CONS:
They advertise free internet access but when you get there they tell you access is available in the lobby only.
Staff is not friendly and helpful.
The hallways are narrow and creepy and the rooms not much better.
There is no view of anything anywhere unless you like overlooking a used car lot.
Once I came out of my room to investigate a very loud stereo playing only to find out it was coming out of the truck of an employee of the hotel (the handyman!). Door wide open, stereo full blast.
PROS:
Can I even think of any! Well the pool was open and was heated, so I had a nice swim. Small consolation considering everything else.
AN INCIDENT THAT HAPPENED:
Don't stay here if you value your privacy! During a stay last year, I was leaving my room to go visit Fisherman's Wharf and when I returned a few hours later I discovered housekeeping had entered my room even though I had put the tag on the door that says "DO NOT DISTURB". I did not want anyone in my room, I had my work papers spread all around and my laptop open, and I was not in need of maidservice. I also was keeping some medicine cold in a cup surrounded by ice in the bathroom sink because there are no refrigerators in the rooms, and to my complete shock the housekeeper had emptied the ice out of the sink and left my container of medicine sitting out in the open air. Furious, I ran to the front desk to complain and the clerk suggested that I had the door tag the wrong way out, as the opposite side of the tag says "housekeeping please". I was aware of that, but that was not the case. I was so angry, I couldn't stay one more minute in this awful place so I checked out just as fast as I could throw my things into the car.
They are also deceitful as they are not listed with Best Western properties anymore (and rightly so!) yet the Best Western logo and sign is still up on their property. This is true as of today because I drove by and I also checked in the 2008 listings of Best Western properties and Magic Carpet is NOT LISTED. They also did not respond to my complaint nor apologize for their unacceptable actions.
