For you rail fans:  Get off the Gold Line at the Memorial Park station.  Go west on Holly and south on Raymond less than 2 blocks.  It's on the east side of the street.

Like the way the place is organized.  Love the choices.  Looks like I'll be getting my oils here.  Yes, it is pricey by Trader Joe's standards but no worse than the place in Temecula.  Specialty or artisan olive oils are going to cost.  Period.  I walked out with two bottles for under $40.

I was on a tight schedule so I will need to go back to check the other things like books and vinegars.  The young lady behind the counter was very sweet.  She pointed out some very good flavored oils when I told her what I was looking for.

Edit 7/16/11 - And it got better.  If you can get a taste of the Peach White Balsamic don't say I didn't warn you.  This is a vinegar that you will want to drink straight.  It has a heavenly peach flavor.

The balsamics here will have you tossing the Trader Joe's "Balsamic" (grape must flavored to resemble balsamic - sort of like Welch's bottling grape juice mixed with a touch of Everclear and calling it wine - now you know why TJ can sell it so cheap; it's cheap made).  The balsamics here are reasonably priced for the quality.  When I told a friend about the 25 Star (18 year old) she assumed the price would be about $40.  It was only $23.

Here is something handy:  When you buy oils or vinegars from the vats you get the standard 375 ml bottles.  These bottles come with a pouring top and you can bring them back for refills.  Refills are a bit cheaper than buying oil  or vinegar in a whole new bottle.

    What a selection!

Yes, premium, small batch (artisan even) foodstuffs can be expensive.  But the oil is so good!  I mean, green, thick, flavorful oil that will ruin you for the regular stuff at the supermarket.

There are actually some great values to be found at this gem of a store.  You can get "sample" size bottles of oils and vinegars.  I got a sample bottle of a 16 year old balsamic for 4 dollars.  And for you eco-friendly people, you can buy a refillable bottle which is economical as well.

This is a great place for shopping for yourself or for a gift for any person who loves good food.  Also, the owner, Crystal is very nice & extremely helpful.

If you love good olive oil or vinegar please check this place out, you will not be disappointed!

I love this place.  I love the fact that the owners are so awesome and are really knowledgeable about their products.  I love the fact that they only sell California-grown extra virgin olive oils that you can taste before you buy.  I go through a ton of olive oil so I make regular trips to this store and they frequently have new oils for me to try and have special events where you can even meet the producers!

Support this local store!  There aren't many places like it.

    Good news/ Bad News

The Good news is that the olive oils are really special, notably the garlic olive oil from the steel drum, and the smoked olive oil from the bottle.  Also, the balsamic vinegars are amazing.

Also, the Good news is that the husband/ wife team, as others have said, are incredibly gracious and generous, and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and welcoming, as if inviting you into their home.

The Bad news is simply that the prices are so high, as to make this a destination only rarely, for moi.  They do sell small sample bottles (60ml) of their own oils and vinegars, which are $4.  Likely, that is what I would buy in the future.

    Highly recommended.

If you care about your olive oil and balsamic vinegarette, this is your place!  The stuff IS pretty amazing, and I thought it was quite weird to taste olive oil.  The owners are knowledgeable and passionate about olive oil, so it's really nice to go in there.  I bought some peach vinegarette on a tour today, aged 18 years!

My friends and I visited Pasadena not too long ago. We happened to park 2 streets pass Beyond the Olive so decided to check it out before we left. The store was clean and spacious. The owner greeted us politely when we walked in. He said they had samples and we were welcome to try. He also encouraged us to ask any question. We tried a few samples and decided to pick up some dips for party later of the week. The owner saw me trying to choose which one to buy, he suggested Artichoke Lemon Asiago Pesto and Artichoke Tomato Bruschetta dips. We were gonna buy 1 but could not decide which one to buy so we bought both of them. He also suggested we mix the dips with hot pasta or on bread. We thanked him and left.
Later the week, we tried both on bread and they were amazing. Our friends had some at the party and loved them as well. Beyond the Olive is a really good place to shop for dips. I will definitely go back again.

