I only came for a piece of ribbon, but after seeing the cut your own ribbon section...I went a little ribbon crazy, because the ribbons were oh so pretty and cheap? I couldn't resist. I'm also working on a project, so I needed ribbon for that.
The piece I wanted originally was a shiny lavender piece for my graduation dress, at least 1" in height and about...at least 70" long...After viewing the selection, I decided on a dark purple 1.5" umm...it was about 1.49/yard. I got them to cut 2.5yards of that shiny dark purple piece.
After leaving this place, I had a bunch of yards of RIBBONS for a low low price of around $13. The ribbons made my day, so I'm happy with that. I sound boring with no life, I am.
This place is closer and more accessible to me than others. Unfortunately, my experiences with the personnel there have left me choosing other stores over this one. The service at the cutting stations is not consistent either. Sometimes, I get someone that is helpful but most of the time, I get the sense they're not happy to be there.
In terms of selection, I like the beading selection but the fabric area leaves a lot to be desired.
Lots of yarn to choose from! What? I like to knit. (scarves, that is). I think they have a better yarn selection here than at Jo-Ann's AND Michael's. The yarn selection at Michael's totally blows. I still like this place.
I always kinda liked Jo-ann's fabrics more than this place. This place is a bit more expensive than Jo-ann's and i always kinda feel lost in this store.
The only reason I come here is because it is closer, and I can stop by Trader Joe's after.
Not bad at all for a chain store, this spacious location is a good destination for your crafting needs. It's never crowded and the aisles are clean and wide. Plus, they constantly have coupons (e.g., 40% off any one item) in the paper (Examiner). It doesn't have the best selection of anything but it has quite a bit of everything: beads, picture frames, iron patches, scrapbooking materials, fabric, ribbons, yarn, rubber stamps, stickers, paint, candles, baskets, card stock, fake flowers, cross stitch supplies, buttons, wedding favor supplies, baby shower supplies, craft books, craft kits for kids, craft magazines, etc. They even have fake houseplants, lamps, and shelves.
The rubber stamp selection is focused on holidays. The yarn is mostly acrylic and novelty (Red Heart, Lion Brand) but they have some wool and even free knitting and crochet lessons. They have a good assortment of knitting needles (straight, circular, bamboo, metal, plastic) as well. The prices are okay but the coupons make a big difference. With the 40% coupon, you can get a pair of circular Clover knitting needles for under $6. It's nicer and better than the JoAnn's in Colma.
You can find coupons on their website: http://www.beverlys.co...
Beverly Fabrics and Crafts is an Excellent retail store for crafts.
They have so many types of tools for expression.
I bought a kit to make my own Iron-On Embroidery Fabric. The paper craft choices are mind boggling. Paper Products rule.
There is a great selection of Art Stamps and great How-To-Books like :
Generation T 108 ways to transform a T-shirt By Megan Nicolay Workman Publishing New York 2006 ISBN-13: 978-0-7611-3785
The store is not good for patterns but that is OK. They have good sewing notions and patches.
This craft store is convenient because of its location in relation to the city and parking. However, I gave it 3 stars because it simply doesn't carry as many products as Michaels or Joannes. Selection is limited in both its crafts and fabrics. Items are often overpriced. For instance, an apothecary jar will set you back $40 each. But again, the location beats having to drive out to the East Bay for Michaels.
I must mention the ladies that work in the fabrics dept. are so sweet. They are helpful when you ask for certain things. Although 9 times out of 10, they won't carry the fabric, they always try to suggest alternatives.
I wish they had this craftstore back in SoCal. I came here on a chance of the fact that I was dying and needed to complete my LoveFest costume by rocking some gems on my face like a mask. I googled to see if I could find a Michael's or Walmart and there was NOTHING within at least 15-20 minutes or having to go to the EastBay. Apparently (as some lady said at Target when I was asking her regarding the nearest craft store).. "People around here have no time to do crafts." GEESH!
Luckily I went on Yelp and find a craft store. This was about 15 minutes from where we were staying. Everything here was priced a lot less than Michael's and the selection was pretty good.
My gems came out to $0.98 a pack versus Michael's which usually costs about $4.
Parking is a pain in the patootie though!
I think from now on, places that are as good as they are cheap will get 5 stars from me, and if not, then 4 stars...unless it is super-duper awesome...
I'm so glad hubby was willing to drive here from Daiso after I spent so long in there, plus after we visited the nearby mall and such. He was being really generous with his time today. =)
I like this store...to me, it is better than Michaels and possibly Joann's. They had a wide selection of scrapbooking materials, and their paper selection was lovely...a LOT better than Michaels. However, their regular price for papers was 69 cents as oppose to 59 cents, and at least at Michaels, there are sales on paper once in awhile where it's 4 sheets for $1. Hubby found some sparkly hippo stickers there, and I truly respect a place where I can find hippo stickers! Hoorah!
