made for many nice walks with my 1 year old.
Pet-friendly--Hmm...how did I get those bug bites on my shoulder ? :(
Free cable.
Overall, accommodations were OK. But I'll be looking into other places next time we stay in Monterey.

Run down and old, bed was as hard as a rock, I didn't sleep for more than a hour at a time during the night before I'd have to roll off the sore spot. I mostly choose it for the location, which can't be beat, but this town is nothing but hotels, you could do better by shopping around a bit. Spend a bit more and go with one of the newer hotels.
What passed for seaside charm and hominess in the 1970s is now shabby and tasteless. The place has been painted, but no amount of paint can correct for dimly lit rooms, cheap fixtures, burned-out bulbs, the smell of mold, poor amenities, and less than cordial management. Pacific Grove has too many nicer inns to justify staying in the ramshackle Bide-A-Wee.
My fiance and I stayed here this past Saturday and were quite happy with our cottage. We brought along our husky who enjoyed the spaciousness of the cottage. The beach is right across the street, but it's mainly for walking along rather than sunbathing. There are many great restaurants located nearby- we went to Passionfish which was less than 5 min away by car. Ocean View Bld is only a few minutes away and you can take this straight into Cannery Row. The cottage had a kitchenette which was cool and we would definitely consider coming back. The girl at the front desk was friendly. I think that they offer great accomodations , espeically if you have a dog.
