I was pleasantly surprised by this motel. I went in with really low expectations because it's super cheap but instead found a clean and surprisingly large room, with more privacy than I'd anticipated (we booked the suite).

There were 4 of us (2 couples) going down to Monterey for a wedding and we wanted to save as much $ as possible so we booked the 2 king bed suite at this Best Western. I had pictured adjoining rooms with little-to-no privacy but in fact it was 2 separate bedrooms with separate (and adjoining) entrances, plus separate doors into the shared bathroom (so in the middle of the night we didn't have to go into someone else's bedroom to go to the bathroom).

There was a free breakfast in the morning, which wasn't super impressive but had cereal, toast, juice, and (crappy) coffee. But for $80/night (with AAA discount) for 4 people, I'm sold. I usually opt for nicer hotels and pay a little more, but for this situation, this motel fit the bill of being affordable, safe and clean.

Eh.  That pretty much sums it up.  That's right.  Eh.

Best Western can do better and so can I.  I'm not a fru-fru girl that needs to be staying somewhere that is super fancy but I can do better than this!  One of the lights next to the bed continuously blinked.  Annoying to say the least.  I don't mind the hotel being outside, but it is annoying to hear my neighbors entire conversation.  The bathroom was TINY and weird.  It SEEMED clean, but I couldn't be to sure.  And because I was a little concerned that they had perhaps at some point filmed a scary movie here I slept with the lights and the TV on.  I think next time I will make my company shell out a little more money than this!

Thumbs up! A fine motel for families. Clean rooms. Pleasant, helpful desk staff. Heated pool and spa. Short walk to cute downtown Monterey for restaurants, etc. And no doubt more affordable than staying near Cannery Row. The motel is not new--which seemed to be a problem for two other reviewers--but to me it only seemed old in its architecture. Fixtures, furniture, and TV were all fine--not dated. Also, the two negative reviewers were put up at the Park Crest by their company. In that context I would have been disappointed too. But for the budget-conscious family paying for it themselves, it's just right.

This is my favorite hangout, I come here at least once a month to relax.  The hotel is under new ownership, so there's many changes/upgrades including new furniture in rooms, new bed covers, and landscaping.  If you request an upper room you will get a nice view of the city lights and the bay.  The place comes with the usual Best Western standards, such as free continental breakfast, microwave in some rooms, refrig. in all rooms, a heated swimming pool and a hottub.  And wireless internet access actually works in all the rooms.  (I've stayed in most rooms).  It's nestled among gorgeous tall pine and cyprus trees and the famous Del Monte Shopping Center is about 3 blocks away (about a 20 min. walk).  And Fisherman's Wharf is also about a 20 min. walk  (I like to walk!)  I have found the staff to be helpful and friendly esp. Esmerelda and Terry.  Off-season rates are very reasonable.

yes, i wish i could give a negative star review. why you ask? well, let me begin....

so i get off the freeway and see the best western monterey inn. it looks super nice and friendly and warm, but unfortunately, i remember that i'm looking for the best western park crest motel. yeah... thats where they told me to stay. so i travel farther up the road and see that the places to stay get a little shady... a little ghetto. i'm thinking "i'm going to be ok. they wouldnt put me up in anything awful... would they?" i turn the curve and see the sign. oh dear god. its a motel out of one of those scary movies. you know, the scary movie where the desk guy is actually a serial rapist/killer than harbors strong resentment yet strong sexual urges when it comes to his mom. yeah, that one.
so i park in the parking lot and walk to the portable that i guess is the main office. weird. i walk in to find some guy speaking spanish into a cell phone. he looks as me as though 1. he wants to kill me in my sleep or 2. can't believe i'd actually stay there. id say he was thinking a little bit of both. i hand him my credit card, and he hands me a piece of paper... "fill it out". i look down and realize that it asks for my name, address, phone number, license plate number, and length of stay. theres no fucking way i'm filling this thing out. it will seal my doom!! he'll take the info and stalk me like prey until he kills me all law and order style. no thank you, sir. i put down a fake name, address, and license plate number. i think it was something colorful like tawanda or something. anyway, i digress. i get my key and walk up the stairs to my room. yes, no elevator. i open the door to find that the 70's have thrown up and it all landed in one room. i can't look at the carpet because it makes me dizzy. the bedspread is immediately ripped off and a towel is laid down on top of the blankets, because dear god, i dont want to pull back the blankets and find what i fear. i was seriously looking for the coin slot so i could make the thing vibrate. the bathroom was old and weird and the toilet looked like it barely worked. there was no clock and the tv looked as though they had just purchased it from goodwill. it was probably the worst night of sleep i had ever gotten in my entire life as i lay there wondering if bugs were going to crawl on me and if the desk guy was going to break into my room. next time i'll just sleep in my car. its cleaner, safer, and doesnt remind me of that 70s show.
