While it's not my beloved Binny's, I really do appreciate BevMo. They have the vodka I want and the Torani sugar-free syrups I love.
They have great wine sales where you buy one bottle at regular price and get a second for $.05.
The staff has always been friendly and helpful. They have a really good selection of wines and liquors. They also have little silly kitschy items like single cocktails in a glass.
I second the notion about Victoria calling he employees racist. That is absurd. They sell alcoholic beverages are are SUPPOSED to card you...it's kind of the law you know! I'm Asian and some of the employees there are Asian, as well as Caucasian as well as Hispanic as well as African American. So, get over your paranoia that people are racist.
Anyhoo...enough with that. This store is huge compared to the BevMo we went to last week in Willow Glen. The employees couldn't be anymore helpful. They were so nice, that it drove me to write this review.
We're getting married in March and our vendor does not provide liquor and so it is up to us to do so. I heard about the $.05 sale and knew that it was a deal that we could not pass up. We did about a weeks worth of trial and error tastings from the bottles we bought at the Willow Glen location. The sale was ending soon and we were pretty much fed up with buying some bottles and finding out that they're awful. Since we needed to buy 53 reds and 53 whites...i asked the employee if we could taste some before we made the purchase. Now they only have tastings on Sat but they made the exception for us.
I am so glad that they did because we ended up choosing the wine he recommended as opposed to one that were were going to get 3 cases for.
We also tasted a very nice port that we ended up getting for ourselves.
Not only were the employees very nice, but they were very knowledgeable about their wines as well.
here is why I'm giving Bevmo 5 stars. So a day earlier my friend hits me up and says lets have a pony keg for our friend's going away party and I'm like cool; I'll go get it tomorrow. Now being I've never purchased a keg before (always sent others to get it) I go down to bevmo where the guy tells me you have to order it 3 days in advanced. I was like wth?! But he proceeds to tell me, if we have something you want in the fridge and it sold I'll let you buy it today. So we walk in the back and he lets me look around as he calls out the kegs, low and behold, blue moon pony keg. woot!
Plus the day I pick up the keg, Jana from Sagatiba rum gave me a free drink, took my picture and gave me a free t-shirt.
These two stars are for the variety throughout the store.
There's practically everything there!
The employees are complete idiots:
Carded us because we're Asian and we look young!
Racist bastards. He was super rude about it, too!
Don't go to this one.
Came to buy wine, left with an invitation to date a 30 year old. Gotta admit, I've never had a cashier write his number on the back of my receipt before. Also gotta admit, I liked that he pretended to card me, just so he could check out my driver's license. When you're 42, you have to savor these moments. Savored. Done. OK, thanks.
Aside from that, your typical Bev Mo. Works for me. Ample parking, good prices, great wine selection.
Great great great Location (aka less the 5 minutes from my house)
They have just about everything here and prices are on point. Employees are friendly and more then willing to help with anything. Store is spacious and lots of parking.
If you're planning on getting a keg, make sure you call a couple days ahead of time!
Bevmo = better than Tower Records.
Both full of alcoholics. Both full of addicts. Both have occupied the same location at the corner of Santa Theresa and Blossom Hill. But Bevmo is comfortably lacking in the pretentious a-holes department, in which Tower seemed to flourish. The staff is very informed, helpful, and they have a lot "mo" than most Bevmos (which seem to focus on the "Bev"). Not a ton of soda pop (but I did pick up a hilarious ironic-ode-to-the-Soviets lemonade called Leninade). Wine selection is huge, and all the usual suspects were present. BUT they had a much larger than average sake section (nothing your local Nijiya or Mitsuwa won't top, however).
And since they just opened, the next few weekends are packed with tastings, pairing lessons, and apparently, visits from Peggy Fleming.
WARNING: Excessive consumption of items purchased at Bevmo may lead to shopping next door (at Babies R Us). Be careful.
Came here just to browse one day because I'd never really been inside a bevmo. I was pleased. It feels like an 'adult' version of a candy store to me- fancily packaged intoxicants, in more flavors, colors, and sizes than you will ever need. woooo- alcohol!
Not my ideal floor plan for a BevMo, but it will suffice; the first aisle is the spirits section (I'll be interested in knowing what their Shrink percentage is over time), which is kind of awkward because I'm used to hiding in the back corner with my Cointreau and Zen Green Tea Liqueur. I don't know why, but sometimes when I'm immersed in that particular section, I feel like I'm dreamsharing with my pals Gobo and Mokey down in Fraggle Rock... That aside, Beer is in the back, across from the wine and there's two separate sections for sodas: six packs and individual bottles. There's a small cheese section somewhere towards the middle, glasses can be found all over the store, and accessories for alcoholics near the front (i.e. flasks, pouring spouts--everyone knows these are used so you don't spill when you're drunk, and label savers).
The employees were very helpful and knowledgeable, even though this location is brand new. They didn't seem to have an abundance of staff, but it was a typical staff-to-shopper ratio this evening. I guess I'm used to getting clapped in at grand openings, getting free XXL t-shirts, and deciding I don't want to be there after 10 minutes (see: Apple Store).
I came here with Shannon C. who is a complete beer nerd (she's on the waiting list for Celebrator) and her library friend to stock up on beer, jalapeno mustard and lime juice. We spent about 45 minutes in the store, which for us is a short trip, but managed to take a peek at everything. The wine tasting ended at 5, which was pretty disappointing, as that is when my alcohol consumption usually peaks (see: getting off of work).
Well I do miss Tower Records but I was super excited to see that BevMo was gonna be taking over the space. The Tower I bought my first ever CDs at (Faith No More "The Real Thing" and Living Colour "Time's Up") just recently became a pet food store... *shudders and sheds a tear*
Anyway, this BevMo is pretty cool so far. I'd have to say their beer section is a bit smaller than other BevMo's I've been too but is still sizable. The staff was really helpful. One dude helped me track down some Becks Light even though there wasn't a tag for it on the shelf.
Good place to pick up your libations!
This place is great! I ended up buying a couple of bottles of champagne. Gotta have my Sofia Blanc de Blancs. Seems a little smaller than some other locations but it pretty much has everything you need. Me likey. I just need to sign up for that rewards card thing and I am set :)
