I have had very good luck with Best Westerns-probably since I used to do reservations for them on Shelter Island, but still my son & I LOVE their Big Bear Chalet in the winter! The Palm Springs Best Western is very nice and Spanish-y and overall, it is not a bad hotel chain.

Back in my SF State days, I would always hang out in Pacifica & Half Moon Bay because it's just so damn pretty and rustic. Rockaway Beach is one of the few accessible spots in the Pacifica area where you can get on the beach and also access a big mountain with trails along the ocean that abuts the beach. I remembered this when I came up to San Francisco recently.

This particular Best Western is sufficiently good but not great.  The location is magnificent-overlooking the beach, but you pay a little more for that distniction- atleast $200/ per night on weekends.
My room overlooking the beach was perfect-I too opened the screen door and curtains for a invigorating sea brezze and view of waves crashing against the rocks. The pool & jacuzzi looked pretty good too.

What does drag this place down is the unredeemably BAD internet service. I plugged my laptop in and it couldn't connect to the internet. I called the front desk but they just passed me on to some tech desk which couldn't help me either.. I had stuff to write and was pissed! So then I go into their "business room," and that HP computer was a joke--it would throw me out of Facebook anytime I tried to comment. It would not even allow anything to post on Twitter. And forget about getting any emails!

To top it off-the printer-which I needed for a mapquest -kept jamming up. Someone came in and told me you have to hand feed the paper into it for anything to print. What kind of service is this-especially when the Wi-Fi in the rooms don't work, and then the computer the front desk refers you to-DOES NOT WORK & NEITHER DOES THE PRINTER!

Otherwise-tis a shame Best Western corporate doesn't spend the money to upgrade their internet service. To ruin a perfectly good property with a great location and unrivaled views by withholding needed improvements to their computer access-well, it doesn't make sense. But I did enjoy the great Santa Barbara Coffee Co. coffee and delicious basket filled with apples for breakfast.

Since I am so  fond of how romantic and out-of-the-way it is here, I would revisit but just  not plan on desperately seeking emails or blog reports again. With a few basic fixing-up projects and some customer service training for the front desk-This Best Western Lighthouse on Rockaway Beach  could easily hit 5 stars.

The location is beautiful! Overlooking the ocean, you can experience the exuberance of crashing waves. But what's the worth if you can't get a good night's sleep. If you pick this hotel make sure you have a top floor unless you're deaf. I heard every step, turn, and word from neighbors above. Breakfast was overpriced and not tasty in adjacent restaurant. Again, magnificent view. Staff at the hotel are friendly. That fact and the view are the best I can say about this Best Western. I wish I'd found a quiet hotel with a good breakfast instead. Signing off hungry and tired.

If you just want an okay place to stay, you can read this as 3 stars (average).  Where they lost points was in assuring me that they had reliable Internet access, when in reality you may spend 5-10 minutes of continually retrying before you can get on, and then when you do it's slow, and sometimes you can't get on at all.

Their Net access is through something called Sky River, and it sucks, sucks, SUCKS.  Any Motel 6 with wi-fi where I pay around $50 a night works just fine.  That Best Western at $230 a night can't do the same is inexcusable, and we definitely will not be back.

Oh, and the pictures make it look okay, but be prepared for polyester everything (the chairs, bedspreads, curtains -- everything).

We stayed here the night after Thanksgiving, and had a fantastic stay! We had a room facing the ocean, complete with an awesome fireplace; nothing beats the combination of the roar of the surf outside combined with the crackle of the fireplace inside. The desk staff was VERY friendly and helpful (especially the gal who checked us in, I think her name was Janine), and all we had to do is pick up the phone if we needed anything (like another log for the fireplace). Loved the robes to relax in after a hot shower, that was a nice touch that you see more often in more expensive hotels.

Would definitely stay here again and again, and look forward to returning soon!

Decent hotel - the hotel is right on the ocean and you have the wonderful ocean waves to lull you to sleep.  Housekeeping was pretty slow, but otherwise it was ok.  Nothing too exciting (and likewise, nothing too horrible).

If you stay there, definitely ask for a room facing the ocean, otherwise you're looking at the parking garage.

The previous review HAD to have been written by the owner.  We found the hotel comfortable (nice beds), clean and quiet.  All in all, a very reasonable modestly priced hotel.  I would have no problem recommending it to my friends.

On the down side, internet access is atrocious.  That, combined with no cell service (ours is AT&T) left me feeling rather more cut off from the world than I had hoped for.

Nice place on the beach in Pacifica; as it turns out, our nephew and belle-niece spent a few days of their honeymoon here (within easy drive of both SF and Santa Cruz), and I'm here a few weeks later presenting at a conference.
Comfortable, splendid front desk and support staff, and the catering for our crowd is Just Right (eggplant & marinara for the veg*ns, and real, ripe tomatoes on the sandwich buffet at lunch? Mm!
The free wireless is Just Fine, everywhere in the hotel we've been (all over in different guest rooms and larger group rooms).
Recovering from foot surgery, my partner finds the wheelchair accessibility to be great; there are a couple of ramped hallways  from here to there in the building, do-able by ArmStrong wheeling; another colleague's power chair is making the grades just fine.  Grab bars and wheel-in shower in the accessible rooms, plus room to turn around in the chair, make us both Very happy to be working and resting here.

My divine retreat from the city on a regular basis.  The ONLY direct oceanfront place to stay in the area,  I open the slider, pop open my champagne and wedge my beach chair right in there while I watch the surfers and people hanging out.  Located 20 mins. south of SF, I have driven home to retrieve a forgotten item, even!  Located in a cove, the winds are minimal, and the terrain is exceptional.  From a "Cove View" room, there's only ocean, rocks and rolling green hills to gaze at.  Being "high maintenance", you have room service at your disposal, and a funky, campy beach restaurant right next door with great food and a dance floor   (another review for another time).  Can't say enough about the hotel staff.  They're friendly and helpful with no attitude.  (Be explicit w/ the room service people, though).  I wander down whenever I can afford to do so, and the price is right-  especially weekdays and off season.  Miramar and Half Moon Bay are a few miles down, so do a "tourist in your own town" once in awhile.  You won't be disappointed!

we had a nice stay. their internet access was horrible though. staff was okay. the only thing that got me going was i was asleep in my room and we got a call from the front desk telling us to be quiet or we would be kicked out? overall it was a nice hotel, kinda pricey, but it is right on the ocean.
