Berry Hill Bistro is so amazing!! I have loved it ever since it opened nearly 10 years ago and since then the menu has grown and now has so many more delicious choices on it. The restaurant is very small and always gets so packed, but I know that the staff there always does a great job with the crazy central park location that they have. Berry Hill is a MUST in Paso, I adore it!!!! If I could change one thing I would wish that they would expand their wine list a bit, but I usually order cocktails from their beautiful bar anyways. Not to mention, they have a very reasonable corkage fee which is great for people wine tasting in Paso.... and they also don't close during that gap between lunch and dinner which is also a wonderful plus.

BOO Berry Hill Bistro!
NYE Day i found myself on a road trip back to Las Vegas from the Monterey Penninsula and i pass through Paso Robles to head east on my journey. Downtown Paso reminds me of an episode of Gilmour Girls with the nice people walking about and everybody knowing everybody and then the cute little restaurants etc etc. So i felt like asking one of the walking around locals about a spot to eat for lunch and this gentleman directed me to a fine burger at Berry Hill Bistro and away i went.
Upon arrival the place was cute, quaint, and friendly. The staff seemed attentive at first but then i began to lose confidence in the lack of attention after the initial sit down and water. Im going to cut this review short because i dont want to waste too much effort on Berry Hill as this is how they felt about serving me some food. A hamburger does not take 30 minutes to prepare, especially when you only had 4 other tables to serve at the time of my order. There was no apologies, there was no coming to check on me at my table and assuring me my food would be out shortly, there was nothing. I got up and gladly took my business next door to the pub of where i ate on my last trip through Paso. Ill post a review of them as well as my food was out in 9 minutes from my time of order and they appreciate a customer there. -

A salad, a sandwich, and sweet potato fries were $36.00. All the ingredients were on the plate, as the menu described, but no thought to how to combine them, let alone presentation. The tomatoes on my salad were mealy, the sauce on the sandwich was used to mask the lack of flavor. And were the chicken and bread microwaved? We're still not sure. Definitely not interested in coming back.

This place is consistently good. I've eaten here about 15 times the last few years and still have not had a bad meal. In fact, it's been delicious every time. And the service is always great. Very comfortable and you can even get a cocktail.

I'm staying just down the road in Templeton for a few days and today decide to explore "Paso". I'm driving around checking out the town and looking for a place to eat. I park, walk around looking at menus of a number of restaurants and choose the Berry Hill Bistro.
My dad and I order the Black Forest Ham panini with a cup of soup to start. I have the artichoke bisque and dad has chicken gumbo. I taste the gumbo and... it's gumbo, nothing special. The artichoke bisque however, was very good! Rich and creamy with a very nice flavor.
The black forest ham paninis were very good! The combination of the ham, brie, pear, arugula and honey mustard on that crispy ciabatta bread was awesome! Had I thought about it, I would have them change the brie for fontina (not a big fan of brie), but life goes on. The one thing I did NOT care for was their "Asian slaw". Mostly because the dressing was strong and there was WAY too much of it! Too much is not a good thing in this case!
The servers were all very nice, but after my water glass had been empty for about 15 minutes, I had to ask to get it refilled.
If I were local I would go back! -

Everyone I know, family, friends and visitors to Paso Robles like myself, always want to eat here. I don't.
I'm not sure what it is exactly that misses the mark for me here, but I will err on the side of lack of flavor. I ordered a salad called the orzo chicken salad, expecting a large order of orzo pasta underneath some chicken. What I got was a somewhat flavorless spinach salad with about 2 tablespoons of orzo pasta spread around the plate. The bread they gave me was honestly the best part of the meal.
Their prices for the quantity are also out of whack. I love wine tasting in Paso because you generally get so much food for your $$ unlike the SF Bay Area. This is one popular spot that I feel is overpriced for the portions.

