We stayed here overnight on our way to Kirkwood. It's halfway between KW and the bay area, so it acts as a nice overnight point for those who don't want to do a day trip from the bay.
The hotel rooms are a steal for ski season, and are well kept with firm beds and decent amenities. They also offer free breakfast buffet at the Denny's across the street for those who stay (warm eggs, bacon, sausage plus OJ, coffee and tea). I would've rated it higher if it wasn't for the lingering smoke scent in the room and sheets even though we were in a non-smoking room. I noticed cigarettes on the balcony outside - must've made its way into the room somehow.
I'm likely to book a different place next time, only because of the smoky room.

Hall and room smelled like smoke. No chair for the desk. No remote for the TV. Two pillows. Small bed. two towels... asked for more...front desk said they would send someone. No one came.
Redneck, toothless wonder showed up w/ naked kids to swim in pool. Obviously locals.
Will never stay here again!

Free WI-FI!!! How awesome is this! We are staying here this weekend for my brother's birthday to go panning for gold and hiking. Its a really nice Best Western....quiet, clean and friendly. The Dennys next door has been a lifesaver since this small town doesn't have anything open late at night. I agree with everything David S. mentioned! We are looking forward to exploring the area today. Also this motel is a short distance from Jackson Rancheria Casino.

This is a nice hotel right off of Hwys 88 and 49, If you don't feel like driving all the way to Tahoe, just stop in Jackson, it's only halfway (from the bay area). Micro and refrig. in the rooms, a big plus. Many rooms have fireplaces, I had one in mine. There's a Denny's right next door, and a Safeway across the street, and a few nice restaurants on Main St. and also on Hwy 49 (Mountain Mike's Pizza, for ex.). If you go, check out the Old Gold Mine (now a Museum) and the Miners cemetary, it's what makes Jackson famous.
