Terrific shop. I come to these guys for everything i can't do that they can.
A few examples:
- Custom brackets for odd-sized frames (i've had custom drilled fenders fit this way by them, as well as a rack i couldn't quite find something the right size for). Their brackets come out BEAUTIFULLY and are made not only to fit, but to last. Honestly far better than i would expect from a shop that doesn't specialize in custom fabrication. My jaw dropped the first time i saw what they can do...
- Super fast turnaround time for jobs like replacing headsets (i think they pulled a headset, installed it on another frame and swapped the race while i waited for an unexpectedly fair price).
Most other shops will give you a few days for stuff these guys are happy to do in minutes.
- Knowledgeable staff WITHOUT a bone to pick or anything to prove. This is actually a big one. I'm pretty knowledgeable about bicycles, especially the types i own. All too often i've walked into a bike shop and somehow found myself in a nerd-off with a bike tech simply because i preferred to discuss my options rather than be given one. This is incredibly annoying and ends up ruining what could honestly be a satisfying experience for a customer. Bicycle Stable's employees have never once copped a tude because i've questioned their advice; if anything, they seem to enjoy the conversation! Definitely a big plus. And please-- allow me to put emphasis on knowledgeable. Chaz (owner) really knows his stuff, new old or esoteric.
- They CARE!!! A few years ago, i was putting together a pretty specific build for my GF as a surprise. I was stuck on the brakes... wanted white calipers that weren't big and ugly without going to the powdercoater. I was pretty close to giving up when i ended up speaking to Chaz. Turns out he had a white pair of Royal Gran Compes on a bicycle at his shop. "Tell you what", he said. "If you don't find anything, give me a call. I'll work something out with you."
Lo and behold, he pulled the brakes from the bicycle-- which turned out to be HIS OWN-- and sold them to me at a fantastic price. Completely made the project.
I don't know of a single other shop that would do something like this for a customer.
These guys are really it. If you live even remotely near the area and need a shop, there's nothing to consider. In all honesty, i feel sorta lucky they're located where they are. While most of what i do to my bikes i do myself, anything i don't trust myself to do (or don't have a tool for) i happily bring to these guys. Hell, even stuff i normally do i'll bring to them. They always do it better/faster, and knowing i'm supporting a local business that deserves it makes the trip worthwhile.
Top notch shop, hands down.
I got to send some love to this place.
Which is shocking, since there's a whole saga. Let me summarize: I bought a bike via evil, awful craigslist and took it to the Bike Stable to get fixed. Bike Stable ran the code on my new, wonderful, shockingly inexpensive bike and found out it was a stolen bike and went to work reuniting my bike to its real owner post-haste. Which is exactly what I'd hope and want a shop to do. Even though it meant I was minus 1 bike. Which made me sad. And unable to write a review on the Bike Stable because I was too busy grinding my teeth as I was walking everywhere. Seriously, it was pathetic.
Then, a week later, the great owner of the Bike Stable called me, to follow up (!!!) and make sure I'd been able to get my money back from the skeeze ball bike kid (!!!!) I had renamed Punky Theiferson (I did get my monies back...but that's another story).
I was floored. I mean, really shocked that they'd bother to call. I hadn't bought a bike from them and had shown up on their doorstep with stolen property. And they called to see how my bike search was going. That same day, I went over to the Bike Stable and tried roughly 5 bikes (crazy, considering how small their shop is). The service was exceptional, their advice was first rate, and I couldn't get over the quality of their Bianchi brand bikes. So we bought one (legally, sigh). And its been fantastic.
A++ to Bike Stable. If my bike ever gets stolen, I trust they'll do what they can to get it back. And in the meantime, they're really rather helpful and great with all my rather amateur bike questions and needs.
I've been taking my bike here for a few years, and one thing I love about this shop is that I can trust their advice and workmanship. When they tell me I need a new cog, I know that I actually need it, and they're not trying to up sell me.
The staff is friendly. They get repairs done on time or ahead of schedule. Their prices are good, but they selection isn't amazing.
Still, this is always my first stop for work and parts, and I usually get everything I need here. They do good work and are honest. The labor charges are fair. These facts alone would make them five stars.
Great shop! I'm an intermediate but knowledgeable female rider and these guys treat me and my gear with respect. Great advice, friendly service, and none of that "you're a girl so you must be ignorant/a beginner" attitude I've gotten at a lot of other shops.
I was unhappy with the customer service here.
My issue was with the pedals I purchased. I picked up some MKS GR-9's and the flip tab broke off within 2 weeks. They wouldn't exchange the pedals and basically told me to fuck off. When I asked for the manufacturer phone number they told me to google it.
Service was quick, inexpensive, friendly, and very helpful.
I traveled all the way from W Philly to find a bike shop that would help me out for a reasonable price.
I went there after getting 5 flats other the period of a month. The employees were very nice, went above and beyond. He inspected the rim, found what caused the flat, and gave me some very valuable advice too.
I appreciated this, since I had been to 4 other shops before this and never got any sort of REAL help. He was honest with me, and wasn't pushing me to spend more.
The dude also shared his own biking experiences and told me his opinions on the type of gear he used.
This is a great place to get you bike serviced- I definitely reccomend it
Best bicycle shop in Philly- hands down. I have purchased 2 bikes from here in the past few months and partner has purchased one. The owner Chaz and mechanic, Montana and unreal- super nice guys- down to earth and not pretentious at all. Chaz ordered my bike for me from Bianchi- I needed a smaller than usual frame. He and Montana have spent an extensive amount of time educating my partner and I about bikes. We feel guilty even walking by another shop. Please support this local business!