Had a really nice dinnerl here with a friend during a girl's getaway in Paso. Good food, reasonable prices, great location.
We started with a split of the Tobin James sparkling wine, which was yummy, especially for the price! Both of us had a hankerin' for the salmon with fresh veggies and mashed potatoes. So delicious, especially with a bit of pesto on the salmon! The portions were really generous, and we each took half back to the mini-fridge in the hotel so we could enjoy it for lunch the next day. Sadly, we had no room for dessert.
Oh, and our waitress, Cindy, was an absolute doll! -

Great, at least for lunch.
One of best fish chowders I've had. Great turkey panini. Wife loved the fish and chips. Nice atmosphere with large doors opening to outside tables on sidewalk across from park. -

A great little place to go when in Paso Robles. The wait staff was very helpful and they were able to make some changes to accomodate my picky eatting habits. I had the halibut with garlic cream sauce and it was awesome. Served with mashed potatoes and vegetables, the dinner was just the right size after a day of driving and adventuring. My wife had the tomato bisque which I tasted and it was very good as well. We both had a glass of Riesling with dinner and finished off the dinner with an absolutely killer desert. You simply have to try the Olallieberry and Apple Crisp which is served with vanilla ice cream, it is one of the most scrumptous deserts I have ever had.

I don't make it here that often, but have been eating here for years and have never had a bad meal. My favorite time to go is for a relaxing weekday lunch when you have the day off and can drink a cocktail on the outdoor patio while eating some pretty inspired sandwiches and salads. The frites are as good as Bel Frites in San Luis and fries are all that place does...

Discovered this little place on out lunch break from Appleville (Cupertino) to Disneyland. Pretty and not crowded with tables. I had a simple Turkey and Swiss but it was delicious. The tiny pickles on the side are so good I could eat a small bowl of them. I didn't much like the Asian Slaw but shared very yummy frites from other plates. Also came with a small orange piece. Daughter ate the kids cheeseburger with frites. Husband ate every bite of the Chicken Florentine sandwich.
The Bistro was a great choice but it's also surrounded by many other Town Square options and next door to a chocolate shop and across from City Park which made for a very pleasant break. -

Came here with my wife on the ride up to Napa from Southern California. This restaurant was a great intro to the weekend, and definitely a much needed respite from the road.
Set on the park in downtown Paso Robles, Berry Hill Bistro is in a great area for walking around checking out some local shops. The atmosphere is cute, and fits right in with a casual, fun wine country weekend.
The food was very good. We both ordered paninis and shared an order of fries. The focaccia bread was amazing, and the sandwiches we more than sufficient in size.
I look forward to stopping here again on my next trip up North. -

The wife and I were passing through Paso Robles on our way to Santa Barbara for our anniversary.
I had heard of Paso Robles, but never felt the need to stop by. Good thing we were hungry because we happened to stumble across Berry Hill Bistro in the cute downtown area of Paso Robles.
We pulled up and found parking right out side, which is why we checked this place out, it was right there. As we looked at the menu a couple walked out and we asked how it was. They said "excellent, lots of great sandwiches, but they are big." We were sold!
We walked in and the place is decorated really cute. It had hanging paracells from the ceiling and rustic painted walls and beamed ceilings with cute art on the wall. The table clothes had an old world Italian feel (not checkered, but more olive branch.
We immediately found the turkey, brie and cranberry panini and agreed to split based off the lady's feedback that they were big. We also added an order of the sweet potato fries with homemade garlic aioli.
First I will say that we are sure glad we listened to the advice because this was enough food for 2 people. The fries came first and served in a tall sundae cup wrapped in white butcher paper, super cute. The garlic aioli ain't no joke! That is some serious garlic flavor going on. We loved it, but if you don't love garlic, don't bother.
Then our sandwich came. They split it for us, which we thought was great, no fighting over who got what! :)
There was a side of asian slaw which was two different types of cabbage with an asian salad dressing. Pretty tasty I must say. But let me get to the best of this lunch............... the turkey brie panini. Ohhhhh Myyyyyyyyy Gawwwwwwwd! First of all I will admit to being a cheese slut. But really, this panini was so damn good!
The service was excellent and all in all the price was good since we split the lunch. If we find ourselves in Paso Robles again I will make sure to time it for lunch! -

Great casual dining bistro on the downtown park in Paso Robles. Menu items are on the lighter side, very tasty and satisfying. I love the Berry Hill Salad with chicken. My wife loves the paninis.

