I usually stay near SFO when I'm on vacation in the Bay Area and use BART to get into town.

I usually go with the cheapest deal in Expedia and on my last trip, the Best Western Grosvenor came up.

The hotel is less than 5 minutes drive from the rental car centre and it's easy to get onto the 101, 380 and 280 freeways.

I was given a room on the top floor which was great as it minimised the noise. My room was a decent size and the decor was in good repair.

There are 2 computers with internet access for guest use though it was always freezing in the computer room for some reason. I didn't make us of the outdoor pool as there always seemed to be a lot of children in it.

The breakfast was good. 3 hots items were available as well as the usual cereal and bread/bagels.

The surrounding area isn't scenic but what do you expect? See's Candies is right across the road for last minute gifts and the nearest mall, the Shops at Tanforan, is only 5 minutes drive away and the BART station is right behind it.

This hotel fulfilled my needs

Real breakfast, not "continental" as posted by another reviewer. Menu changes daily so a plus if staying multiple days. Free parking does make a difference when in SF. Airport noise minimal, at least in every room we've been in. Have spent a total of at least 14 nights the past two years.

On the minus side: Older hotel in very much need of a freshening up or refurbishment. You get what you pay for and I usually book for between
$80-90 on average, depending on time of year and day(s) of week. Sure, it's not as brand-spankin' new looking as a $190 a night room would be close to downtown, but I only sleep there. I spend my days
in the City.
So far I've never had any reason to not book with them again in the future.

Family Reunion! We decided to stay here for one reason, it was cheap! When we found out there was a breakfast buffet, PLUS....When we found out that it was close to the reception, PLUS...When we found out that it was only 10 mins from the city, PLUS...
We had a group of 8 families and we requested that we all be on the same floor, DONE...The drain in our shower was slow to drain, Done within 30 mins...
I had a few small things that was kinda annoying
1. They have only one luggage cart in the whole hotel, in other words I had to drag up some of our luggage up to the 7th floor, what a drag after a 8 hour drive .
2. The electrical outlets are a few in the room, if your a electronic geek who cant be without a few outlets for camera, laptop, cell phone ect ect ect then be prepared and bring a multitap outlet.
3. Ice machine didnt work on our floor so we had to go down to the 6th floor to get ice, that kinda sucked!
The staff was great, Patty, Joseph and Vernonica at the front desk were awesome...We were looking for a local place to eat so I called down to ask, Joseph told me about a couple places and even mapquested them for me, He didnt have to do that but he did, VERY COOL....
Hey if your looking for a place to lay your head for the night without all the BS of downtown SF then this is your place...

Please do not stay here.  The hotel is old, outdated and smells awful.  I honestly don't feel safe here.  Hallways and stairwells are dark and creepy. A couple of middle aged men are drinking and smoking in the hotel hallway.

The breakfast food is disgusting, the coffee was drinkable until I could make it elsewhere.  My usual hotel is twice the price and even though I am one of the cheapest people in the world, this isn't worth it.  The wireless Internet is completely in and out, half of the tv stations are fuzzy.

Close to freeway and the mall.  I know a lot of people just want to save money and have a place to sleep while they sightsee during the day, but this is not worth it.

Update:
After a another night in this place I feel sick.  Literally.
McSmoker is smoking with hos door open again.  I did take the one towel from the bathroom and use it at the bottom of the door to help block the smell.

I discovered that even with all 4 lights on in here the room is dark.  There is no full lenght mirror in the room, although that is the least of my problems today.

Don't forget your 'breakfast pass'.  They won't let you in without this essential piece of photocopied paper.  God knows someone might try and sneak in for the free prison slop.  Again the coffee was ok, but next to the coffee station there is a BOWL of moist n gooey garbage.  What?  If you have stayed here, you know what I mean.

HOUSEKEEPERS ARE THEIVES!!!

We usually stay downtown, but in an effort to save money this year, we chose the Grosvenor for our trip to work an annual conference in San Fran.

On our last full day, we put $200 cash in our suitcase for safekeeping (there wasn't a safe deposit box in the room and we didn't want to risk carrying the money with us... HA!) and left to work the show. When we returned to the room, it was clean but the money was missing from our suitcase. Not wanting to wrongly accuse anyone, we spent the entire night searching for the missing money and it became quite clear that either a) the money grew legs and walked out, or b) was stolen from the suitcase.

In the morning, we went to speak to the manager to tell him what happened. Jim comes out and we nicely & politely explained the situation to him, and he rudely informs us that their housekeeping staff has been employed there for over 20 years and sorry but the money wasn't stolen. He gave us some dismissive brush-off about us being the first report EVER in the history of Grosvenor to have stolen items from the room... he's sure we misplaced it... he trusts housekeeping 100%. Tough, but as a courtesy he would "look into it, and let us know." It's been three days and still no word from him.

Jim scanters away from the desk. Roberta, a desk worker, immediately steps in and says "You have some room service charges. How do you want to pay for it?" I felt like telling her to use the missing $200 as payment, but being good people, we paid our bill. Roberta says she overheard our talk with the manager and chimed in that she has worked there 36 years and NEVER have they had a report of missing items! It's unheard of there. Again, we hear how housekeeping employees have worked there 20+ years (although our housekeeper that day didn't look a day over 25). Maybe she started when she was 2.

