I checked out this morning, and this morning could not have come any sooner.

I have to say that the hotel staff were really friendly and this in no way is a review of them. They are innocent bystanders in the crime that is the Bethesda Court Hotel.

I was forewarned by colleagues not to expect anything out of staying here - this was a no frills hotel that happened to be extremely close to where we were working.

The interior is badly in need of updating. After emerging out of the uncomfortably small elevator onto my floor, I had a flash back to a scene in the movie "The Shining". There is that moment where the camera is peering down the hallway and blood starts to pour out from everywhere.  I imagine that all opulence taken away and absolutely no serious cleaning over a period of twenty years would come close to what this felt like. Stale, damp-ish air, sheer ugliness. And even though there was no blood, one can imagine that at some point a homicide may have taken place.

The room was so-so. Bed comfort: satisfactory. TV: Flat screen hanging on the wall (they got something right). A refrigerator was in the room as well as a coffee maker - basically most items you would expect out of a generic chain hotel.

I slept like a baby that night and it probably had more to do with how intoxicated I was. Dragging myself out of bed the next morning, I really noticed how small the bathroom is. Only a shower is tucked into the corner, and what a shower it is not. I felt as though I was at the Public "Y" wanting to take a shower but had forgotten my sandals to wear in the shower. The need to wash the layer of alcohol emerging from my pores and wake up outweighed the strong desire I had not to step into this shower. The hot water took forever to arrive once I turned the knobs.

Showered, packed and walking out the door, I see a little white bag hanging on my door. For whatever reason, some genius has come to the conclusion that putting your checkout folio in a little plastic bag, similar to the one the dentist gives you after a cleaning, is a good idea. Sheer waste.

I happily emerged to the warm humid air and was on my way. Had I needed to spend more than one night in this town, I would have check the F out of here in search of something else.

One night: $246 and some change after tax.

2.5 stars. Pleasant.  Serene patio area.  The smallest elevator I've ever seen. Located not too far from this coffee place they have up there called Starbucks.