Charming cafe in the downtown square for lunch to start off a day of wine tasting. 3.5 stars
Cost to worth it rating: 3
Return worthiness: sure
Highlights:
- Chicken pesto panini: fantastic pesto with complementary flavors of spinach and carmelized onions
- Chipotle catsup: LOVED this homemade condiment with a bit if a kick.
- Sandwiches come with fries: can substitute for a salad and it wasn't just boring simple iceberg. It had beets and other vegetables to combat the usual plain salad.
- Burger: perfectly seasoned and cooked meat on toasted bread
- Cocktail martini list: very inviting, though being pre-wine tasting we passed
Midlights:
- Appetizer fries: served in a tall paper cone in a sundae glass and freshly done. Our particular batch was taken out of the fryer a bit soon, as they were not quite crispy enough
Lowlights:
- Bit empty: not much life at lunch but gave us a calm start of the day (not a true con but had to put something)
Cool spot for a bite--I'd come back if I was in the area. -

Had a nice dinner. The food is fresh and homemade. I had a sandwich and my wife had the chicken. For dessert we had the freshly homemade bread pudding. The BEST we have ever tasted.

Review from Di R.
This is all of my friend's favorite. I don't have any complaints except for the fact that I feel it is a little over priced for what you get. Drinks are rather high. Salads average around $12+ as well as sandwiches. We never seem to get out of there for less than $40 for two people and I'm not sure how that happens with what you get. And still my friends love it. The food is good but not over the top great.
I guess that I have a bad taste in my mouth because we took one of our friends there for their birthday and the waitress chose a dessert without asking and brought it out singing happy birthday. Now don't get me wrong.... I planned on buying my friend a dessert for his birthday but usually when a restaurant serves you a dessert you didn't ask for, they comp. it! (Especially a birthday dessert with a good customer to that restaurant which my friend is.) No such luck... it was added to the bill. I thought that was soo tacky.
Big mistake for them... they lost me at...."And will you be wanting change?"
I definitely will go back because my daughter is in love with their sweet potato fries and turkey and cranberry panini which I willingly split with her. All in all it is a nice little Bistro in a great spot! You can have a decent lunch or dinner and walk to the movies! -

Atascadero, CA
Had a chicken panini, with the slaw. My friend had fries and BLTA. Both were very good (except the slaw was boring and pointless). Overall a nice place to stop and eat. Our server was awesome, and despite having many tables that afternoon, she always kept our water glasses full. And got us our check on time so we could make our movie.
They have a nice wine list, and a fun drink menu (though we haven't tried any yet). I'd say a 3.5 rating is about right. I wouldn't mind eating lunch here again. Especially for the delicious fries :) -

We grabbed lunch here before we drove back home. Cute place with foods that can help on a hot day, especially if you get the refreshing raspberry iced tea.
It looked like a small family run bistro. Service was a little on the slow side for a Tuesday afternoon but there were only two servers. It seemed like there were plenty of locals.
Our waitress was able to split the spinach salad and chicken florentine panini on two plates for my friend and I. The dressing on the spinach salad was a bit too sweet for me but it was still enjoyable. The panini was okay but I did like the pesto in it. Another friend tried the cranberry turkey panini and wasn't a big fan. We were expecting some fresh cranberry sauce in it but it looked like it was a cranberry jam in it. She said it made it a bit overly sweet.
The garlic frites are delicious though. That is a must-have there. -

My mom were embarking on our 1st mother/daughter little getaway to Cambria. My mom had stopped before in Paso Robles with my grandma and aunt on a previous trip and they had stopped here for breakfast. It was around 2pm and we were finally getting hungry, so we stopped here for a last lunch/early dinner.
It was pretty dead as it was in the middle of the afternoon. The only other folks there was a couple who looked like were having a long, lazy lunch.
It has a nice rustic feeling inside with a pretty wide selection of wines if you enjoy wine ... it's wine country after all.
My mom wanted the burger and I decided the warm portabella mushroom salad looked good. I ordered the soup of the day which I can't for the life of me remember, but it was good. The salad was really yummy, but had a bit too much bleu cheese for me. I tried my mom's burger and that was good and so were the fries.
The service was good and it's cute that they have a little patio at the front if you want to eat outside.
Super cute bistro in Paso Robles ... I think this will be our lunch stop next time we head down to Cambria. -

