the #12 asian veggie (make it vegan w/no mayo!) has been rocking my world lately. the fresh bread and yummy spicy veggies make my tummy do somersaults.
not the cleanest place i have ever been in but friendly service and people are doin' their thang - i'll definitely be back for more sammiches and to oogle the bread in fun animal shapes. -

This place is awesome. I love Banh Mi (Vietnamese Sandwiches) and Best Baguette hits the spot.
The restaurant offers fast food style service, including a drive thru pick-up window. Prices are excellent (a little more than $2/sandwich).
The size of these things are massive - like 12 inches long. The variety of sandwich meats and fillings are good, the meat is well seasoned and moist, and the bread is freshly baked daily. The menu also offers bubble tea, smoothies, and Vietnamese coffee and Thai Tea.
During my last visit to Best Baguette, I ordered the Vietnamese tacos. These are essentially the same as Korean Tacos, but with marinated and grilled Banh Mi meat instead. The tacos were kind of expensive (like $4 or something I think), but they were BOMB!
I don't eat here too frequently because once I saw a rat run from the bushes in the front of the parking lot to the back of the restaurant. That kind of turned me off. -

The sandwiches are delicious, and were very cheap.
The food isn't SPECTACULAR though, its just good for the price you pay.
I wish there was one closer by. -

I used to love Best Baguette, but over the years the sandwich has shrunk. I now refuse to eat here, because of my last experience. The last three times I went, I ordered extra vegetables and asked for them to put it in the sandwich. Last week, I went and ordered a #1 with extra vegetables on the inside. I was told that they couldn't do that, because the vegetables wouldn't fit. I informed the guy that they were able to put it in before, and politely asked why it wasn't possible this time. He goes on to tell me that they actually HADN'T been putting any extra vegetables inside. Excuse me? I've been charged each and every single time, and now you're telling me I didn't even get what I paid for?
Again, I politely let the guy know what had happened. His response? "Yeah." Absolutely no apology. It is only about 20 cents extra for extra vegetables, but I was appalled at how they handled the situation. Best Baguette has terrible customer service, and I'm never coming back. Who knows what else they've been charging me for? Honestly, Portland has many, many other great restaurants/shops with Banh Mi and there is no reason for me to waste my money here.
Side note: I still have my receipt, and apparently Chong served me. -

Drivethru service is horrible. They've gotten my order wrong on several occasions because there's a definite Lang barrier. Food is good though but I recommend going inside in order to get what you want right the first time.

Okay so first things first. I have been to both locations of Best Baguette. I visited both of them within a 24 hour period of time. The 82nd + Powell location in my opinion is much better than the Hall Blvd location in Beaverton which I just finished eating at a mere few hours ago.
1. The bread is as fresh as it gets.
2. Prices are between $2.30 and $5.95 for a sandwich
3. Bubble tea here is pretty good, but sweeter tasting than other boba places
4. Staff are friendly and helpful
5. Atmosphere is bright and cheery with delicious bakery smells
I would definitely come back here. I had the Grilled Pork Sandwich and my accomplice had the Grilled Beef Sandwich.
We also purchased a gift card for a friend. I don't think they sell very many as it took them a while to get it for us.
Great snack joint and very affordable. -

Giving Subway a well-deserved forearm shiver and a kick in the seat, to boot.....
Really though. Such a diverse menu, most of the items hover around the $3 mark, though many are a whopping $3.50. Still beats Subway all to heck. Some great sammies, can't wait to check out more of their menu, the meatball was very good, so was the bacon and egg, the veggie, and particularly loved their anchovie, as well as their beef. I, along w/ apparently every other yeep in review, loved their home-cooked bread--crisp and light on the outside, fluffy and soft on the inside. Perfect! Also. When they say spicy, they actually deliver the goods, so bully for them. No weaknesses yet discovered in their menu as is, it's just too bad they don't offer Pho', and aren't open late! From me, that's one of the highest compliments you can get...
Love love LOVE that they have a drive through, and hope theirs is a model that will catch on w/more of these Asian fusion establishments...
Merci beau coup mon petit chou' Baguette! -
Review from Cora P.
Good solid Banh Mi for the going price of "cheaper than WTF", but I definitely recommend going with take-out. The dining area leaves much to be desired. And, while I don't advocate for drive-through very often, there's something kind of cool about being able to get drive-by baguettes, with or without meaty fermented things inside.

Two thumbs up for this mom and pops. The bread that they served are always fresh and delicious. Prices are comparatively really low. Healthier than fast food at decent prices.