I love their selection of fabric as well. Lots of fabric I would love to have...but, of course, its not cheap.
So, overall, this store definitely has a lot to offer...however, I must admit, it is a bit messy in there, with not a lot of space, but I liked the Christmas decor and sooooo much scrapbook stuff...*Sigh*
I frikkin love this place. second to grocery stores.

artistic/martha stewart haven something something. very well stocked with an assortment of things.
This place is great. It's way better than JoAnn's and the staff is usually nicer.
Parking, since they've expanded Westlake Center, is questionable. I'm all for commerce, but when the heck did Westlake Center become so popular.
I have had to find various things over the past few years and 99% of the time, I can find it here.
The yarn selection is fair. They carry a few higher end yarns. It's not Imagiknit, but it's good enough.
The ribbon selection is huge, but sometimes they are out of the ribbon you want. Ribbon pricing is fair and by the yard.
I love their pen and marker section.
They have a good floral craft section, a huge stenciling selection, and various crafting areas, including books.
We have literally spent hours just going from aisle to aisle dreaming of all the creative things we could do.....ooooo, so much potential.
I am not much of a seamstress, so I can't fairly review the fabric section.
Definitely the place to go if you need crafting supplies.
They do accept credit cards, but not American Express.
PS - keep an eye out in the Examiner as they often have a 40% off coupon for Beverly's on Tuesday's or Wednesday's paper.
Beverly's has a larger selection of fabrics than Joann's location over in Colma. As for crafts there is a decent selection of jewelery making supplies from chains, eyepins, headpins, earwires, beads, tools. The scrapbooking paper, punches, stamps, and dies cover a few rows buyt my favorite scrapbooking supply spot is either Micheals or Scrapbook Nook in San Bruno. Micheals and Joanns ocassionally have 40% off their scrapbooking and jewelry supplies on off weeks so be on the look out. They do not have as extensive paint and art supply compared to Micheals but pretty decent aisles. They also have the usual fake florals and wedding supplies.
After my wave of super craftiness, aka destroying and crappily hand-sewing my dyl bay 2 breakers shirt back up, I ventured to Beverly's in search of some black, plastic, heart-shaped buttons. I just needed those final touches to complete my Incorrigibles costume.. I wandered through the store aimlessly in awe of the assortment of beads, yarn, and other crafty things.. they're incredibly organized especially for a store with small things.. it's too bad i'm not really crafty... because all i could think about was if/when the next big earthquake hits.. i hope I'm at Beverly's in the yarn aisle... the walls of yarn would collapse and i would swim around in soft cushiony balls of string... ok now im thinking about swimming in a vat of cheese... i'll stop now..
service: you can ask for help, and they'll let you know.. didn't have much of an issue there..
assortment of buttons: relatively good if you're looking for most normal buttons.. if you're looking for anything cute.. there's not too much... i ended up getting 2 other types of buttons for future use, if i ever have the urge to cut up my shirts..
can't rate on anything else because i was too zoned into finding my damn buttons.. so 3.5 for now...
Get your craft on!!! Huge selection of fabrics, yarns and all kinds of other craft items. This is a great place to go for holiday ornaments, too(they have serious sales after the holidays).
I also appreciate their wonderful inventory of yarns - rows and rows of beautiful yarn at great prices.
Customer service could definitely be better, but it's not as bad as Joann's Fabrics at the Metro Center in Colma. Surprisingly, the store is pretty well-organized and never gets to the point where it feels "cluttered."
::Sung to the lyrics of The Beatles "I'm Only Sleeping"::
When I wake up early in the morning,
Lift my head, I'm still yawning
When I finish up with all my day dreams
Get in car, head to Beverly's
Please don't wake me, no
don't shake me
Leave me where I am
I'm only crafting
Beverly's the place if you are crafty
Walk on in, stores not drafty -----
Running down the aisles at such a speed
Till I find, the crafts I need
Please don't spoil my day
I'm miles away
And after all
I'm only crafting
Keeping an eye on the shelves passing my by crafts eye
Taking my time
Shopping there I feel my mind is reeling
Getting that crafty feeling
Please don't spoil my day
I'm miles away
And after all
I'm only crafting
Keeping an eye on the shelves passing by my crafts eye
Taking my time
When I wake up early in the morning,
Lift my head, I'm still yawning
When I finish up with all my day dreams
Get in car, head to Beverly's
Please don't wake me, no
don't shake me
Leave me where I am
I'm only crafting
I'm not sure why this place has fabrics in its name because the selection is pathetic. Lots of calicos and printed cottons mainly for the quilting set but nothing of substance for anything you'd wear outside of Halloween.