We went here for lunch on the way back from San Francisco and to our surprise Paso Robles has an adorable downtown area with a ton of different restaurants to eat at. Berry Hill Bistro was wonderful.
BF had the California Rueben with coleslaw and fries and I had a cup of chicken and wild rice soup. Both were wonderful, warm, and just what we were looking for. The service is great, very accommodating but it is a smaller space and they do seem to fill up so you might have to wait.
We are thrilled to have a new rest stop on our trips up north. -

We had lunch here two weeks ago. They were busy when we arrived in the middle of the lunch hour but we were given a cozy table for two in the back which turned out to be a nice place to sit.
We ordered a salad and a sandwich. When the waitress realized we were having trouble deciding what to order, she suggested that they could split both our salad and whole sandwich onto two plates. It was the perfect solution and no split charge.
It can be rather noisy when its busy. But we'll definitely go back again. The food was great! -

Stopped here for lunch again since we just missed lunch at Artisan by 5 minutes (oops) -- I had the turkey club again, and it was fine. Fries were good. The real standout was the crab bisque, though -- stole half of it from my boyfriend.
He wasn't terribly impressed with his turkey panini (kinda drippy for some reason, something with the dressing they use) but the fries and the bisque work for me!Listed in: Central Coast road trip

Although another restaurant was recommended by the ladies at the winery we visited in the morning, my sister and I were in a mood for burger and fries so we decided to have lunch at Berry Hill Bistro.
The three different sauces/dips they served with the fries were very enjoyable. Nice presentation on the fries, too! (It came in a cone shaped basket instead of on a plate.)
Burger and sandwich we each ordered were both solid. I agree with another Yelper about their service. While the waitress was nice and friendly, she was extremey slow. We had to cut our PM tasting short because we ended up marinating here for much longer than we anticipated.
The food and ambience give this place 4 stars! -

Great stop for lunch. However, I don't get why everywhere I went in Paso Robles they played eighties music!
Spinach salad with chicken breast and bacon. Surprisingly the meat to green ratio was overwhelming in favor of the meat. But that's cool, cause that's how I roll. It definitely was a hearty and filling "healthy" choice.
The burger, the BLT-A (that would be avocado), and the salmon were all given thumbs up by everyone else.
Staff was friendly, the place was clean, and not surprisingly had a good selection of wines to choose from - also a plus was the unsweetened tea, a nice way to offset the drinks to come! -

I've eaten here many times while passing through Paso Robles, and I agree with the other posters that service can be slow. But the good food makes up for it if you aren't in a hurry. And if the weather is nice, sit outside on the patio. Last time I was there a guy walked by with a snake wrapped around his neck...
I've really enjoyed the flat iron steak with blue cheese on it, and they will sub the tasty pommes frites, so I'd recommend that. The paninis at lunch are very good as well.
The wine list is understandbly, and fortunately, very local, although not very extensive by the glass. The pours are generous, also! -
Review from Don H.
Cute little bistro - soft lighting, very friendly staff, nice spot to get some food! The onion rings were a little over-salted for me, and the batter, while appropriately light and crispy, didn't have a whole lot of flavor. The texture was perfect though, and the rings themselves were nice big slabs of onion.
The sweet potato frites were fantastic, but then I've always been a sucker for sweet potato frites. The wild salmon (from Alaska; I asked) was clearly wild, but also had pretty clearly been frozen - it was pretty tough, a bit dry, and a little on the fishy side. Disappointing. Though, to their credit, it was a HUGE serving.
The roast chicken panini was also enormous and very tasty - clearly, the sandwiches are the way to go. The cream of artichoke soup was also really good, mostly because it was at least 1/2 cream. But if you're not on a diet... tasty! -

