This was a great hotel! The staff was friendly and professional. The pool was big enough for the kids to have fun in and the rooms were spacious and clean. The cafe in the morning was wonderful.
I would stay here again given the chance. Thanks BW Sonora!Comment from Christopher L. of Best Western Sonora Oaks Hotel 9/7/2011

Made a reservation with them to have a pet. Checked in and the next morning manager called to say animals means dogs not cats. Even though corporate office said that's not right. I checked out and will never go back.

Stayed here during a recent trip to Yosemite. Sure, it'll probably read that it's only 30-40 something miles away, however, keep in mind that it'll take about an hour. There's an 8-10 mile stretch that will not allow you to go faster than 15mph. Also, if you're stuck behind an awfully SLOOOOW driver, you are fucked.
The hotel was all that I could ask for: DOG FRIENDLY, comfy bed, spacious, clean, free WiFi and the complimentary breakfast (Lone Pine Restaurant) was delicious!
They also had a cocktail hour, with complimentary beer, wine, and snacks. The host was so kind to give me extra, because I'm most certain I looked like I needed a few more rounds after a grueling hike!Comment from Christopher L. of Best Western Sonora Oaks Hotel 9/7/2011

It was okay, but we will stay else where next time. Didn't feel that comfortable there and the heater was not really working well. The fidge hum all night long! I had cleaner bath rooms.

Had a stay due to family member being in hospital nearby. the room was spacious, clean and quiet. I loved the bed, pillows, all helped me relax in a difficult situation. the breakfast included in room was OK, a little bit on the greasy side for my taste, but generous portions. I would stay here again if I was in the area.

PAPER THIN WALLS
While the rooms are comfortable, the wall are so thin I could literally hear the person in the next room open their drawers. Not the closing, just the sound of the drawer on the runners. On my last night here, I received a call from the front desk reminding those of us staying on the second floor to be mindful of the people below us. The hotel representative was nice, and I'm sure that they were just trying to make the person below happy, but I'd been laying on my bed for sometime talking on the phone to my mom. Not sure what they were hearing. Plus, the tub running next door sounded like a waterfall even though I was sitting in my bed.
NO CELL SERVICE
Speaking of cell phone service (T-Mobile), I was only able to make cell phone calls from two places in my room- either on the porch with my phone on the right side of my head, or lying on the bed diagonal with my head in one position. Me thinks not, especially for the "executive" wing of the hotel.
WORN SHEETS
The sheets, which were satin damask, were so worn they felt like flannel. I didn't tell them not to change my sheets (even though I try to keep my hotel stays a little "greener"), and the next night the sheets were also worn. So, either they didn't change them or both sets were remarkably worn out. Wow.
TERRIBLE RESTAURANT
Yes, the four choices of breakfast are free, and you can order a breakfast sandwich to go which is nice. However, my "oatmeal" was actually Cream of Wheat. It was good Cream of Wheat, but this is still a fail in my book. I ate dinner here, since it is the ONLY RESTAURANT NEARBY and ordered their Tri-tip dinner, which was one of their specials. The meat was not Tri-tip, it was brisket, and the baked potato was anything but flaky. Along with the side of Texas Toast from a box, the highlights were the cooked carrots. Wow.
WINE RECEPTION??
Yes, they have a free "Wine Reception" but it isn't worth staying at this hotel. Served in the small lobby, there are potentially eight places to sit, best case scenario, and no room to effectively mingle if you were so inclined. The wine is the economy level, and while drinkable, easily forgettable. Also provided were a few beers and sodas. The munchies provided were reasonable.
MOSQUITO IN ROOM
Maybe I let it in, maybe the house keeping staff did, but I was feasted on during the night. I killed her in the morning, but not before suffering numerous bites. This really didn't factor into my overall Yelp score, but I'm still bitter and itching.
Obviously I wouldn't recommend this hotel. Don't know why my experience was such a drastic difference to other Yelpers, but my colleagues agreed that they'd rather stay somewhere else then return here.Comment from Christopher L. of Best Western Sonora Oaks Hotel 9/7/2011

This is a great place to stay when in Sonora. It's location is perfect for going Jamestown or to Murphys's and of course Sonora. The rooms are clean and neat and the staff were very nice. The restraunt serves great breakfast and lunch ! Eddie and Sarah manage the place and do a great job. Friday night is Karoke night so be sure to hang out at the Pine Cone Bar to listen to some talented and not so talented singing. Alot of the performers from local or regional theathre come to sing and that is always fun. !

