Review Highlights
Pleasant experience with getting a silk dress hemmed. Its the first time I've ever seen the white powder pump machine used to mark the hem. She paid attention to detail and has my dress ready in a week. The cost was $35 which is about right based on previous experiences.
I have not had to get more complicated alterations yet but based on other reviews, I am confident they can do a good job.

At 5'8" I'm a little short for most pairs of nice jeans. I brought a pair in to be hemmed. Measurements taken, jeans hemmed in a week. I looked at before/after pictures and they did a pretty good job of emulating the stitching.
Not sure where the $15 price ranks but I'm definitely comfortable with bringing expensive pairs of jeans here for work.
Service remains excellent. I come back again and again because Best Fit is fantastic. I had a dress fitting yesterday for a bridesmaid dress, and was once again impressed with the professionalism and high quality of work. They can get your job done quickly and perfectly.

I brought my wedding dress to Best Fit and they did a excellent job with the alterations. The dress has significant beading and needed to be taken in quite a bit.
The seamstress offered helpful suggestions on how to bustle the gown as well as how to store the dress until the big day. It only took three fittings and they always were prepared and professional.
The cost for my alterations were very reasonable, about $300, considering the work and I would recommend Best Fit to anyone.
Like Julie, I got my dress at the Filene's Basement running of the brides sale for $250. But allow me to digress for a moment. I saw a fabo Manuel Mota sample dress at L'Elite on Valentine's Day. I was sure the stars were aligned and the price was right so I would get it. Unfortunately, it was about 4 sizes too small, but no biggie according to the cute lady at L'Elite, we can fix it up. Sure, we can fix it up for $1000 in alterations. Ew. No thanks.
Filene's Basement sale to the rescue! However, dress is a lil snug. Upon a recommendation from a friend who had Ludmila make her dress from scratch, I went to see the Russian seamgoddess and she made the dress fit perfectly for a very reasonable price. All of the beading was saved, and the elegant design remained.

My new tailor! I've only had a couple of interactions with these ladies but so far I don't have any complaints. While they mostly do dresses and other women's apparel they happily took in my jeans when I needed them hemmed. The space is conveniently located on Newbury street (look for the Mayan Weavers sign, its not them but they are in the same building). They have a large area for sizing and two very large dressing rooms. They are quick and efficient.
My hems only took 1 week and they only charge $15 dollars for simple things. They aren't the friendliest but I'm going there to get clothes fixed, not make friends. I will be bringing them all my tailoring from now on.
Just FYI. Best FIT is CASH or CHECK only! I learned that when I had to run down the street to Sovereign bank to get $100 in cash to pay my bill.
However, it was worth it! The dress was on time. They also did a marvelous job with the bustle. Now I know for sure that my dress won't drag through the mud.
They quickly showed my bridesmaid, Emma D. how to tie the bustle -- Just a series of three quick and secure ties that hide underneath the dress. The bustle (when tied) magically gathers up in beautiful ways. Totally worth $65 -- I also purchased a garment bag for $20 that will keep my dress lovely and clean until the Wedding.

I can't criticize their work, but I certainly don't think that their pricing is fair. For a hem, bustle, and taking in, I paid almost $400, which was substantially more than the wedding dress itself. I should have gotten the dress tailored at David's Bridal, where they said the hemming would cost $30 for taking off and reapplying the appliqué at the hem. There were comparably good reviews for tailors who charged substantially less. You pay for the Newbury St. location - they have a nice second story, sunlit changing room, good service, and personalized attention.
5 Reasons to go to Best Fit for alterations:
1. Convenient Newbury Street location
2. Reasonable Prices
3. "Old School" feel and personal attention
4. Spacious changing area with privacy curtain
5. They make neat stitches and careful work

The dress was amazing! I feel it was well worth the 75 dollars I had to dish out. It was like a whole new dress and fit like a glove. I'll be going to them in the future for any and all dress alterations.

I had an emergency (all of my jeans had holes in the crotch zone)
i kept putting it off, but i needed to have them done before i left for LA which was 3 days later. The lady said she would have it done but since i had to put a rush on the order it would cost extra (duh). Everything was great and finished promptly. I cant ever seem to find it when i want to take in more things.