We were passing through on our way to Monterey from LA and needed lunch at an almost 1/2 way point... maybe two thirds.
Anyways, we did a few laps of town and settled on this place since my g/f saw that they had flat iron steak sandwiches on their menu.
Oops shit, that was the dinner menu, fortunately the rest of the lunch menu had plenty of delectable treats to choose from. In the place of flat iron steak sandwich she got some sort of mushroom barf burger YAK!!! you want to eat fungus? really?! I had a quite scrumptious raspberry chipotle chicken sandwich. (wow, I never knew raspberry had a P in it! yay spell check!)
If you take anything from this review, take this message:: **Order lots of those amazing sweet potato fries!** -

We stopped by here on our way to some wine tasting last weekend. I got the burger and my friends got two different paninis. I loved my burger. The meat was tender and seasoned well and HUGE too! The sweet potato frites were excellent. The iced tea was crisp and refreshing, although i'd recommend the regular iced tea over the raspberry one - it was too tart.
The paninis were just okay according to my friends. Also the mini side salad that comes w/ the burgers/paninis weren't all that great.
The decor was nice. High ceilings, ceiling fans, lots of rooster/hen figurines everywhere - those were cool. It was really hot outside (close to 100F), but it was nice and cool inside. Almost too cold for me...
So overall, great burger and sweet potato frites, decent prices, nice decor, good iced tea. A nice lunch spot before heading off to go wine tasting! :)
There's outdoor seating, but when we were there, it was super hot and there were people smoking cigars in the bar next door so staying inside was the way to go. -

Walnut Creek, CA
While this certainly isn't the fanciest or most exotic spot in town, it seems to be quite popular with locals (particularly real estate agents - there must have been a half dozen there with their clients). This was a great little lunch stop before an afternoon of wine tasting. They gave us plenty of (relatively healthy) food to soak up the wine for the rest of the day.
I would classify this as a fancy version of the classic soup/salad/sandwich shop. They had some entree type items but the sandwiches and salads were so well crafted and substantial that we didn't feel the need to step up to an entree. To start we ordered their sweet potato fries with garlic aioli which came out at the perfect temperature. This turned out to be a smart move because it took a few minutes longer than you might expect for them to get a sandwich and salad together. I had chicken artichoke panini and I loved the flavor combination.
I definitely recommend this spot for lunch if you're in Paso and you've got a craving for a really good salad or sandwich. -

Walnut Creek, CA
Everything here was mediocre... not good, not bad, just mediocre. This little bistro place seemed nice from the outside, and even inside it was nicely decorated for the holidays (wife and I came here for lunch during a weekday in December). The menu's sandwiches and salad selection was limited and overpriced.
The sandwiches came with this so-called "Asian cole slaw" that consisted of chopped-up Taco Bell-style lettuce and teriyaki sauce. Yes, that's right, Kikkoman Teriyaki sauce, not a salad dressing that you would expect. The cole slaw was soaked in so much teriyaki sauce that it was overpoweringly inedible.
The sandwich, I have to admit was pretty good. I got a grilled chicken sandwich and they did a nice job with it. We ordered sweet potato fries, but they were an extra $8 and served in a ice cream sundae cup. A little odd- most places that try to serve fries in a stylized container use something nicer than a glass sundae cup.
Service was so-so- we did run out of iced tea during the majority of our meal and did not get a refill until we were given the bill.
I wouldn't come back to this place. -

This place was great! We stopped for a quick late afternoon snack and the waitress let us order off the lunch menu, even though it was about 3 minutes until lunch was over. We were pretty happy since we only wanted to split a panini.
The black forest ham panini and the sweet potato fries were fantastic and really hit the spot. A nice glass of wine while the sun was setting made for a perfect afternoon!

The Paninies are great. I love the calamari appetizer. mmmm good.

A good Paso standby. Interesting food, pretty good staff if not slow but the dining area is fairly dark. The sweet potato frites with garlic aioli is IMO their best product.
Also the outside seating is great to people watch. I go there when I want t see the holy trinity of Paso Culture. Goatee, Cowboy hat driving a white pickup truck.Listed in: Paso Wineries and Restaurants
