I've stayed here 3 times and never had a problem. It's quiet, clean and unlike the other Best Western (which is 2x-3x more $) reasonably priced.
It's just across the street from the Marina State Beach and dunes (2 minute walk). Marina beach is a very long beach with usually few people.
The hotel staff were friendly and since I like to swim at the beach they gave me as many towels as I wanted.
The breakfast had coffee, OJ, apple juice, 3 kinds of milk, 3 kinds of cold cereal, hot cereal, hard boiled eggs, english muffin, two kinds of bread, 4 kinds of muffins... although it ran from 6am-9am and I got there always after 8:30 there was plenty (they restock during breakfast), if not then just ask.
I didn't try the pool or jacuzi, I never do since all public pools have to have chlorine, but those using them seemed to like them.
The price was unbeatable... I'd stay here again rather than one of the high-priced other hotels. I never eat lunch or dinner in them anyway.
From March, 2007: Would not stay here again - the room was dark, dated, there were holes in the towels, a dirty towel left on the back of the door when we arrived, cereal under the bed, and one of the washcloths was extremely dingy (had someones makeup all over it, yet still washed and folded for us to "use"). The room was very dark, and off season it was still pretty pricey for being well outside of Monterey.
The contenental breakfast was extremely disappointing. Watery juice in dixie cups, coffee, one type of cereal (which looked like kids had had their hands all over it), plain oatmeal, white wonderbread, and (very unhealthy-looking) muffins.
This hotel is near, but not on the beach. You can walk down the road to reach the dunes park, but don't expect any views of the beach or walking right out on one. That's the other Best Western down the highway.
And yes - it was pretty cheap. But seriously, I expect at least a fairly clean room without "leftovers" - no matter how cheap...