Stayed here over Memorial weekend. Very happy with this place! The front desk staff were awesome, room was a good size, the bed was comfy, loved the free wi-fi, and got a kick out of hearing the frogs near the restaurant next door. We were on the second floor and never heard anyone else around us at all.
We received a voucher for a free breakfast (only certain items are free, but the rest of the menu is discounted). There weren't very many people there when we arrived but it took FOREVER to get our breakfast. They are so stinkin' slow, it's not even funny. (Sigh) I was just so eager to get to Yosemite! Anyway, the food was good even if it's at a snail's pace.
I would absolutely stay here again.Comment from Christopher L. of Best Western Sonora Oaks Hotel 9/16/2011

I recently attended a convention at the Best Western Sonora Oaks. I took my wife and infant daughter along. The room we had was clean, pleasant and "business class" stylish. The rooms which were provided for our organization's functions were adequate and comfortable. The vouchers for use at the on site restaurant certainly were convenient. The staff was courteous and friendly. The only drawback is that the hotel is a bit removed from the town of Sonora itself. I believe that the organization to which I belong will make this hotel our permanent base for our annual meetings in Sonora.

It'll do.
WHAT?
The free wi-fi requires a certain number of cards or some monkey business. You can also use the free computer in the lobby during certain hours.
OK
Rooms are fine. They do the job. Pool and a hot tub open until 10pm... okay.
EAT'N
There might be some good places nearby... don't know... went to the attached restaurant out of pure laziness. :) This is the type of restaurant where you figure there might be something they do well... I couldn't find what that might be and I tried to be careful about it.
With the room, you get a free Crapintinental breakfast... or you can order off the menu and save 2 dollars... okay.
OVERALL
Not good, not bad. It'll do. -

Decent lodging.
There's a sign out front that reads "Voted Best Hotel/Motel of Tuolumne". If that's true, I'd hate to see what the other places look like.
What I liked best about my stay here was the free HBO (because there's really not much to do here after 9) and the microwave & refrigerator (because there aren't any open restaurants past 9pm!! ) -

Great place to stay if you're heading to Dodge Ridge. About 30 min from the mountain and on the way from the Bay Area. If you pre-pay, the rate is really reasonable. Breakfast is included, and it is pretty good and filling to power you through a morning of skiing.
If you go, definitely check out the Karaoke Bar and belt out your favorite western. Just make sure you don't take the bartenders favorite song. Also, don't make my mistake and order a glass of wine -- guaranteed it will come from a box that they proudly display on the bar. -

Hubby and I stayed here this past weekend. At the last minute (the same morning) our gf couldn't come and the reservations were made under her name. She wrote a letter that gave us permission to use her credit card.
Checking in, I told the guy at the front desk and he said he would have to fax a paper to my friend to get her drivers license number. I told him that she didn't have a fax machine. I then asked if I can use my credit card instead and use her AAA discount. He was really nice and did just that. Thank you!
This place has gotten better since the last time we stayed here (last year).
He gave us 2 vouchers. One was for dinner if we ate at their Pine Tree Restaurant. We had a choice between a glass of house wine, beer, soft drink, tea, coffee, OR Nan's old world bread pudding.
The other voucher was something new. This time we got to choose between 4 meals. I don't remember it all but the ones I do remember are:
One was a traditional meal of eggs, pancakes, and coffee or OJ.
Oatmeal
Belgian Waffles
The only complaint I had about our room was that the blankets were too thin and didn't keep us warm. We had 2 Queen beds and we took all of the blankets off one bed and used it in our bed. Haha! That did help a bit.
We turned on the heater and it's one of those old ones underneath the window so it was LOUD and a bit stinky. I can't sleep with any noise so we had to turn that thing off.
It was around 1am and I heard a group of people in the parking lot just talking and laughing so loud. I peeked out my window and the restaurant was closed and they were hanging out on the side of the restaurant.
I can never sleep somewhere new on the first night. So I wasn't sleepy. They left around 1:30am. I went to bed and tried my hardest to fall asleep.
I wake up at 2am cuz a huge truck was driving by and then I hear the group again. I said to hubby "I'm giving them until 2am then I'm calling the front desk to complain."
They left a bit later.
Oh! I must mention while I didn't go out to the swimming pool, I did see people swimming in it. So that must be a good sign. I'm glad I didn't bring my tankini, it was sooo cold!
Breakfast time:
The coffee was so bland and did nothing to wake me up. If you're a Splenda user like me, bring your own.
The waitress was a bit rude to us.
The other waiter spilled a glass of ice water on someone's table. When I saw him with a pot of coffee in each hand and he asked if I wanted a refill, I was quick to say no thanks. Hahaha! No really, he was a very nice guy.
How do you tip on a free meal? I'm guessing you tip on the price of the meal? Let's just say our meal was around $12 and I waaaayyyy over tipped. I tipped on a $35 meal.
Oh well.
The food was good. A lil' on the bland side.
I'd only eat here again if I stayed at this Best Western hotel and got a free voucher.
Checking out- the same guy who checked me in helped me check out.
Free wifi in each room. No password needed.
Complimentary coffee and computer use in their lobby.
This visit was MUCH better than our last stay here.
Oh ask for a room away from the main road.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Ahh vacation.
Sure it's Sonora, but hey, I will take it!
We got a king bed smokers room.
Upstairs. Yuck. Thank heaven for the husband and his strong arms that can carry all my shit up the stairs.
The room was clean. First thing we did was check for bed bugs. Seriously. We both have a germ phobia, I guess. Good news, no bed bugs found.
There was a giant footprint in the tub, that didn't ever come off.
The HBO channel was horrible to watch, a lot of static. Not sure why.
I brought up my laptop and had no problem logging on to the Wi-Fi. I have the card thingy in my computer so I didn't have to check out anything, which was nice. The connection was not as fast as mine at home, but it still worked fairly quick.
The Continental Breakfast is a rip off. Every other hotel that I have stayed in has a completely sucker free continental breakfast. You know what I mean, they set up toasters, cereal and danish plates in the lobby, you grab what you want and leave. That is what I expected, but we had these little tags to take to the restaurant next door. Umm, ok. Shit, I should've put on make up! They make you actually wait for a table, keep in mind, this is Sunday morning. They had you this little paper menu with like 5 items on it.
One cold hard boiled egg. Danish. Blah blah blah. No explanation if you only get one or multiple. If you choose to actually order a meal, you get $2.00 off per person. Of course we ordered a meal. Since I am already sitting down in a restaurant, I don't want a piece of toast and fruit cup. I want some breakfast. Too bad the restaurant sucks. Really. We have eaten here several times over the years and last weekend was the very last time we will eat there again. The food is bland and boring.
The front desk gals were pleasant and friendly. They gave me a free candy bar to review the hotel on trip advisor. Little did they know that I am a Yelper! -

