As a bowling alley, Beverly Bowl should rate only three stars.  It's just plain A-OK.  They have some pool tables, and they used to have some arcade games (they still might), but nothing is wow-worthy.

I'm giving Beverly Bowl four stars, though, because it's a random thing my mom and I have in common.  No, we've never bowled here together.  In fact, I don't think she and I have ever been in the building at the same time.  But we both spent time as teenagers at Beverly Bowl, and that's pretty random.  Especially when you consider the fact that I didn't live in Montebello when I was a teenager.

I don't know what you did in high school, but when I was hanging out with Dan, Emi (RIP), Carlos, and other members of the carpool, we often played miniature golf for money or just bowled.  Beverly Bowl was a bowling alley of choice because it was closer to Emi and Carlos and because you could also play pool there.  Whenever we did play pool, I used to get slightly annoyed because there was always this crew of older Armenian men playing at the next table.  I have nothing against Armenians (I am one), but one of them used to make racist comments about my friends.  These comments were made in Armenian, and since I didn't exactly know how to respond in Armenian, I didn't say anything.  One of the older men (not the racist comment-maker) was really short.  He was literally 4'9" or so.  Anyway, I came to find out that he was a family friend's father.  At weddings, he would always ask my mom to dance, as she was the only woman anywhere near his height.  (My mom is five feet even.)

So not only did I spend time hanging out in a place where my mom had hung out twenty-five years earlier, but I also spent time around the same short old Armenian dude who used to ask her to dance at every wedding.  And we're Armenians, so we go to a lot of weddings.

I wanted to find a place for daughter's bday, besides the usual going to dinner. i suggested bowling, because a friend had come for her sister's bday and she said they had a good time.
it was like 20 bucks per person, and that included shoes and bowling for 2 hours.  We ordered from the cafe, and the girl there was very nice and brought our pizza to us. The guy at the counter was really nice too, because i haven't been bowling in a billion years and had lots of questions.
we had a good time, bowling, eating pizza and drinking beer (not for the kids) and soda for the teens! they have a bar that looks out of that old Twilight Zone episode, but it's nice and clean, and i would totally come back!

learned how to bowl here... technically, I don't think its called Beverly Bowl like it used to be since its now owned by AMF, but whatevs. Still Beverly Bowl to everyone living in the bello anyways, right?
Haven't bee there in some time, but I went tonight, and dayammmm... it was PACKED. The joint was crazy busy and we had to WAIT AN HOUR to get a lane!! Absurd no? But hey, good for them and the 'hood. bowling is a good pasttime.
We had crazy fun with unlimited bowling for two hours, shoes included, Saturdays after 9pm, for $19.50 per person. The cheap bud light pitchers and rocking music helped. Oh, so did my friends. :)

I went last week on a thursday night and had a good time.  I have been to a few bowling places, but never this clean.  Now could that be, that I go to cheap bowling places, or is it that I have tried to go to nice bowling places and they disappoint me? Nonetheless, it was a nice place to hang out and have some fun.  The only thing that I disliked was the price, $9 dollars for two rental shoes.  To me, I think that is too much for a pair of rental shoes.  Don't you think?

really knowlegable pro shop staff but stinky poo, they don't honor AMF coupons that their corporate company sends out. that, in my opinon, is a bit rediculous. that really stinks!! ugh! anyways, like i said, the staff here are really helpful. walter has come here and has received a few free games from the staff, as they helped him to find the bowling ball that would be just right for him. i thought that was cool. it's pretty busy here and parking is usually pretty easy. the waits can be hours sometimes. but really, it's a fun time and  long as you are not with some boring ass people, you will have no problem trying to chop it up with your friends for the hour that you will be waiting. like i said, it's pretty easy to wait it out and it's lots of fun. unlimited bowing is fun when you're a more competitive bowler. otherwise, if you're more the real social type, then it's not so great an idea as you may spend time talking with friends and sharing laughs rather than rackin' up those pins in those empty frames. good stuff but not the TOP place that i can think of.
