I used to reside in the ever so classy Gables Republic Tower in downtown...loved it....but one thing I REALLY loved about it, was that Beyond The Box was just downstairs. Granted, it's only open Mon-Fri during work hours, but if I were to stay home one day...I would always go down there and clean them out....eat like a queen for days!

Basically, it's like they took the pre-cooked section of Central Market.....added more lunch accompaniments like chips, sodas, wine (yes, i said wine)....and put it in the first floor of my building. They had freshly cooked EVERYTHING...and the good stuff...marinated pork shanks, salmon, meatloaf, stuffed peppers, pecan crusted tilapia...just to start....steamed broccoli & asparagus, potatoes augratin, sauteed mushrooms...the list goes on and on. I wont even begin to torture you with the desserts.

If you dont want anythin that fancy..they also have fresh packaged salads, sammiches, wraps.....you have a plethora of little cups of fancy dressings and dipping sauces to choose from....the Oriental chicken salad matched with the Thai peanut dressing was my favorite! Also their southwestern chicken wrap with black bean & corn salsa was amazing. You can also grab chicken salads, tuna salads....potato salads.....I highly recommend the southwestern chicken salad....with corn, black beans, red onions in a mix that had a definite kick to it. That stuff was so good, it sparked numerous friends of mine, including myself, to try and make it ourselves. Never as good as theirs though.

Need something to START your day??? Run in their in the morning, grab some coffee....and a breakfast croissant or biscuit. All different kinds to choose from... Grab a little thing of yogurt and granola if you want. It's all there. They missed NOTHING.

Yes...this is all pretty high tech for a quick lunch grabbing spot..so no, it;s not cheap, but you pay for what you get..which is greatness. Thats why the 4 stars...you cant go there everyday or else you would go broke....BUT..(and a lot of people dont know this) on Fridays you can go in and get as much as you want half price, before they have to throw it out. So...STOCK UP! Get me some chicken salad while youre at it..

OK - I have to admit - I have lunch here about 3 days a week.

I ALWAYS get a salad.  You can get a pre-made salad here for less than $7 that rivals anything you would get at a gourmet restaurant.  They have about 8 different salads on regular basis.  I have to admit they broke my heart when they discontinued the beef fajita salad a few months ago.

The folks are pretty cool here -- check out the mash-ups playing on the speakers in here.  One of the guys that works here makes them and they're fantastic.

Keep this place in business!  Go eat there today!

I'm gonna be honest here...I need to get a second take on this place.  My first experience was sorta Zen-like...and that could have totally been because I was having an ick day at work and needed a break.

I'd been meaning to grab lunch there for the past six months, but there's a Taco Bell downstairs and geeez...I love Taco Bell so much!  But I was having the most stressful day in history so I decided to take a break.

The place is a little overwhelming when you walk in because they have such a fantastic selection of foods.  There's an area with drinks and snacks which are not refrigerated.  And then there are whole fridge cases devoted to wraps, salads, sandwiches, entrees and cold drinks.  Think tiny Eatzi's on some of this.  But it gets better...there's a dessert case filled with gourmet goodness.

That's where the zen begins!  KEY LIME PIE and a blackberry Izze.  I sat on a stool staring out the window mindlessly and blissfully shoving what was quite possibly the best key lime pie known to man into my mouth and washing it down with blackberry Izze.  I felt so metro.

I sifted through their menu looking for what I would try next time I was in...everything sounded amazing.  I'm gonna have the Indian Wrap--curry chicken salad with walnuts and grapes.  And I'm gonna order it online and then eat on a park bench in Thanksgiving Square so I can share my chips with the pigeons.  They deserve a little Zen too.

I agree with the first review here - the first thing I thought when I walked into this place was...'oh, it's like a mini-eatZis.'  It was great to find a completely different lunch alternative Downtown.  Beyond the Box is essentially a small take out joint (just a handfull of seats available here) where you pick pre-made meals out of a case and warm them up yourself in their industrial high-speed microwaves.  They also have some very fresh cold sandwiches, salads, and a very nice selection of sweets and desserts.  You'll find several coolers with a HUGE assortment of drinks to pick from too.  For lunch I had a small lamb shank and a twice baked potato, along with a salad, and it was phenomenal.  Very cool lunch concept!