My 12 year old and I stayed over the weekend of the 4th and had a great time. Or room was not near the pool and the peace and quiet was perfect. The breakfast is far better than the usual fare as it is a voucher for the restaurant there. They also give you vouchers for dinner and for their little Happy Hour in the lobby. The staff is one of the nicest I have ever encountered. I would recommend this hotel to absolutely everyone. And I will.

Our family stayed at this hotel just several days ago for Memorial weekend. We stayed before at 3-star hotels and expected certain level, but this hotel is something more then we expected. We stayed at 1 bedroom suite, and it is big even for our 5-people family. Pool is small, but kids didn't care about the size. Breakfast was free at hotel's restaurant, and it was a breakfast, not just juice and cereal. We also went to the same restaurant for dinner twice, and food was surprisingly good and tasty. Try Greek salad and ribs there, it is VERY good.
The only thing that didn't work out is that we planned to take with us our dog, and this hotel is pet friendly. But when I called to find out, they told us that all pet-friendly rooms are taken by other pet owners, so we had to leave our dog at pet hotel. But during our stay we haven't seen any dog or cat or heard any barking or meowing. It looked like there were not any pets at all. Is this hotel really accommodate dogs and cats or this is just to attract more people?
Well, after all, if I ever drive through Sonora one day, I would definitely stay at this hotel. -

We actually stayed up here about a month ago. This was our 2nd time staying here and it's actually a nice place to stay while visiting Sonora. We've stayed here once during the summer and once during the winter. It's not the 4 Seasons or anything. It's a Best Western and probably one of the better ones. For less than $100 a night, you get a room with frig and microwave, which is great for families. You get a voucher for breakfast at the Pine Tree Restaurant (across the parking lot). You get free WiFi and/or computer access in the lobby. Free USA Today in the lobby. The people there are friendly and they try to accomodate. They have a tiny pool, the kids enjoy it. They don't care it's tiny. The hotel is off the freeway and it's centrally located. There's a shopping center down the hill and other restaurants are nearby. The Pine Tree Restaurant is a coffee shop, so expect coffee shop type food. I generally don't seek out to stay at Best Westerns, but if they were all like this, I wouldn't mind at all. I've stayed at hotels where they nickel and dimed you to death. This Best Western isn't one of them.

Stayed here over the weekend as it is very close to the snow play areas. The room was great, staff was courteous and responsive to our needs. They offered to give us a AAA discount to save 10%. They provided a crib in our room for no extra charge. Overall a positive experience and we would stay there again.

This is a nice place to stay! The room that I got was $119.00 but hey! I got a complimentary breakfast at the pine tree restaurant which is owned by best western and may I just say that I truly enjoyed my stay there!
