The hotel I stayed for the whole San Francisco trip.

It was a little difficult to find this location at the first time. Because there was a road construction going on, our GPS couldn't lead us to this hotel at all. Thanks to my iPhone and Google Map, we could get here quick.

This hotel is located right next to U.S 101 Freeway, so it is very convenient to travel anywhere in San Francisco or outside the city. Fishermen's Wharf? Take US 101! Silicon Valley? Take US 101. See?

Check-in time was 3pm, but we got there at 12pm. Lisa, a very nice and smiley employee, let us check in that early and answered my stupid questions like "Do you guys have free breakfast?" The employees were so nice even they let my friend park in their parking lot. :)

I had a good deal with this hotel using http://priceline.com(Again.!!) And for the price, this hotel is very nice and good enough.

Hotel room was a bit smaller than I thought. Maybe because last time I stayed at Marriott. Nice bathroom, big TV, queen size bed, and comfortable sofa. We didn't have kitchen, but coffee maker was enough for us.(we were not going to cook anyways. :P )

Free breakfast was ok. They had yogurt, bagel, fried eggs, waffle, bread, coffee, tea, etc. Again, it was less then those from Marriott, but for the price it was still good enough.

Only one bad thing. At night, the parking lot is not enough. If you come in late, you have to park on the street..

this is a pretty decent hotel. it is very clean and there is good staff there. the front desk lady was nice and prompt. our room was really clean and had all of the amenities: fridge, microwave, blow dryer, coffee pot, tv, wireless internet...
i liked all of the vending and soda machines. there was a business center, sauna and small gym...all of which i had no time to use, but nonetheless it was there.
make sure to mention AAA if you have it...the discount makes the room rate really affordable.
only recommendation: better tv?? watching people with orange faces brought me back to the antenna on top of the tv days...!

I have to say that when you are going for a no thrills place, the only thing that keeps a place from being a dump is being clean and staff.  Upon check in, the first representative was fine, but Linda who came on the second shift felt in my mind was incredibility rude, lacked basic customer service skills and would be better suited not interacting with customers.

The first interaction was when I asked for two towels.  "You only get one.  The company policy will only give you one".  No smile, no oh I'm sorry the very small towels were meant not to not fit around your body  (side note - 32 inch pants).  I was not asking for a concierge, but i would have been willing to tip if it meant I get to cover myself on the way from my room to the hot tub.

But people who hide behind policy are annoying to me and I wanted to keep quite about asking about corporate policy and face piercings (do the pegs going through her cheeks into her mouth connect on the inside?).

Moving on... plus I found towels on a maid cart.  :)

But problems came when I ran to my car for a book with the two towels around my waist and another one around my chest (could not help but take more than two, once I heard there was towel shortage).  There were not guest around but once I came back in the lobby, I heard, "Sir, you are indecent and we can not have naked people walking around".  I was amazed!

At this point, I was so pissed, first no towels, then complaining about going from my room, to my car to the hot tub in towels, I wanted to ask for a refund and hit a nicer place down the street.  During the little downtime that I have, the last thing I need is a front desk clerk on a power trip.

I asked for her manager's name, Dan and got Linda's name.  She could not care if I felt bothered by her treatment.  She said, we have camera's and how do we know that you have a swimsuit under your towel?

Whatever... when the building is on the same street as six other hotels.  I would suggest spending $30 more and go to a place where the service is more focused on the customer and not policy.  Check out: Hilton Garden Inn San Mateo or Marriott San Mateo.  Please, let's not support a business that employees people that treat their guest like this.  Give them a towel if they ask for it and if they are on the way to the hot tub, don't think they might be naked (I know I am cute, but dang keep those thoughts to yourself).

When I took the CA bar exam at the San Mateo Expo Center, a friend and I stayed at this hotel, which is about 3 miles or 10 minutes from the venue. We ended up paying about $315 for three nights, which is significantly less than what they charge over at the Marriott (and not that much further from the venue).

I thought that this place was a great value, and it was a pleasant stay. My only complaint is that the walls are a bit thin, so we could hear our next-door neighbor watching TV or talking on the phone. However, it seemed like everyone staying there was there for the bar exam, so it tended to be pretty quiet after 10pm.

I would certainly recommend this place for people who are in San Mateo for the California bar exam.

Clean/big-enough room, clean lobby, good front desk service, decent continental breakfast, few cable channels, decent rates. Book online and save around $15.