Very tasty sandwiches, and really cheap! Good coffee too. This place is at the top of my "I'm hungry and want something cheap and fast" list for lunch. Definitely worth checking out.

I want to disclaimer the last boy I dated was pretty much a liar (side note: google anyone you date before you date them - college degree, patents, rap sheets, foreclosures - heh), but it stuck in my head how many times he reiterated Best Baguette was the bomb. I should have known that not only meant delish, but cheap (food grastronomically I should have only taken his word there - heh). Seriously, this place is divided in Vietnamese and French goodness. The new boy said go to la Provence and I thought I am going to check it. It is now our new place for to go breakfeast in fall bed.
First, all ban Mih sandwhiches are pretty much 2.75 or less. Star one. French savory and sweet coissaints are a flaky perfect marvel. We had the ham and cheese 2.75 and cheese dessert danish for a buck.
Did I mention drive thru as well?
I mean French vietnamese iced coffee only, kind of wish warm caffeine as well, but I get it culturally. But why is there no Starbuck's East of 39th and Powell?
PS Don't let the 7-Eleven strip mall charm of So. Cal fool you! -

CHEAP, DELICIOUS banh mi. They have drive-through! They have all sort of other sweet stuffs and the bubble tea! My parents love to go here and they introduced me to this place. We've been here more times than I can count.
I've tried another place that sold banh mi but sorry, no contest.
Location is my only con since I don't live nearby, plus the traffic jam around the area is a turn-off but when I do pass by the area. I'm braving those jams. -

Portland, OR
I have refrained from going here for awhile now based on the looks from the outside, it looks like a fast food restaurant. While I am not opposed to fast food, something about a Vietnamese sandwich from a fast food place never seemed appealing. But yesterday a friend of mine convinced me to try it as we were looking for food in the area. I have to say it wasn't all bad.
I got the vegetarian sandwich. First off, the sandwiches are a lot larger than prior Vietnamese sandwiches I have had, this is obviously a plus for a man with an appetite like mine. As for how it tasted, it was decent. I did have a problem with getting large chunks for cilantro, but besides that a pretty solid sandwich.
The big draw back for me was how the place looked. It was extremely dirty in there, unorganized, just kind of an all around sloppy place. I didn't feel comfortable eating there, in fact I couldn't wait to get out of there. I was just so hard to eat in a place that was so dirty. So if you find yourself making a stop here, I would recommend going thru the drive thru. -

I pass by this place on my daily commute to work. It always seems like the drive through is busy, no matter what time day it is, so I figured that was a good sign.
I'm usually running late to work, so never had an opportunity to go in the morning, but when heading home from work with a growling tummy, I decided to put my curiosity about this place to rest once and for all. Of course my eyeballs were bigger than my stomach, but when I told the guy at the counter that it was my first time into their establishment, he quickly suggested I try "The #4" Which was a pork banh mi sandwich. Priced at $3.25, it was a steal! I loved everything about it. The meat was marinated in some blend of Vietnamese spices my palate could not decipher, and was topped with pickled onions and carrots, and cilantro. The baguette was crunchy and chewy, which in my opinion makes a delicious sandwich!
I also got an iced milk coffee, which was average. But gave me the caffeine boost I needed. If you find yourself driving down 82nd avenue and want to steer clear of the per usual fast food joints, I suggest you drop by this place, your mouth and stomach will thank you. -

mmm. yummy yummy yummy. I love bahn mi. Do not be fooled by the chainy looks of this place.
I usually get a bbq pork bahn mi with extra veggies, no jalapenos. Then I put that weird salty msg sauce on it that they have up front. Sometimes they need to go a little easier on the mayo, but usually it is just absolutely perfect.
THE BREAD is what makes this place REALLY super awesome. -
Review from Kori S.

First, best french bread in the state! We often swing through the drive through and pick up 2 or 3 loaves to take home. Banh Mi are a bit inconsistent in quality. Sometimes the pork is full of fat, sometimes not. Sandwiches are quite big and come with plenty of veggies and jalapeno's. Maggi or Sriracha adds to the enjoyment. Great value for the price.
Hands down the best Almond Croissant you can buy. Pure flaky goodness. -

I drove by this restaurant during my last trip to Portland, and decided to give it a try. This was the best banh mi I've ever had! I liked the food there so much I went back 3 times during my 4 day stay in Portland!
Whenever I go back to Portland, I will absolutely drive by for a grilled pork banh mi! -

There are some great asian bakeries in this neighborhood, and Best Baguette is one of my favorites. It's cheap, fast, and delicious. The service is always extremely friendly (both drive through and in person), and they have a nice variety of items on the menu. These people know what they are doing!

