I can not believe this place is a chain and now that I do accept that fact I angirly wonder wonder why there  are none near where I live now.

This was my absolutely favorite restaurant to go to when I lived in the area.  I will plan my next road trip around this restaurant just to get my fix :)

Crab and Lobster Dip- creamy, delicious, enough for two
Fettucine with Lobster- my absolute favorite dish on the menu.  Had a slight spice to it, qite a bit of lobster for the price, and enough sauce to cover the pasta
Ziti Al Forno- Ham gives a really nice flavor to this dish, not salty
Penne Sardi- second favorite dish however sometimes the sauce can be a bit watery

You get free bread, unlimited and WOW.  the bread and "Biaggi's butter" is enough to just go for that.  There are three different types of breads and the butter is olive oil, parm cheese, and pepper- and leave it on your table so you can refill it.

Service was always very good.

Prices are fantastic- avergae around $15 and always brought home leftovers.

If you asked me on the street what I think about Biaggi's, I probably would give it three stars without thinking about it because I have had a couple good meals here.  Now that I think about it though, I can't possibly give it more than two stars because I've eaten here FIVE times, yet I only had two good meals?  I don't like those odds.

Okay, so what was my problem?  Well, for starters, the service is generally awful to the point of being non-existent.  I went there this week for lunch, and the waiter was all over us until we ordered, and after that, it would be 15-20 minutes between visits.  Forget about refills or the check.  Just getting the check and getting him to take it up and return with the credit card was a 25 minute ordeal.  Just terrible.

I have also been seated in awful locations before.  Once, half of the restaurant was empty, but we were seated next to a couple whose table was so close to our own, that we were too self-conscious to even carry on a conversation.  We could hear every word uttered at the other table.  On top of that, we were supposed to share the same bottle of olive oil with the other table (because the waiter was too lazy to get a second one?!?)  I guess he figured since we were so close that we could just reach over and grab it.  Unbelievable.  That whole experience was weird.  I can't believe I ever went back.

The food is hit and miss.  The pasta is generally pretty good.  Nothing fantastic, but no complaints either.  The sandwiches ought to be good, but I have had very bad luck with them.  The one time the bread was so hard it was inedible.  Like it was stale, and then toasted for an hour longer than it should have been.  Just rock hard.  Another time the sandwich was okay, but the bread was again harder than it should be.  A $9 sandwich ought to be awesome, and theirs fall far short of awesome.  I could have saved myself an hour and a half and ran into Penn Station for a better sandwich at the same price.

The decor is really fantastic.  The place looks great, which I guess is why they think they can charge as much as they do.  Biaggi's isn't cheap, and for that kind of money, I expect decent service and consistently good food, which is two things Biaggi's does NOT have.  Don't waste your time here.  I know I don't plan on going back.  There are too many better places to go.

Biaggi's

Biaggi's is an Italian restaurant that reminds me of Bravo, an upscale Olive Garden.  How come all these places act like olive oil on a plate w/ dry bread is so unique?

Atmosphere - Clean, bright off-yellow paint in the interior and lots of stone.  For as much stone being used in restaurants these days I need to own a quarry. Wait staff wear clean, crisp, white dress shirts and black pants.

Service - This was subpar for the price point.  The server was intense at first making several suggestions and even helped give me what I wanted as oppose to how the dish was listed on the menu.  Then she but backed off to the point that I never received a refill on my un-sweet tea.  What is up with that?  12% for you thank you very much.

Food - I ordered Farfalle Alfredo, sans the Alfredo sauce and add marinara plus a vegetable medley (Do you know how many calories and fat are in that sauce?  There is a reason why most people named Fredo are a little on the stocky side).  The dish arrived hot, but the sauce lacked flavor, the vegetables were undercooked and there was little chicken.  Disappointment.

Overall - The lack of tea refills and the subpar dish have me strongly questioning a second trip.  I may give them one more chance at dinner as it is a fancy chain that I visited before in other cities which I may have caught on an off day.

Call me a Tiramisu (Italian for "Pick me up") snob, but I know the cake should not be-literally-swimming in a sea of coffee. Nor should it leave a bitter aftertaste hours after dinner. Needless to say, this dessert is a no-go at Biaggi's.

Everything else was mediocre at best, starting with the onion infused bread, accompanied by cracked pepper and parmesan cheese mixed in olive oil. The mushrooms and brie bruschetta were the only noteworthy ones from the Bruschetta trio. The Marsala chicken needed a little bit more of a marsala kick and, honestly, I'd even go as far to say "pass" on this dish too. (Buca Di Beppo may be as Americanized as it gets for an Italian restaurant-next to Olive Garden-but it whips up a better dish, methinks.) The Chicken Piccante pizza was the highlight of the meal. A blend of four cheeses AND goat cheese? Sign me up!

Service was phenomenal and unintrusive. I would not recommend coming in when you're hungry, because you will keel over from starvation waiting for the food alone.

Seeing how this city holds a myriad of dining choices, I won't be making a second trip to Biaggi's anytime soon.

Yes, it is a chain, but no it isn't generic.

While I did find the overly elaborate nature of 'describing' the combination of olive oil, cheese, and pepper at the table as an accompaniment to bread to be hilarious and obsurd I also realize this is Toledo and the concept of something aside from a butter packet may be foreign.

Despite the fact that much of the menu was rather generic, some unique items certainly shined through in the Batalli-esque Bruschetta Trio and the well designed and delicious Butternut Squash Ravioli.  Both items were fresh, affordable, and well made with a great contrast of textures.

Less pleasing were the Capellini di Mare which, although well priced and loaded with seafood, tasted like Barilla in Prego and the Fettucini with Lobster that suffered from far too heavy a sauce and far too limp a pasta.

Desserts were spot on with an incredibly decadent Chocolate chip banana cake served with vanilla ice cream and milk chocolate sauce and Warm Apple Crostata that each rivaled desserts at far fancier restaurants in bigger cities.

Coffee was mellow yet full bodied and refilled adequately.

Certainly not "the best" Italian meal money can buy, but certainly better than Olive Garden, Carabba's, or other Italian chains.

Go for the Ravioli, Bruscetta, and Dessert and consider it $25 well spent.

Very mediocre! I thought Bravo was better. Servings are gargantuan so don't get an appetizer, you'll also get bread with olive oil and parmesan. I had veal parmesan which was just alright.

I am a fan of the shrimp and scallop canelloni, but the last few times I have been there the food has arrived late to the point that it is cold and the sauce is coagulated.  The service was horrible last time.  Frankly, I think Olive Garden is just as good.  They have the never-ending salad bowl, and the service is better.
