We went in late March for some spring snowboarding.  This hotel was better than we expected.  It is right on the lake.  Our hotel room was located in the back of the property, and we could see the lake from our patio.  The room was very clean, the staff was nice, and the room even had it's own fire place.  The rates were even very reasonable for a holiday weekend.

Watch out for the 'complimentary welcome packet'...it does include coupons and information for activities and restaurants, but it also includes a 10 minute sell for a 'free' boat trip to Emerald Bay...after a 9am meeting to tour a new resort they're trying to promote.

For anyone considering a stay here, and may attend the complimentary breakfast:  please use the utensils they provide.  No one wants a bagel after you've stuck your hand in the bin.

I have stayed here literally over 6-7 times? I forget. My husband gets comp rooms thru his work, so I guess I'm biased a bit on my review, though I have stayed at many hotels over my lifetime to compare too.  I love the location of this property, so peaceful.  The rooms are good, they were upgraded a few years ago, they used to be way, way worse.  I do like the fireplace, it adds a nice touch. They also take animals so my dogs get to come.  As for price can't really gripe about it, it's always free.

I will start with the positive, the location is excellent, and the rooms have small fireplaces!  We booked the hotel because of it's proximity to the Lakeside wedding chapel where our wedding was to be held.  We asked if we could have a group discount for 10 rooms and were told no.   After looking into it we realized that our AAA discount was better then their group discount.  The rooms were pricey but we figured the location could not be beat.

I was disappointed at how small the rooms were and they looked really outdated.  When I pay over $150 for a room I assume it has a bath tub maybe a small fridge and/or a microwave.  I was disappointed that we had nothing but a very small bathroom with a tiny shower and a bed.  We had a small table and two chairs.

We did not have a view and were jealous of our friends who reserved a lake front room....but that all changed when we found out how noisy it was in their room.  The hotel has weddings and other events..which go on until late and can be very noisy.  Our room was not cleaned everyday either.

I do NOT recommend this hotel.  You can get a cheaper room somewhere else that is much nicer.  You can also pay the same price and be at a much better hotel across the street at the Inn By The Lake where the rooms are spacious, have tubs, refrigerators and microwaves.

This is a humble hotel. Which does not mean that it's cheap. Yep, the world is not a perfect place. But hey... LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION! This property is very clean, pet friendly, has all the necessary amenities and is right AT the lake- so there is no noisy busy road that you have to cross in order to walk by the lake.

Just one more thing: all rooms have a fireplace. It's an imitation (gas flames + fake logs) but it works, and in a place like Tahoe Mountains it's quite an important detail, believe me... All in all, one of the better valued properties in South Lake Tahoe, CA.

stayed here for 1 night. Had a great lake view room on the top floor with a balconey. Great views of the lake, beach and pier from our balconey. Room was a little smaller then I expected but well appointed. Access to the beach and pier are perfect if you have kids.

My review is just for 2 night that we stayed. We like the room, even it is quite small. You have a nice bad, table, fireplace,TV,it looks more then enough just to stay in room for your evening. Location is pretty nice and you do have access to the lake.Breakfast was ok,but nothing special.

While it was nice to have a room facing the beach, we rarely got to see it as this place is wedding central. We were subjected to 5 within 24 hours, all of which were either immediately outside our door or had speakers pointed towards our room. Unless you're getting married, try somewhere else.

We ended up here after a long day at kirkwood. We stopped to check out rooms at some of the smaller, cutesy-sounding mom-n-pop-looking motels down the road, but most of the rooms had stained shag carpetting and I kept expecting to find a dead hooker in the closet at most of them. Plus, I couldn't get that movie "Vacancy" out of my head.

So instead, we checked out this Best Western. We "suggested" that there were two of us looking for a room (our friend stayed in the car during our transaction) so the price was completely reasonable. Very clean room, comfy beds, and a nice big clean bathroom with great water pressure for getting rid of the ski sweat and mountain funk.

Nice and toasty too, and very quiet. I would definitely stay here again. It's a few more blocks down the road than many other motels, but worth the extra five minute drive.

My stay here was Sept 2006, a whole week which I thoroughly enjoyed.  My Yelp profile picture is actually a beautiful view from this hotel (my room overlooking the lake).  The rooms are gorgeous, ours had a private balcony with table and chairs to sit out on, and the fireplaces are a nice touch.  Nice pool and hottub.  The grounds are gorgeous, there's an outdoor wedding chapel, and you can walk along the lakeshore which is just a few feet from your room.  The rates are reasonable especially if you book online and use your GCCI card and AAA card.

