I was continually expecting this stay to lapse into some sort of misadventure, but this place consistently shined through.  The staff were exceptionally nice and personable.  The morning free breakfast exceeded my expectations although the meeting room it was held in was like sitting in a corporate lunchroom.

The only thing really keeping this place from 4 stars was housekeeping needs to be boosted just a tad.  We found evidence of some previous guest's crunchy snack mix just barely under the bed.  To share isn't to care in that instance.  3 stars.

On December 26, 2010 my partner and I decided we wanted to experience the wineries in the Salinas Valley, he looked online for a hotel and found the reviews for the Valley Harvest inn located at 1155 Front Street Soledad CA to have some good reviews.   He called and spoke to a woman he made the reservation which online stated 79.00 per night king bed in room.  We checked in around 7 pm on the 26th we asked if we could get a room away from the highway so the person at the front desk gave us room 110.  The price was 89.00 per night not the 79.00 quoted on line.  We went to the room opened the door and the odder of cigarettes was very strong we walked into the room they had a small love seat coffee table, small dining table, bank of cabinets with  a 2 burner stove top built in, sink , small fridge that made a lot of noise and small coffee pot.  The furniture was falling apart, I had to hit the table leg back into place or it would have collapsed, the bed was a queen size (we asked for a King) the foundation of the bed was broken on the left bottom and right top so no matter where you laid on the bed you were rolling to the edge of the bed.
We never asked for a (what they called Mini Suite) or a smoking room, but when we checked out and I asked the woman who checked us in why she put us in a smoking room and a mini suit without asking us her answered was well your friend was smoking prior to coming in the office and that was the only smoking room.  First off my partner does not smoke inside anywhere, so why would someone assume and upgrade you without asking. Second I don't smoke and don't allow anyone to smoke in a closed room where I will be.
The room was not as nice as we had expected I have stayed in hotels that looked worse from the outside but had nicer rooms inside, the furnishings are very old the couch has stains on them and they look like they came from the rent a center from 20 years ago.
I will never stay at this hotel again and will never recommend it to anyone.  I would have stayed at the motel 8 just at the end of the block it looked nicer and the rooms were more modern for a less price.

Wanted to visit the Pinnacles Natl Monument this Memorial day with the family, so this seemed like a convenient place to stay.  It is convenient, but that's about it.  The rooms are dingy; there were no toiletries in the room (no soap, shampoo, etc).  When we called the front desk, instead of bringing these items to the room, they asked us to come and collect them at the front instead, after which they took me to their storeroom and allowed me to pick up a few items.  There was no one at the front desk during the afternoon, so we had to wait awhile to ask questions.  There was a faint smell of raw sewage from the outdoors every time we opened the front door to our room.  The free breakfast was a joke - they had cold muffins, orange juice and coffee.  Plenty of butter and jam, but no bread/toast (we tried to have breakfast at 7.30 am, so it wasn't that we were late).  Real downer when you have kids - we had to go next door to the McDonalds to get some "real" breakfast.  Very odd place.
