What the heck, I'll go with the flow and give them 4 stars. The inn is clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly at check-in. I guess the rooms are newly renovated but there is still that air of Tahoe chic, if you know what I'm saying. It's really a motel, the room doors open onto a breezeway adjacent to the parking lot so you can hear people and cars coming and going, but that's not a huge deal. Parking seems to be at a premium but we never had trouble getting a spot. We couldn't hear our neighbors except for a few times when they dropped something on the floor above or bumped against the wall.
The included breakfast was pretty good. Typical American breakfasts: eggs, sausage or bacon, potato, toast, juice and coffee all included. Pancakes and the like available. The first day we had a half an hour wait and it seemed like the lady running the place had no clue. But after seeing her in action for a couple of mornings it seemed like she did a good job of filling the tables as fast as they emptied so plan accordingly and give her a break.
Affordable place from which to enjoy Lake Tahoe. Easy walk to lake, casinos, and heavenly.
The staff was friendly, the linens and room were clean, beds comfortable. The pool and hot tub were great, and they'll give you a pass to their own slice of beach if you ask.
As others have said, free breakfast is just awesome, but be prepared for Bonnie, the hostess. No one should have that much energy this early in the morning, let alone a AARP member just out of the hospital from pneumonia. Seriously, shuffling in half-awake and pre-caffeine, it was like being hit in the face with water buffalo. She's got energy and is sweet enough to rot your teeth.
Free internet is nice, but bring your own ethernet cord, or remember to pick one up at reception when you check in.
Love this place!
We stayed there during our many trips there for our wedding planning. Then half our guests stayed here for the wedding. We got great rates and then group discounts.
Breakfast was wonderful! Anything off there menu free (which is a full menu). You actually sit down and eat with waiter service and everything.
Bonnie was great and remembered us after only 1 or 2 trips there (out of about 5 or 6). She is very ... um.... happy for so early, I agree but she gets you smiling even if you are not a morning person.
Rooms clean, quiet, and last time there most were just remodeled.
Returning in a couple weeks for 1st anniversary and already have our reservations.
Sweet! Finally a great affordable place to stay in Tahoe! I've stayed at several places in Tahoe, and this by far has been my favorite. It might be a little pricier than Motel 6 or some of the other crappy 2 star hotels, but well worth it. The rooms were very clean and cozy. It's about a 3-4 block walk from the Heavenly Village and maybe 6 blocks from the casinos.
The best part about the hotel is the complimentary breakfast they serve in the morning. We were expecting some crappy continental breakfast (i.e. cereal, grits, and maybe fruits), but you won't get none of that here. They sit you down in an actual restaurant. The host was this petite older lady named Bonnie. She is the sweetest lady ever, almost like she's out of a Mother Goose fairy tale book. The food was pretty good considering it was free, I thought it was better than a Denny's breakfast. I can't wait to stay here again...
I found this place based on yelp reviews because I, too, love a warm and free breakfast when I'm skiing! We stayed here for four nights and it was inexpensive (averaged about $110/night for a queen room during the holidays) and very simple. Our room was small and the hotel doesn't have the bells and whistles or overly friendly service that a nicer place would have. It does have a hot tub and pool (seasonal) and is located within walking-ish distance to the Heavenly Gondola (about 15 minutes or so if you're hauling your skiing apparatus with you through the snow).
The breakfast was free but otherwise unimpressive (hot chocolate from a packet with clumps in it; "scrambled eggs with cheese" was the special on most days). This is totally fine given the alternative, but I should mention that it was served in a sit-down restaurant rather than a buffet, which means WAITING. Waiting to get seated during busy breakfast times, waiting to get served, and waiting get your check for the free meal (they always remind you to leave a tip!) means you'd better get there really early if you want to get on the mountain at a reasonable time. That's a bummer!
Went on a last minute trip to SLT and decided to try this Best Western out. Very friendly staff, and incredible cheap price for a hotel a block away from the beach and 2-3 blocks from the Stateline. Also, Heavenly is 2 blocks away as well. The hotel offers free breakfast every morning at their restaurant, and it's not just a cheap continental breakfast, but you get a real breakfast. Also, they give you a free pass to the private beach down the road which is a quick walk away. Hotel rooms were clean and spacious and again, you can't beat the price especially compared to some of the bigger hotels down the road. I will stay here again when I'm back in town.