Directly across the street is a Safeway, and better yet a Starbucks inside the Safeway!  We ate at a casino one night (The Horizon) but the rest of the time was food picked up at Safeway's fullsize deli and everything was wonderful.  I wasn't interested in BW's onsite overpriced restaurant so we just heated up stuff from Safeway.

This is the only BW I have encountered (and I've been to dozens!) that doesn't allow coming and going during the entire breakfast hours to get more coffee, grab another piece of fruit or whatever.  At check-in, the hotel gives you a ticket for breakfast and a hostess takes it from you when you enter the breakfast room.  I don't think I like that, but I'll still give 5 stars, it was really a memorable stay and would definitely visit again.

Absolutely loved the rooms with fireplaces here.  The pool was nice, and we loved the beach access.  Not too far from town, also comes with comlimentary breakfast bar with pastries, hard boiled eggs, not a full buffet.

"pet friendly"... when i got there this last saturday, i asked why there was a $25 pet fee.  the woman at the counter (later identified as "janera," a supervisor) told me it was because they shampoo the carpet after a pet has stayed there.  when i tried to explain that any commercial vacuum cleaner will remove pet dander, she would have none of it, insisting that they shampooed the carpets after pets leave.

so the next morning i check out, and ask the clerk (a young man named "alex") how often they shampoo the carpets.  he replied that it was as needed.  what about when pets stay in a room, i asked?  he said, well if the pet really messes up the room they might, but otherwise they don't.  but my, how his story changed when i asked him to refund the pet fee janera had told me about with the shampoo story!  he said well, we do an "extraction" (what, you remove teeth?  you pull a prisoner out of his cell?  what the hell?) on the room for extra cleaning.  i called bullshit, so he insisted that "this is just our policy."

i'm writing best western and the franchisee about this, but here's just a bit of advice for hotel clerks:  if you're going to lie to guests, at least make up a good lie and keep your lies consistent.

don't stay at this place.  and don't take crap about "pet fees."  dogs are dogs, not chimpanzees or elephants.  hotels don't need to do anything special just because a dog stays in a room for one night.

Nice lodge. Very clean. Friendly staff. Reasonably priced especially for this high tourist area. The fireplace is a plus. The continental breakfast is decent. During my stay here, 3 feet of snow fell. The lodge had the snow plowed, but they inadvertently made a snow bank that blocked all the cars. When we asked for a shovel to dig our car out, they didn't have any on hand. We had to dig it out ourselves. That was the only negative about this lodge.

5 stars for a great location. The Timber Cove lodge has a nice beach, with a long Pier that you can walk out on. The Pier has a nice restaurant on it called the Blue Water Bistro. Many of the rooms here face the lake, with some grass and flowers between your  patio or balcony and the beach. The hotel is 3 stories. Rooms are clean and a decent size. This hotel is dog friendly, so there are quite a few guests with dogs walking around the grounds, and dining outside at the aforementioned restaurant with their pooches. Speaking of animals, there are also lots of ducks, geese, and cute little chipmunks on the property. There is a very cold pool, a very hot hot tub, and a very mediocre breakfast buffet included with your stay. I had to take away 2 stars because of the cost. Rooms run $180 per night, plus tax, which comes out to just over $200 a night for nice but no frills rooms. There are no mini-fridges or microwaves in the rooms, only a stand up shower, and no bathrobe or anything fancy that one would expect for $200 a night.  On the other hand, it is hard to find a pet friendly place that is so clean..............and sunsets from the Pier are gorgeous.

This place is not half as bad as I thought it was going to be; 3 1/2 stars, but I'll round up. Stayed here over the weekend with the fam and my doggy in a Mini-Suite. I was afraid the room was going to be really small for the 6 of us, but thank God we had a mini-suite because we had a whole other room with a pull out sofa-bed. Although the pull out was lumpy, the fire place was a little generic (gas), and the bathroom could use some remodeling, the room didn't reek of smoke, it was CLEAN, and it was up to date. I was pleasantly surprised. HOWEVER, I am not a big fan of the whole $100 deposit for a pet and $25 fee. At least they could use that money to upgrade their whole "Continental Breakfast." Mini sized doughnuts and bagels, with dry danishes, bread and hard boiled eggs? Eck. It is what it is, though. I called around many other hotels to find ones that accept pets and I felt that this one was the best for its location and price. Mont Bleu also accepts pets, but for $299/night they could kiss my entire ass. So, all in all a positive experience with Best Western.