This place is awesome.
Full disclosure, it was only a few short weeks ago that i had no idea what a 'banh mi' was. Now, I am hooked. Delicious house made french bread, soft on the inside and crusty on the outside. Perfectly cooked roasted meats. Pickled vegetables. Fresh Cilantro. Pate!
I can't underestimate how good the sandwiches are here. But, perhaps even more impressive, are the prices. The sandwiches are so cheap that my wife and i seriously considered getting 3 or 4 to split. Absolutely no need. We got 2 sandwiches and split a bubble tea and were barely able to finish the meal.
The atmosphere offers the perfect no frills place to either grab a sandwich to go or plop down for a quick lunch. The place is almost hidden on the corner of 82nd and Powell. We probably would have never found it if it was not recommended by a friend. But they were pretty busy when we went so I would imagine that this place is no secret.
Super great stuff here. -

This place is consistently good, cheap and fast turnaround on the sandwiches. I think the grilled chicken it my fav. I've also tried the asian veggie sandwich which is actually mostly tofu and rice noodles. Go figure, it's worth trying and it's a good veggie option, vegan even? ? Overall this place is great, the veggies, cilantro, sri racha and magi really make these sandwiches awesome. All for around 3$ too.
Bubble tea here was not the greatest, but overall, I'm a fan. -

I love bahn mi. In fact I remember one summer when I was on a personal mission to find the best bahn mi in Seattle, however this is Portland so I'll stay on track.
I came here to grab a sandwich and iced cafe sua to fuel my drive home to Seattle. My friend lives just a few blocks away and was raving about these sandwiches (as this is his first bahn mi experience) so we went together. I got the grilled chicken -yep it was good -nothing overly special but good. I'll be back to grab this sandwich/coffee combo again on my next return home from Portland
I love Bahn mi -

Review from Kate N.
This is my favorite banh mi in PDX. Banh mi is a Vietnamese baguette sandwich. The baguette is the only good thing besides café that the French left us before they got kicked out.
Sandwich #1 is the original. I love the bread, the head cheese, different cold cuts of pork, the pâté, aioli, and pickled carrots and daikons. The secret to a good banh mi is actually the pâté. And I do love the pâté there. It makes the sandwich so flavorful and rich --- the strong garlic aroma mixed with creamy rich pork livers. No cheese needed. #4 is a grilled pork sandwich and is a safe bet for those not used to Vietnamese cold cuts.
This place is a real bargain at $3.25 for a foot long. For refreshment, there is bubble tea. Another bonus is the drive thru.
Good, fast and inexpensive food that isn't fast food? At this place you'll get it! -
Review from Victoria O.
Portland, OR
SERIOUSLY. What the hell. One of the best sandwiches I've ever stuffed my face with. Being a vegetarian I only get one option, but boy what an option it is. I don't even care. I'd eat a #12 everyday if my waistline could handle it. It's over a foot long here people, a foot long of WTFYUM.
Also, bubble tea! Yum! Mine seemed to be a little on the sweet side but it could have just been the flavor I chose and was still amazing.
I went through the drive-thru and it was really weird. The guy at the window barely cracked the window enough the pass the receipt, change, and food through and I don't think he said anything but "thank you" to me at the end of the transaction. I don't feel like I look like a threatening person, but whatever. I guess I'll go in next time.
And here's the kicker, all this cost me around $5. Eat your heart out Subway, I'm never coming back. BB forever! -

Hands down, the best three dollar sandwich I have ever had!
I have tried the dim sum a few times and, that really left a lot to be desired. Ill be sticking to the #12 and a Thai Iced Tea Boba -

