3 reviews for Best Western Center City
Good location. This is an old hotel that has been renovated but its...well its still an old crappy hotel.
There is a little sports bar downstairs and a Wawa across the street.
My only real complaint was that it was humid outside and as a result the room was really uncomfortable. The window didnt open enough to make a difference and no matter what we did the vent was blowing hot air into our room. As a result our room was extremely humid and uncomfortable. The beds were actually not that bad. Had the AC worked I would of been pleased as this place is basically the only cheap hotel around this part of the city.
Lastly, I have read a lot of reviews that say this is a bad part of town and in this hotels defense anyone who thinks this is a bad part of town must have never been to a city before. There is a police station across the street and the area is extremely well kept and clean. The hotel itself is actually the crapiest building in the entire area, and really its not that bad. Staff was pretty nice. We got back so late I did not even ask them to fix the AC because we were in our room for about 4-5 hours. Parking was ample and when we were there (halloween) the hotel was totally booked.
I would stay here again and I would of given this place 3 stars had the climate control system not been busted.
Going to any major city and staying anywhere near downtown can be expensive. The quality and price vary greatly. This hotel is right in the middle of downtown and right on the low end of quality.
When we arrived the room was clean. The beds were more or less comfortable and the TV got a respectable number of channels. They gave us a roll-away bed right away. The shower had hot water and there was even free internet. In short, all the essentials that you would associate with a mainstream hotel were there. But that is all the praise I can give.
The hotel clerk always looked like she had something better to do. The sink was clogged and drained very slowly, even after someone from maintenance came. The shower drain wasn't much better. The lights flickered and all throughout the hotel there was an overwhelming since of decay. I was a little worried about my safety at times.
But the price was right, which may be all that matters.
So what kind of traveler are you????
1) Are you a bit of a snob who likes to spend over $150 a night to guarantee a decent night's stay?
2) Or are you cut from a much cheaper cloth, the type who will stay in any old room, as long as it doesn't look like someone recently died or filmed something risque there?
If you are Traveler #2, then this hotel is a totally acceptable way to stay right near the heart of the action (museums, bars, restaurants, etc) without paying a boatload. The rooms are totally fine, the shower pressure is awesome, cabs are always waiting out front, and there's a Wawa right across the street!
However, if you even have the slightest bit of Traveler #1 in you, do not stay here. The halls are gross, the elevators are slower than molasses, the architecture is ugly, and the intangibles are awful at best.
I think of myself as someone who can rough it, if need be, so I guess I'd stay here again!