I couldn't believe this was a Best Western! Since it was a special occasion, I booked the suite with jacuzzi tub for $130. The room was very nice and clean with two LCD TVs and lots of space for our snow gear. Breakfast at the restaurant next door is included and pretty darn good. My plate of french toast and eggs was more than I could eat. The front desk staff were friendly and there's a computer in the lobby if you need it. There is internet in the rooms, but I didn't want to bring my laptop on a snowboarding trip.
The motel is in a good location. It's a short walk to the lake, the Heavenly Gondola, or the casinos. The streets are pretty dark, so bring a flashlight if you're going to be out walking at night. It's also off the main road, so it is fairly quiet (unless you have rowdy neighbors). The only downside was that the two soda machines near our room were out of order and the third machine was out of water.
I can't believe that no one has reviewed this place yet! I bet that people who have stayed here are staying silent to keep this treasure hidden!!
In the South Lake Tahoe area, there are a zillion motels and hotels to choose from, but none can compare to this place. The rooms are a little on the cozy side, but they are well-heated, clean and reasonably-priced.
The BEST thing about staying here, though, is the freshly prepared breakfast that you get each morning in their restaurant (included with your room!!). Gone are the days of eating dry oatmeal out of a styrofoam cup or gnawing on a Cliff Bar on the way to the slopes.
How about homemade biscuits and gravy, bacon, eggs, strawberry waffles, hot cocoa with real whipped cream and orange juice instead? Sounds pretty good, huh? Tastes better than that, even!!
The staff at the restaurant has been there for years (at least during the last six years I've been going here) and they provide excellent, friendly service. The hostess in the morning is a cheerful, squatter, elderly, leather-clad version of Tammy Faye Bakker ... only with MORE mascara and inappropriate daytime clothing. She's wonderful!! :)
There are other special things about this hotel that I can share, but you should check it out and find out for yourself. It's a cannot miss!
There is nothing fancy about this Best Western, but it is conveniently located near shopping and casinos. The best thing about this inn is their breakfast. Made-to-order breakfast is included in your room rate regardless of the size of your party. They have really good orange juice and yummy hot chocolate. Nice old lady hostess at the restaurant will always recommend the house pancakes ("they are to die for"). She is cute, very energetic and friendly. I want to be like her when I grow up :o)
I second Caroline O. about the beds. They are not the best of beds, but the breakfast does make up for it.
I stayed here one night on a week-night without a reservation. The woman at the front desk was helpful and sufficient in giving us options for our room as well as showing us a map of the property. The room was clean and modern, and the pool and spa stayed open past 10. The best two things were the price (we paid $71 for one night, tax and other fees included) and the complimentary breakfast beat any other I'd ever had. The breakfast is in the hotel restaurant, and instead of picking from a measly buffet, you're given a menu with many options. All you have to pay is tip. Most importantly, the hostess at the restaurant was the sweetest, hippest little old lady I'd ever seen. She'll make you a fan.
Thanks for the review Jenny!
This place is amazing.
Rooms have been remodeled and are right between a usual Best Western room and a Hilton room. That is excellent for a Best Western.
Our room was $71 for a King size, had free internet access, included access to the private beach (just 2 blocks away), and free breakfast in the morning. Breakfast is amazing. No lame continental slop fest here. You can order from a great breakfast menu, anything you want, including the special. We had the special / blueberry pancakes with bacon or sausage (butter arrived soft for spreading). Before we could ask, they offered us eggs to go with it (listed on the sides, not part of the meal). We both got two extra eggs with the breakfast, coffee, and hot chocolate (you get OJ as soon as you sit down). The extra charge? $0. This place is also just 3 blocks from the Casinos & Heavenly's chair lift. Hot tub and pool were also nice and clean, as were the pool towels (which you can take to the private beach). OH! Hot tub had very powerful jets (sweet!). The lobby was also really nice and had free internet access via a PC (in case you didn't bring your laptop).
FYI - Reviews aren't tops for the on site restaurant. We walked over to Josh's inside the Horizon casino for dinner. Holy Yum Yum!
I was definitely impressed with this place. A clean, quiet, comfortable room, great location, friendly service, and a hearty breakfast all for a reasonable price in South Lake Tahoe. There can't be enough said about the made-to-order complimentary breakfast at this place -- it turns a ho-hum hotel stay into a warm and welcoming experience.
My only complaints were that the bed was not very comfortable and our non-smoking room smelled faintly of cigarette smoke (which my travel companion did not notice), but neither of these issues were serious enough to prevent me from returning. It will definitely be my hotel of choice for my next ski/snowshoe weekend.