I forget how good and cheap this place is, until I am holding one of those flaky, buttery, taste explosions in my head.
I would go inside and sit-but lets face it, I never do. Drive through #2 please! Personally, I think the BBQ Pork is the best. but the veggie has been good, as the chicken. They use to have a shrimp sandwhich, sadly its been gone from the menu for awhile..
But for under $5, I can get a tasty sandwhich and a iced coffee? Sounds like heaven to me. -
Review from Erin K.
In the past, I have eaten the Asian subs (YUM!) and this time I branched out to try some French ones, and I won't be trying that again. To sum it up, the Asian ones deserve a 5 star rating, but the French ones would get 2 stars... it's just a lot of cold cuts and underwhelming blah veggies (think orange tomatoes and shredded ice burg lettuce). Of course, the bread is still great, but that's about it. Basically, I could go to Subway and get a better tasting, less expensive "French" sub.
So...the reason I continue to still love Best Bagette is because of the Asian subs which have continued to not disappoint. All we have tried are delicious and you can't beat the fresh carrot, cilantro, and jalapenos on top (that are slightly fermented, or pickled, which gives them a great flavor)
Also, you can't beat the price, even when you are purchasing some of their (proportionately) more expensive boba teas. We ordered enough take out food to go for 6 adults, for only $37 (including 2 large boba teas and 2 large canned drinks). This would have been a bit cheaper if we would have stuck to the tried and true Asian subs, but for some reason the far less superior French subs are a dollar or so more. Be careful when ordering items to go, specifically over the phone, because they screwed our order up pretty badly (gave us 1 wrong sandwich and completely forgot to include the salad we ordered....but remembered to charge us for it)
Word of warning: my husband likes to try new things when he has no idea what they are...so this time we tried a Durian shake and a Soursop canned drink. Both were a bit odd, specifically the Durian shake that tasted good for a couple drinks, but then the smell becomes a little overwhelming (sort of sulphur-like) and we didn't finish it. The Soursop juice was just a little too sweet for our liking (sort of margo-like, but sickeningly sweeter). AND, according to the red, ichy eyes and swollen lips my husband experienced, he appears to also be allergic to one of these fruits.
It's always an adventure!Listed in: My new neighborhood haunts..., The Best of the Best, "Cheap eats", I want to visit Vietnam...

Love it, love it, love it!
They make the bestest strawberry bobas and numero uno!
They have a large variety of different French/Viet sandwiches and even croissants! There's a little pastry area too and if you feel American, you can grab a bag of chips to go with your sandwich.
(Kinda weird to see the "asian tacos" and "hot dogs" but hey! you gotta cater to everyone...)
Oh yea! And my advice: trust me, you don't need extra pate. -

Scrumdiddiliumptious!!! I haven't had a good banh mi for a few months and so when I made a special request to my mom on a trip back home to get some banh mi, I was just hoping for mediocre banh mi to satisfy my cravings.
Lo and BEHOLD!!! This place serves some really DERICIOUS banh mi !! I got the banh mi dac biet and it did not disappoint. The bread is chewy, yet the inside is soft, and the sandwiches are filled with plenty of the good stuff! My only complaint is that the carrots and cucumbers aren't as pickled as I like them and they didn't include any daikon. Other than that, the sandwich was pretty damn good. I'd go back again FO SHO. -

Every time we drive by, we talk about eating here but we're always in a rush to get someplace else...so finally today we stopped in to taste their banh mi! Yum! Made to order on a crusty baguette, bf had a chicken sammie and I had the vegetable one. Vegetarians only get one option and vegans can order this without the mayo and you're good to go. The veggie comes with tofu but it's not a slab like I expected, but rather kinda crumbled/scrambled. The bread is delis but if you plan on eating in your car, word to the wise, you WILL end up with crumbs EVERYWHERE! I .
Other pluses are that our order was correct and we didn't have to wait very long for the speedy vietnamese women behind the counter to make them. The baguettes they use at Best Baguette are much longer than those I've had elsewhere so if you're looking to get the most bang for your pennies, this is definitely the spot.
Both of us were satisfied but agreed that we would pick An Xuyen if we have a hankering for banh mi any other day of the week but mondays (when An Xuyen is closed.) I prefer how they prep their tofu better than Best Baguette -

Whilst spending my life driving all over creation my waistline seems to be ever expanding, and my wallet is speeding towards the other direction. In light of this I would like to thank Best Baguette for saving me from hunger comas on multiple occasions over the years and accepting payment in the dimes, nickels, and quarters I find buried in my car.
The #3 grilled chicken sandwich has been my constant companion; fresh, soft bread filled with savory chicken, sweet pickled veggies, and a kick of delicious jalapenos-- yuuum! If I happen to find a few extra quarters I get a French Iced Milk Coffee, this super strong this coffee will easily fuel you for any drive, errand, job, or space mission you have planned for the day.
Problems I have with Best Baguette: 1) The parking lot is a huge pain to get in and out of, and it floods on extra rainy days. 2) They only take debit/credit for orders over five bucks 3) Sometimes it will take 2 minutes to get your order and sometimes it will take way over 10 and 4) It is literally impossible not to make a gigantic mess while eating these sandwiches.
Best Baguette, I will be vaccuming your crumbs from my driver's seat for many years to come.