There is a remnant section in the back where you can occasionally find a gem. Although I'm not sure where these gems come from because there's nothing like them in the main part of the store.
They do have a half decent selection of inexpensive yarn and knitting needles/notions. And there's a boatload of other crafty stuff I have no idea what to do with.
I found a great dog sweaters pattern book here yesterday that I HAD to have! I now am currently knitting a worsted weight/ribbed/charcoal colored/turtleneck sweater for my dog Penny...
:D
WTF is mod podge? EXACTLY! 5 STARS! If you have mod podge in your store you pwn! I still don't know WTH is mod podge. But I think the manatee is going to mod podge her fatty folds together.
More pricey than Jo-Ann's but about the same in quality.
Parking is okay...there are parking lots, but it gets packed pretty fast.
There are inexpensive sections of yarn and other knitting needs. (Check in the back!)
As for fabrics, not sure how much you can find. Wish they had more stuff on sale though.
I am the LEAST crafty or creative person I know...BUT I can see how a crafty and creative person would LOVE this store. The store is packed with tons of stuff at reasonable prices. Seeing 20 and 30% off signs make me squeal with delight!
A friend reintroduced knitting to me and I have been to this store twice in the last month for yarn!
Four stars for the stellar customer service...NOT! Actually minus one, I never go there and ask for help, I just know what I'm coming in for because it really is just a bunch of high school kids working there after school needing to learn the value of money in a low key place. You'll notice, they put the smart girl who can count in the fabrics section because she actually knows the difference between a yard and a foot. Bitter? No, just being honest.
Sorry, please don't let the service fool you. Beverly's is a great store. You can get a lot of little things there for your art and craft projects. The fake flower selection is pretty awesome and very realistic looking I might add. Obviously, this is not a place to get fine arts supplies. I mean, you wouldn't go into Payless asking for Prada so don't go to Beverly's asking for Old Holland oil paints (some of the most expensive but lush paint you'll find!).
For the most part, it can meet your art and crafts emergency needs and you can pay at both ends of the store, which makes it quite convenient when you're in a rush. Biggest tip: Go there after major holidays (Valentine's, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.). The prices are amazing and you can stock up!!
Bev's gets four stars because they are the only conveniently close location to get all your crafting goods at a reasonable price. They have a smattering of everything one needs, even fabric. Sadly, it is only a smattering, and if you don't like the particular brand they carry then you will just have to trek out to Michael's or find yourself a Walmart. (I suppose you could go to Joanne's also, but if you go there you're going to find even less of a selection for even a higher price.)
I do have two questions about this place...
1) Does anyone ever buy those home decorations they have in the middle of the store? They have a ton of them, they never seem to change, are rather expensive, and I have never seen anyone carry one to the register.
2) How many times do I have to write my name, address, and email on that flyer list before I actually get one?
I cannot tell you how much I love this store. Not only their selection for scrapbook is incredible (I went when they were having a sale), their price is also reasonable. It's nice and clean inside, bright and big enough (not like Pearl). All the different kinds of stickers- it's like heaven for sticker lovers and srcapbookers.
ROSSE SAYS: YOU MUST GO TO KNOW HOW WONDERFUL THIS PLACE IS.
My significant other loves this place. It has a lot of hobbies and craft things and its more originized than say Michael is. Somehow, their high vaulted ceilings makes you feel more welcomed.
they regularly send 40 percent coupons for 1 item, so its better than paying full price. they even have swarvoski beads, which are hard to find from time to time.
only notch a star off for their weird hours of operation... closing at 7pm on weekdays and 6pm and 5pm on saturday and sunday... hey my inspiration comes in the middle of the night towards 9pm... why oh why arent you open at that time/
SF needs a store like this. There are plenty of art stores, but not many craft ones. My friend had to drag me out of this store because I stayed so long.
From a quilter's perspective: I give this store 4 stars because it's a great source if you're trying to build a stash on the cheap. They have a HUGE selection of sale fabrics, and while some of the fabrics are the lower quality stuff, you can definitely find the high-end fabric lines on the sale rack as well (PB, Hancock, etc.)
Their sales on fabrics are well worth it! Their sales rack is well organized, unlike the Beverly's in the south bay -- they stack their sale fabrics on a table, making them harder to get to.
Love this store. Great crafts and things for your artsy needs. Sale items are a good deal, even thought usually sale items aren't the things you really want or need..
Great craft store for all your creative needs! I like looking at all the cool stuff they have--trinkets, thingymajiggys, paint, markers, crayons, glitter, fabrics, clay, yarn, the list goes on an on. Cool place!
when i'm feeling martha stewarty, beverly's is my go-to place for:
- favor supplies for all occasions - weddings, baby showers, bridal showers, bachelorette parties, baptisms, etc.
