7 reviews for Best Western Royal Palace Inn & Suites
This is where the boyfriend and I stayed for our aniversary mini-vacation.
It's decent.. we aren't people that expect much out of a room.. especially since we are on a vacation.. we only really use the room to SLEEP.. so there isn't a need for anything but a really comfy bed..
It seems that we were sent to a building with smaller rooms.. I would have loved to stay in the other buidling where the rooms had a little balcony.. I'm assuming it would have been a little bigger..
But.. like I said.. we were only there to sleep.. and it served it's purpose well.. and for that.. we are happy..
They had continental breakfasts in the morning.. the boyfriend LOVED that..
The toilet kinda sucked.. it wouldn't flush down all the way the first time.. it'd take two flushes or for you to hold down the handle to flush everything down..
The showers were wierd.. the cold knob gave hot water.. and vice versa.. it took me awhile to get the hang of it.. but it worked out in the end..
Our room didn't smell.. and the bed was comfy.. parking sucked.. but we managed to find a good spot each night..
So.. it was an ok place to be!

For the price this hotel is worth the price and the staff is very freindly and does everything to make stays as good as they can be. You have a microwave and refrigerator so you do not have to eat out all the time and can keep drinks cold. It is not the Waldorf but then not many are. It is good for a frequent traveller trying to keep the budget down. It is clean and though some parts of the rooms are small, you get a good night's rest here.
Good enough that my boyfriend's parents didn't have any complaints. That is lots and lots and lots of stars in itself.
Clean, not too far from "the sites" but not close enough to them to be pricey. There's a teensy outdoor pool and hot tub. Free continental breakfast including fruit.
The staff was really nice. They hooked me up with some plastic utensils from their stash as I found myself en route to a july 4 picnic sans silverware....and I wasn't even staying there.
Their room was a standard room but pretty big with a nice, new bathroom. So my mom is gonna stay here next month.

I feel somewhat guilty giving this place only two stars, given the bargain price we paid, but I really did not enjoy my stay here. This hotel has an old building and a newer building. I can only conclude that the people who gave this hotel 5 stars stayed in the new building.
Despite the name, there is nothing royal or palatial about this hotel, and our room in the OLD original building was lacking in attention to details. Our third floor room was clean and the bedding looked new, but it was still run down looking. There was a noisy concrete balcony with dirty plastic chairs and a view of the 10 Freeway and a house across the street with security bars on the windows. The balcony light was set to stay on all night (no light switch) and the curtains to the balcony window barely fit the window. Thus, the room was not very dark for sleeping. The windows are only single pane, which meant that we slept to the steady drone of traffic noise.
A 1970's style wall sconce was crooked on the wall, looked like it was going to fall off, and didn't work. A ceiling floodlight fixture had a spiral fluorescent bulb sticking out of it. The heat and air conditioner was a noisy wall unit that must have been at least 30 years old.
The bathroom sink was a perfect height for a 6 year-old child and the minuscule sink counter was only large enough to hold a toothbrush, toothpaste and water glass. The fluorescent lighting was bright and glaring, but that is actually better than the dim lighting in many hotel bathrooms. The shower stall was small with good water pressure.
On the plus side, we only paid $114. for a third floor room with two queen beds, a separate sitting room (small clean sofa, TV, mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker), and WiFi! For that, this hotel gets two stars instead of one.
The continental breakfast was so-so, but what can you expect for the price we paid?
Underground parking for the main building leaves much to be desired. You drive down a steep, narrow passage, and when you get to the bottom, you see a sign warning of low clearance. That wasn't a problem for me, but if you drive a large vehicle, ask about this before you go to the underground garage.
By the way, the person who said this hotel is in West Hollywood is incorrect. Maybe he stayed at a different Best Western or is confusing west LA with West Hollywood.
My friend came visit couple weeks ago and we picked this place. We don't know what to expect but since it's close to West LA, then we picked it. * sad...i don't even remember i drove by*
We arrived to the hotel, and they upgraded us to a "so-called" suite.
I must say that the suite was clean and for the AAA discount, it rounded up around $100 included tax. NOT BAD around West LA.
The suite was a little disappointed, it's just an additional area that has a table, and it was called a suite.
however, the price is really not bad and the bathroom was nice (has dryer).
I would rather it if your friend wants some reasonable price and close to santa monica.( it was close to the 10 and 405) =)
The boyfriend and I needed an inexpensive place to stay for the night, and figured a Best Western is usually a decent option. WRONG. Something tells me we could have found a Motel 6 of the same caliber for cheaper. (As if it wasn't already cheap enough).
When we checked in, they told us they'd upgraded us to a suite! Sweet! Upon arriving in the room, perhaps a standard room would have been better. Our door was at the top of the stairs. One step too far to the left and down you tumble! The non-smoking room smelled of old people and stale cigarette smoke. The bathroom was a cramped 4x10 foot closet. And that's including shower stall, kindergartener-height sink AND toilet. The tiny closet DID have a substantial safe in it. Evidently, in this neighborhood, it's a necessity. And in our room, even more so. The deadbolt had been kicked in and broken who knows how long ago.
The shower looked liked it had been installed twenty years ago, though it did have decent water pressure. Which was nice, but only if you're okay with having one of three temperatures: Too Hot, Lukewarm, or Freezing Cold. The boyfriend had a Too Hot then Freezing Cold Shower. I got a Lukewarm and then was hit with Ice Cold right at the end.
Oh. The parking. OH the parking. The majority of the parking is located under the building. Choose either: Steep Driveway, or Narrow and Steep Driveway to park. As we got back very late, we had to choose Narrow and Steep. As Vicki C. stated, there is a sign warning those with SUVs or large cars that they might have a problem getting out of the spaces. I drive a small SUV, and it felt VERY narrow and low. Cut the corner into the parking area too sharp, and SCRAAAAAPE! There goes your roof.
Yes, they do offer free internet and they did have one nice suede recliner chair in the room. But mediocre internet and a single comfy chair doesn't make up for everything else.
For $30 more, stay at the Holiday Inn Express on Santa Monica Boulevard, about a mile north on the 405. It was luxurious.
My stay here was in 2004 when I came to pick up someone at the Los Angeles airport. The place is nice, not much onsite parking but its free, and they have a free shuttle to and from LAX for hotel guests. My only complaint is that they violated the one cardinal rule of hotelkeeping: they ran out of ice during the dinner hour! Hotel staff however was friendly and helpful, and the rates very reasonable especially for a location in West Hollywood. I'll still give 5 stars since I would stay here again and this review is from a stay almost 4 years ago...so hopefully now they have more than one ice machine for the whole complex.