We still cannot believe how we were treated. It was OFFENSIVE. At the very least they could taken some kind of action or even slightly considered that maybe we were burglarized, instead of telling us we were wrong -- goodbye!. WHAT NERVE!

The sad part about it, is up until then we were actually enjoying our stay. Definitely not the nice hotels we usually stay in, but not bad either! This would have been a good review and now it's a complaint pos--the first of many I'm posting on various sites. Then I'm contacting Best Western headquarters as well.

We stayed at this hotel when we wanted to travel for cheap. The room we had was pretty small, but decent. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than staying in the city. It's fairly close to the airport, although we drove up here from So Cal. We didn't have to pay for parking, which was a plus.

It's not too far from the city either. Cheap eats are across the street - McDonald's. There's a continental breakfast, which was decent.

If you like decent and cheap, and have a car, then this place isn't bad at all. Just don't expect much.

During my stay, I was set to rate this hotel at LEAST four stars. I changed my mind before the night was truly over.

I was here for a secret hotel party during the weekend, got the "best" suite in the entire hotel and everything. The room was pretty spacious and I enjoyed the small wet bar tucked away in the corner of the room.

Oh, and when you climb into bed, the pillows are luxuriously comfortable. I wanted to steal one and bring it home with me.

Those are the only positive things that I can truly think of.

What I didn't think was cool:

1. ) The pool closed at 10PM. I wanted some late-night swimming in!

2. ) Hotel staff kept hanging around the hallway and were continuously giving me extremely dirty looks; as though walking through the hallway was offensive to their senses. Pffbth.

3. ) The guy at the entrance doors kept coming up and banging on the door about noise that we weren't even making. We were pretty mellow. And he kept screaming "LAST WARNING! LAST WARNING!" in our faces. What the eff. Get owt.

4. ) When I requested for an extra pillow and blanket for someone who was staying in our hotel room that night, they made me come all the way down to the front desk from the 9th floor to get it myself. What the hell - shouldn't they bring it up themselves? I'm a guest - why am I doing the work YOU'RE supposed to be doing? Not only that, when I reached the front desk, they made me wait for 15 minutes before I actually got what I came to get!

And last but DEFINITELY not least!

5. ) After getting the pillow and blanket, a travel-weary family came in, looking for a vacant room. Their kids looked exhausted to the bone and the poor mother looked ready to pass out. While heading to the elevator to head back upstairs, this is what I heard:

( this was word for word )

MOTHER: "Do you have any extra rooms?"
Front Desk: "No."
MOTHER: "... Not even one? We've been driving all night. We're tired."
Front Desk: "Sorry. No."

( By this time, I was in the elevator and staring at the front desk guy in disbelief. )

MOTHER: "Well, do you know of any hotels nearby who have rooms?"
Front Desk: "No. All hotels have no vacancy. Go somewhere else."

What the HELL?!?!?!

The woman looks at me while I stood there, arms with blanket and pillow and we exchanged this look of utter disgust for how she was being treated. Especially when he was blatantly lying too.

Jeez.

I give the Grosvenor 4 stars, but it's not a 4-star hotel.  It's my go-to place to stay whenever we need a get-away to SF.  An older property, but well kept.  I usually book through Travelocity and have been able to book here in the $65-85 range.  Includes a full breakfast buffet w/ the room.  It's a quick 10-minute drive into the City; worth the drive to avoid the $30 per night parking in the city.

Good value. Rate includes real breakfast (eggs, sausage, etc.).

Clean, spacious room. Few cable channels.

Courteous service desk.

Close to shopping center in San Bruno.

There's a McDonald's across the street, IHOP, Costco, and Houlihan's nearby.

I just spent the night here yesterday with two of my friends . It isn't super duper fancy but it's pretty clean and the hotel bathrooms are nice . The rooms are pretty nice but kind of small . Inside the room , there's a nice big window with a nice curtain , a TV , a computer chair , a bed , a table , and an arm chair . The bathroom inside the room was nice and big . They have nice shower heads that you can move unlike the ones in motels that stay in one place . They also have a little mini coffee maker inside the bathroom which is really cute . My only complaint about this place is their mattress . The mattress was pretty hard , not soft which made it difficult for me to fall asleep . I feel that one of the most important things about hotel rooms is that you can actually fall asleep and relax  so that's why I'm going to minus one star from this place . Also , I don't like those two electric tower things (sorry , I don't know what they're called) outside in the parking lot . It was sprinkling yesterday and the electric tower things kept making noises like it was about to fall on me .  Argghh .. it really scared me . But overall , this is a decent place to stay for the night . The rates are pretty reasonable too @ about $120 for standard rooms & $160 for suites . There's a McDonald's across the street . & there's free parking in the parking lot . Just don't expect their beds to be comfortable .

This hotel is absolutely horrible. It's dirty and noisy. Free parking and breakfast do not make up for the nastiness that is this hotel. Would rate lower if possible. Would not stay here again.