- wedding wishing well & diaper cake supplies - paper mache boxes, paint, ribbon, flowers, etc.
- school project supplies - mission projects, book report dioramas, native american and ecosystems displays, etc.
- cub scout den projects - paint, paintbrushes, yarn, pipe cleaners, blocks, clay, etc.
- invitation supplies - paper, envelopes, stickers, cutouts, cutesie hole punchers, etc.
- miscellaneous artsy/craftsy projects - glue sticks, spray paint, fake flowers, candles, more ribbon (gotta love the ribbon!), felt, fabrics galore, jewelry kits...the list goes on and on.
how to relieve stress? fuel my creative outlet while watching tv (preferably some tlc, hgtv or diy show!) and i could do even more damage if i had the time, patience and energy to scrapbook...
tip: if you can't find it here, try party warehouse next door =)
This craft store is stocked! Recently, I spent at least an hour here looking through fabric reams, knitting needles, yarn in every color of the rainbow, and ribbons. They've got about the same kind of craft items as Michael's and more. This includes cross-stitching patterns, embroidery, and rubber stamps. It's the perfect place to shop for those little things that will make any room a bit more homey.
When I feel the need to get crafty, I go to Beverly's... This store feeds my creative instincts... Tons of scrapbook supplies, plus all the variety of colors in yarn.. I could spend a whole day in here just thinking of things to create.. Nice organized aisle with lots of light. Not like the Jo Ann's or Michael's where you have to really search for what you are looking for. Prices are reasonable too..
I go to Beverly's from time to time. They have a giant selection of everything under the sun (rubber stamps, stencils, yarn, fabric, paper etc.). Their prices are a little bit more than JoAnn's but at least their aisles are clean and they are well stocked.
Wow, I can spend a lot of time in these kinds of stores! And that's only in the scrapbooking section! Found a decent selection of stickers and embellishments...wasn't as nice or as complete as the Joann's on Klose Way in Richmond, but better than the Joann's in Colma. Parking in Westlake can be kind of a hassle, especially since this store is across the way from Trader Joe's. I'd give this place 3.5 stars if I could!
looking for arts and crafts supplies?
this is a great place for all sorts of stuff to help with your creations...
and the prices are very reasonable
I rarely come into this store since I am not super crafty and have no use for the majority of things in there. But every once and I while I pop in likeee.....yesterday. I like to head to the rubber stamps section in the back and check out the merch. And what did I find? I found a rubber stamp with a cute image of a garden gnome on it. I had to buy it. I LOVE garden gnomes and I don't know why. The stamp was about 8 dollars which I consider to be huge rip off but the gnome made me do it. Also, bought some golden books for my niece. Anyone remember those?
I grudgingly give the 3rd star because Beverly has helped me out of a few craft "emergencies" without sending me to the dark and depressing JoAnn's. Bev really needs to pick fewer things to specialize in because she is spreading herself too thin. I always leave needing to go to another spot for something on my list. Maybe I am being too difficult, but what kind of fabric store doesn't have polyester fiberfill? Also: the scissor selection is pathetic.
This is a good place to load up on cheap yarn if you're just starting out. The needles are also pretty cheap, check it out knit bitches.
i love, love, LLLLLLOVEEEee beverly's... i'm a very crafty/creative person and love to do projects... i find that beverly's has almost everything i need and that's good because i dont want to go to 5 different art stores to get all the stuff i need.
my boyfriend hates taking me to beverly's because i will spend hours in here. i have a set shopping list once i go, but once i step foot in beverly's i look at all the stuff and wonder what project i could make next and i just totally forget about the stuff i need to buy.. haha
i love their selection of stickers!! and especially when they have sales (which isnt too often, blah)
I spend way too much time and money here but I absolutely LOVE it. They are great for picking up crafting items for most crafts, they do have a limited fabric selection but they have a GREAT bead selection and I prefer to go here for yarns than JoAnn's. The other AWESOME thing about Beverly's is the free knit/crochet workshop twice a month. I've been wanting to knit for years but didn't know how. I went to the workshop (the only requirement is to buy something) and was well on my way on my first scarf after just a little while. Shirley is great, very patient and versatile in what she teaches. Teaching me to cast on and helping me get started knitting is a testament to this. I am now working on my 2nd and 3rd projects, just gave away my first as a Mother's Day gift. And, they have tons of free knit/crochet patterns hanging out with the yarn.
This is the closest place to pricey San Francisco for cheap craft and fabric supplies. They always have a good sale and if you search enough you'll get past the flowery stuff for some good basics and cool paper and fabric patterns. Sign up for their mailing list and you'll get a set of coupons most months - including one for 25% off anything.
