So, hot on the trail of the Best Western in Barstow (2 stars) came the Adobe Inn... So, no surprise that the staff are incompetent, though I will admit much more willing to offer assistance.  Still, when you want to take a bath and you can't stop the water running down the drain, that's a problem.   No fridge or microwave or HBO... we learn from the guys tail-gating outside our back door that those things are happenstance depending on the room you get.  Overall, pleasant  human beings make up for a shitty environment, hence the 2.5 **.
