5 reviews for Best Western Icicle Inn
Prior to checking in to the hotel, the hotel sent me 2 different emails to confirm as well as to ask if there was anything additional I needed to make my stay more comfortable. Checking in to the hotel was quick & efficient.
The main living area was much smaller than I expected, but they made up for it with the large bedrooms & 2 bathrooms. Since it was Oktoberfest they offered a shuttle to/from the festival for free and a small fee after 1am. For the shuttle being so close, I didn't quite understand the 20min wait time.
The hotel itself was adorable and fitting to the town. They gave us free tokens for the arcade and "Where The Wild Things Are" was playing in the hotel movie theater. Can't wait for next years Oktoberfest to book here again & wake up to a beautiful view of the mountains in the morning!!
Sitting writing this review in our suite here at the Icicle Inn.
Booking was a little messed up, our original booking had been miss entered. Bad marks for that. Check in was prompt - Icicle Inn just on the edge of town, plenty of parking. Usual coupons to dine and play onsite thrown in as sweeteners.
We got a Suite on the second floor - rate was OK given the room. Shower, jetted tub, lots of decent mirrors (++ from my wife for this alone)
In the reasonable-sized furnished lounge area there was a little kitchenette, fridge, microwave, coffeemaker etc. Surprised to see an old-skool TV - they suck juice and room space. Private balcony with a table and couple of chairs topped it off.
Secured but free Wifi signal strength was really good, bandwidth good enough for even a little http://Pandora.com to entertain us.
At this point it sounds like a 4 or 5 star review right? What really sucked about the room - realizing at 1am that we were right next to the icemaker and drink vending machine. Both running loud compressors *all night*. (well at least until I pulled the plug on the loudest machine at about 3:30am)
Given that it was the most expensive rate in the house, placing an icemachine next door is unforgivable.
To add insult to injury, following morning woken up by the almost total lack of soundproofing and our upstairs neighbours running a bath.
I wouldn't stay here again.
I have been going here whenever I stay in Leavenworth since I was a teenager, and I have to admit I am always pleased with the Icicle Inn for the most part.
The check in: Staff is staff, sometimes they are good, sometimes they are bad. However, they have really started some lovely package deals. I recommend going online and looking into them. They will save you some money.
The rooms: I do rather like their suite. I like their jacuzzi it is rather nice. However, watch where you stay and keep away from the pool area. People are loud and rambunctious at night and do not pay attention to curfew or pool closing times.
The breakfast: DELICIOUS. Think a malted waffle maker with delicious syrup that you can use as much as you want. Biscuits and gravy. Pastries. Juice. Toast. Bagels. I think there is hashbrowns, and eggs too but don't quote me, I kinda zero in on the waffles. Warning, one could easily fill you up. Best part? It's FREE!
The restaurant: Good food. One of the better restaurants in Leavenworth. Great service. Good prices, and a cute little train that runs around the top of it. (The breakfast is served here so you can take a peek of the layout).
Location: It is right when you enter Leavenworth, of course, like most of Leavenworth getting out of the parking lot is a pain, but its an easy walk to town, and is a good location.
Entertainment: Pool and hot tub standard. But right on the property is mini golf, a movie theater (the movie theater is small so nothing to write home about), and an arcade. The pros: fun, great for kids. Cons: great for kids so expect some noise in the hotel.
If you want total peace and quiet go for one of the many lodges in Leavenworth, they are really nice too. But if you want a nice room, a great breakfast, great location and some fun choose here.
I'm giving the Icicle Inn 5-stars, not because it's a "5 star hotel", it is just a Best Western, but because there is no reason not to give it 5-stars.
We arrived early on the day of our reservation and our room was ready, so we were able to check in early. The lady who checked us in was
very informative and professional. They even give you a card for a 20% discount to use for your next visit. After we checked in, I took the stairs up to our room since we were only up one floor. If you need an elevator, they have one centrally located near the lobby.
Our room was quite nice. I wouldn't say it was luxurious, but it was spacious and it did have a mini-fridge (empty so we could use it, my preference) and also a microwave.
We had a king-size bed with a ton of pillows. Since I'm a 0-1 pillow user, I ended up putting all the pillows on my side towards the middle of the bed. The bed was very comfy.
The tv was in good working condition, not much different from my tv at home. Maybe a little smaller.
The bathroom was nothing special. The bath was nice enough for a hot bath. The complimentary toiletries did not include any bath gel, so I didn't get to take a bubble bath. Also, the bathroom did not include a hair-dryer, so if that's something that's important to you, bring your own. There was an additional sink/vanity area right outside the bathroom. That is where you will find the coffee maker. They provided packets of Seattle's Best to brew in your room. Nice.
There is a pool and hot tub for guests to use. When I was there (3-17), there was some sort of tent around the pool, leading me to believe they have the pool open and available to use year-round. The hot tub is quite small and bubble jets did not seem to work. Besides that, the hot tub was open and heated and was very nice to sit in late at night.
This property also provides a complimentary European breakfast buffet. It was quite tasty. It included sliced meats and cheese, biscuits and gravy, hard boiled eggs, and waffles, in addition to the typical continental breakfast offerings (cold cereal, toast, juice, etc.).
The Icicle Inn also provides free wi-fi and they had a computer available to use for those who did not have their own with them. I'm not sure if we're just dorks, but we take our laptop with us whenever we travel. That said, we didn't feel the need to bust it out during our stay here, so I cannot report on how reliable the wi-fi is, but I did see some ladies using the free computer down the hall from our room.
There is free parking. Since we came during the off-season and on a Monday, the town was pretty dead. We were able to park along the main strip when we went into "town", but during the busy holiday season, the Icicle Inn is not located that far from the main attraction, so you could walk. There is also a bus that looks like a train that stops by the hotel that goes into the main part of town as well.
I really think for the rate we paid (I get an industry rate, so I may be somewhat partial) we got a great deal. I looked at a few other options for places to stay and this option was by far the best deal. Lower rate and the free breakfast made the Icicle Inn the obvious best choice. I enjoyed my stay so much that I've already made reservations for November.
It was clean, quiet and a great place to sleep.... The air hockey table next door kept us busy til bedtime... The "free" breakfast buffet in the morning was great way to start off the day. Get the waffles... the hard-boiled eggs buried under ice were rubbery!! As long as there's coffee I'm happy.
