We scheduled this trips months in advance and requested a king size room. We get here after a long day of driving and sight seeing and we are told we have a queen not a king. We told them that we reserved a king and they told us no and that we are being charged for a queen. We asked for a roll away bed and they said that they are out of them.
It seems clean and safe and I am typing this using their free internet but the thin walls, lumpy pillows and beds do not help. By the way, their queen is a little large than a full!
I enjoy the fact that this hotel is far away from the freeway noise, but is a little secluded if you hope to just walk around in the nice weather. I do enjoy that this property is pet friendly and still offer a few smoking rooms, which is a rarity in California these days. I also like that a few rooms have a patio or balcony, so I can step out for a private breath of fresh air. I do think the continental breakfast is lacking pizzazz, and the fitness center leaves much to be desired (but at least they have one). The pool and hot tub offer a nice place to relax and socialize as well. I have looked at their suites, and dislike that both of them only have one bed, which looks like it hasn't been replaced since the '70s. This is also one of the few hotels I have stayed at that accepts cash.
The staff at this hotel is ALWAYS courteous and goes out of their way to address any problems or concerns you may have. They are very helpful in general. What a difference a year makes staying here again after a lot of the hotel renovations were finished. We stayed here in Dec 06 and they were just starting to renovate. We stayed again over Labor Day 07 and WOW the rooms in the newer section are all redone with all new interiors including dual paned doors & windows (we had a patio room), beds, bedding, new AC/Heat units, curtains, new carpet and fresh paint. inside and out. All of the rooms in the newer section of the hotel now have microwaves & small refrigerators. I heard that they are starting to renovate & upgrade (electrical, etc.) the older section this winter. For the price, it's really a nice hotel and not too far from anything and the beach (maybe 2 miles). It's nice to see the positive changes!