Pricey, spendy, whatever you want to call it, but what they sell is top notch, and a little goes a long way.  Tried and bought an 18-year aged peach white balsamic that is absolutely to die for.

I recently was given a gift of some olive oil from here.  It really had good flavor.  I used it for special recipes and for making vinaigrette's.   I will defiantly check out their shop next time I go to Pasadena.  What a lovely gift!

This shop is perfection. We bought some amazing Garlic and Herb Cheese Stuffed Olives which were just wonderful. We also got some Crushed Lemon Infused Olive Oil and Sauvignon Blanc Vinegar and they are both just amazing. The shop itself is simple and just a pleasure to be in. I can't wait to go back. Thank you for having such a great business.

actually very much not what i expected. i expected a hoity toity fancy olive oil shop with people who scoff at the fact that you don't know what a first pressing oil is. i was pleasantly surprised at how much it was not!

the lady at the shop was beyond helpful, suggesting different oils for my tastes and basically suggesting that i try everything. yes, there are little cups all around the store, along with plenty of bottles that say "tester" on them. i came out of the store full of oil and vinegar in my belly.

really decent prices as well. i found a bottle of olive oil that i can't find anywhere else in los angeles for the same price the olive farm sells them for. lovely!

they specialize in california olive oils, but there are also many different vinegars (all sorts - i wasn't familiar with chardonnay vinegar until i ended up taking a bottle home with me because it was so tasty) and various food dips and marinades as well.

My introduction to Beyond the Olive was via the Melting Pot Tasting Tours.  After learning about and tasting several oils and vinegars, I knew I'd be back.  I brought my daughter wh ois a real foodie.  She loved it.  The owners Crystal and Chip are passionate about their products but better yet can explain process so the layman can understand.  i will be back and bring my friends and family.

My husband and I wandered into this wonderful shop at their grand opening and have been back at least half a dozen times since. It is my favorite place to pick up a gift for friends.

Crystal and Chip are warm and welcoming from the moment you step foot in their shop. They truly love their products and enjoy sharing their great finds.

Two of my favorites so far are:

Peach Balsamic Vinegar: I am vegetarian, but as soon as I tasted it I thought how wonderful it would taste on baked salmon. I also couldn't wait to use it in a bruscetta. The flavor is just amazing!

Lemon Olive Oil and White Balsamic: These two wonderful finds blended together make the perfect dressing for a fresh summer salad or a light, cold pasta dish.

Even when I don't have a specific purchase in mind, I find myself strolling into Beyond the Olive every chance I get.

You never know what delicious new treat you will discover.

What a unique experience! Not to be missed when visiting Old Town Pasadena. The couple that own the store are so knowledgable and helpful in educating and recommending.  There's something for everyone here. If you're a cook or just enjoying eating good food, you'll love this place!

There's tasting for all of the edibles (olive oil, vinegars, honey, jam, olives and various spreads), fabulous gifts and home decor.  All high end quality and affordable prices. Stop by and see for yourself.

My visit to Beyond the Olive was interesting, fun and educational.  I had no idea that there were so many different kinds of olive oils and I was encouraged to taste them all using some very tasty bread that is purchased locally.  I love the concept that they specialize in oils that are made in California.  Their slogan is "say no to foriegn oil".  Also, you buy an olive oil bottle for $5 and then bring it back for refills.  I really enjoyed my visit and can hardly wait to go back.

I visited this store today (Jan 12th) for the first time and I found it be a treasure trove of olive oil related goodies. A casual passer by, I'd not meant to actually buy anything, but having sampled the delights of on offer and spoken at length with Crystal, one of the co-owners, I found myself walking out with 2 bottles of delicious olive oil (one freshly pressed in Dec '09, the other infused with basil) and my mind reeling with thoughts of all the gifts I am going to buy there for family and friends (and myself) over the coming year. Beware this boutique could be extremely bad for your new year's resolutions not to spend money on one of life's little luxuries!