So, I had a disaster of a time with my wedding dress. I went to Yolanda's (boooh) and they ordered a dress that was a veritable tent on me when it arrived (with the explanation that it was safer to order large because it's easier to take a dress in than let it out). Of course they kindly offered their tailoring services to me at an exorbitant price.
Not unlike Amy Winehouse, I said "No, no, no" and went to find a different tailor. I'd read good things about Best Fit and decided to give them a go.
I was greeted by a small warm space on Newbury street with two woman running around speaking Russian back and forth at each other while hemming and pinning and doing all sorts of sewing type things. It felt very nice and homey and I decided to go with them.
They had to take the dress in a considerable amount, including moving seams and doing all sorts of crazy seamstressy stuff I have no idea about. To put it bluntly, it became more of a work of architecture than simply bringing the dress in a bit. I think we could've made a spare dress with the material left over.
Considering all the work they did, I found their pricing to be very competitive. They got everything done in time, and the dress looked flawless. They even reshaped the bodice part of it so that it would be more flattering to my figure as opposed to the original design, which I thought was fantastic and fell into the category of going above and beyond.
HOWEVER, the only reason I am not giving them a full 5 stars is because day of the wedding, my dress started losing buttons. This is not to say I suddenly gained weight and was popping them...my dress had a zipper back that was covered by one of those faux button panels that ran the length of the dress through the train. They weren't secured properly, so in the end I was sort of like Hansel and Gretel, leaving a train of buttons wherever I went.
But, again, considering the massive work they did on the dress, on a tight timeline, for a good price, I can't hold it against them that much, and would go back if I needed something else altered.
They also did my bridesmaids dress and it came out flawless.

The history: I bought my wedding gown at a sample sale at L'Elite, and I didn't want to get it tailored there because they took in my bridesmaid dress for my bro's wedding and I had a really hard time communicating with the L'Elite tailoring staff. That is, I said, "I am flat chested and I like it that way, and I am not wearing a stuffed bra to fit this ridiculous boning that sits about 5 inches away from my flesh." I thought I was loud and clear, but they left the boning in and told me to stuff my bra. Needless to say, I was not keen on getting my kickass wedding gown done there, so I went over to Best Fit. Ludmyila and her assistant went over every seam with a fine-tooth comb, not actually but they looked over the whole thing and came up with a plan. Then they let me weigh in on what I thought, and we ended up agreeing on some pretty complex work. They had to take in the corset top in addition to fitting the rouching (sp) - after all was said and done, the dress was gorgeous, I posted a photo of the buslte on my profile.
It was not cheap, but they listened to me and responded to my comments with their own feedback about my ideas, and they did the alterations as promised, communication was awesome (huge points for that!!!), and the work was beautifully executed.

I took two dresses to Best Fit that 3 other tailors told me they could not do because they did not have a machine for 'invisible zippers.' The ladies at Best Fit looked at my dresses and immediately noticed they could not take the dresses in over the zippers because it would create an awkward bump at the bottom of the zipper, they altered both using the darts on the dresses and they look absolutely fantastic. The dresses took a few weeks, but I dropped them off right before the holidays and was in no rush to pick them up because I was out of town. I tried on the dresses when I picked them up and they fit perfectly! They are not cheap, I think I paid around $80-90 total for 2 dresses, but it was definitely worth it.
highly recomend. I had jeans shortened here and kept the original hem. I have one leg thats longer than the other and the tailor spent extra time making sure the measurements were correct. Also I wanted them longer, however, the tailor indicated that because they are a little narrower in the lower leg they shouldn't be made too long- she was right. finished product is perfect. they were easy and pleasant to deal with. I will use them again.
It's like stepping into my grandma's living room every time I bring a pair of pants to be hemmed. She takes care of it lickety split and is so sweet and polite. Once she even advised me that a $5 fix would be a better bet than refitting an entire dress bodice for much more $$. Very real and honest, so I keep going back!

I went to Best Fit with a bridesmaid dress in need of some serious tailoring, and while the work was first class and done to suit my tight schedule, I did find the prices to be high. It is Newbury Street, I suppose. The dressing area is nicely appointed, and I can definitely see this being a completely appropriate and worry-free place for brides to go for alterations to their fancy wedding dresses. It's clean, and so is the craftsmanship. Word to the wise: negotiate your price, and don't always take the first quote as the final one.

My first experience with Best Fit was right before my high school prom. I had found a dress that I liked but it was two sizes too big so I brought it in to be altered. I wasn't sure exactly what needed to be done to make the dress look right but as soon as I tried it on, the Best Fit team took out their tools and pinned it up until it looked better than I could have hoped for. The very next morning, the dress was ready to be picked up and fit like a glove - they made look so good that I wear it to this very day! Four years later and I am still a loyal customer at Best Fit. Most of my items require a quick fix (such as hemming the bottoms of skinny jeans while keeping the original stitching) but others take a level of skill that I have only seen here. When my cousin got married last October, she picked out a bridesmaid dress that I didn't instantly love. It was floor length and I am accustomed to wearing dresses that fall above my knees so I asked the Best Fit staff to shorten it to my usual length. While they did not reject my proposal, they showed me how this particular dress would look at knee-length and we all agreed that it looked better as a long dress. As soon as I came in with the heels that I planned to wear to the wedding, the Best Fit team hemmed the dress to just the right length where it flowed elegantly to the ground but I could still dance and move without any hassle. As a devoted customer for over 4 years, I would highly recommend Best Fit to everyone!
