Review from Krista Y.
San Diego, CA
I work at a hotel and this place was good for what it was. It is by no means great, and if it cost any more than 50 bucks a night then their star-age would be much less. Just saying.
The room is pretty spacious, but it is not taken advantage of. There is no furniture other than the bed to sit on while watching television. The layout is awkward, as the television is not centered in front of the bed and the dresser, desk, and fridge are all lined up along one wall. I am not sure what I was expecting, but it just looked... odd. It didn't look as though everything was placed as it should be. America's Best Value Inn needs some redecorating!
The shampoo packets that they leave are impossible to open, while the soap is easy to open, but is thrown away every day which seems pretty wasteful to me! If I was them, I would leave another open one and if people are so ridiculous that they cannot use the same bar of soap more than once then they are free to open a new one.
The "continental breakfast" that is advertised is pathetic. There is coffee in the lobby all the time and it actually was pretty delicious. The first day tere were 2 pre bagged danishes left while the second day there were 4 with the saddest apples I have ever seen in my life. They were about the size of a golf ball. No bacon here, Jennie P!
And, related to Jennie's post, the parking is pretty dumb and a billion point turn is necessary if you want to escape Watsonville. Thanks for the free wifi America's Best Value Inn! I did not use it but I am glad you didn't charge. -

I was looking for a place to stay because I'm a local and our power went out. My friend recommended this place because online it was listed at $41/night for a single. When I got there at 9pm on a Wednesday the lobby was locked so I rang the doorbell. A man came and let me in. He said that he'd never heard of that rate and it was $55/night. I left and called my friend.
My friend said he would book it online so I could get the rate. It was about $46 with tax. I went back to the hotel, this time to the night window. A lady was standing there. I couldn't hardly hear her through the hole in the window. I told her I'd made a reservation online and I had the confirmation number. She said, without checking anything but merely a backward glance toward the desk, that nothing had come in yet so there's nothing she could do. So she left me out in the wind, didn't even invite me in the lobby.
Then I proceeded to watch her go check the computer, taking her sweet time. Then the man showed up and started looking through stuff. My friend called to yell at them. Finally the man made the woman let me inside. Then he was all nice about it and took care of me. But the woman looked pissed that I was let inside and my friend said she'd been yelling the entire time he'd been on the phone. We got the feeling she'd be happiest if all guests would just drop dead.
I parked and went in my room, which was sad but at least there was a fridge and a microwave. I had to unplug the fridge because it was too loud. There was an old tube TV with a layer of dust on the screen. I didn't use it. The phone looked like it had never been cleaned, with crud on it. I had to use it to call the front desk because you needed a log-in for the wifi and that information wasn't printed anywhere. I pressed the Front Desk button but that led to someone at corporate who directed me to press 0. Luckily they told me right away how to use the Internet.
I went to use the bathroom and could see that the toilet seat was awful. Old and cracked, they needed a new one. The sink hadn't been cleaned. The fixture was disgusting and there was facial hair all over the place. I had to clean it up myself.
At about 1am the power went out due to the wind storm. Also, people started showing up in the driveway talking loudly and playing music and slamming doors. That went on throughout the night. When I woke up I found beer cans outside my room.
I got up at 8:30am, starving, and went to the lobby for continental breakfast. It was locked but I could see through the window that there was no breakfast laid out, not even a banana. Nothing. The counter was bare. Also, no one would answer the door, even if I knocked or rang the doorbell, so no newspaper either, even though they were on the counter.
I went back to my room to call the lobby but the phone was dead cause of the power outage. I used my cell but no one answered, presumably because of the power outage. When I left there was no way to contact anybody working there.
I had a horrible experience at this hotel. Probably would have done better sleeping in my car. -

We were only here for maybe 6 hours just to sleep before having to get up for the Wharf to Wharf event. The room itself was clean and surprisingly really roomy! We had plenty of space to walk around and not feel cramped.
Parking, however was a bit tight. There's only one way out, so prepare to make 895347 point turns when getting out.
Continental breakfast didn't start until 7am. We headed out around 6:25am. BOO. But I did smell bacon. Just sayin! -

Clean and neat enough.
After this, I made my gf go to mass at St Patricks, in spanish. Couldn't understand a thing. There's a clothing store with some v. cool Mexican cowboy gear.
Watsonville - sounds like a redneck town, but most of the signs here in Watsonville are in spanish, some are in English. We stumbled on a church fate. All of the young ones spoke English, but not many of the stall holders. Managed to win a glass by tossing a coin into it. What a nice bunch of folks.
Next stop was Monterey, then Carmel further south on highway one.
