*** the garlic balls b4 meals are crack! ***

they are saturated with olive oil and garlic ...
of course these lil doughy fat pills may add a
lb or two, but my mouth waters at the sight of 'em.

Berri's pizza is of a classic thin crust variety.
their specialty pizzas are unique and flavorful.
ambiance is nice too but location is tucked away.
therefore they never get busy.  Playa's a sleepy town.

i think their remote location is the weakness here.
so i prefer the W.3rd St location ... it's pop'n late nite!!!

*** deduct 1-star for slow location, otherwise it's 4-star. ***

If it takes 5 minutes to make a microwave dinner of chicken Parmesan, why did it take half an hour for it to come out? Why even front?

You know when you wake up mega-hungover and you haven't had anything to eat yet and you entertain the idea of having another shot just because you're a masochist and want to see if you're gonna make yourself puke and then you draw your thoughts away immediately upon realizing you might and you don't ever want to think about drinking again?

That's what I feel, in my gut, when I think of the sketchy food I had there.

Seriously. Everything was bought pre-made at Costco and microwaved. Right? Or did it come out of a can of dog food? Now I'm not even mad, just curious.

the only good thing about this place is that you can nuzzle with your significant other in the corner of the lounge/bar and no one really cares or notices.

the food is terrible.  they once had a daily "special" of french onion soup and it tasted like boiled onions in bad tap water.  even their hot chocolate is bad~i swear they opened a package of Swiss Miss in the back kitchen and added hot water to it...and then charged $4 a mug.

too bad for this cute little place that has so much potential logistically and aesthetically~~but berri's just can't seem to get it together.  bleh!

I hadn't been in to Berri's in about a year and a half, and my boyfriend and I decided to go down the hill for dinner last night.

They have a happy hour all day Sunday, so we both got drinks, I a split of champagne and he a cocktail.  Total for both?  $9.  I'm hooked.

I am a total pasta person, and there were about six pastas that I am dying to try.  I tried the capellini with goat cheese.  I wasn't expecting the capellini to be so good, I was mostly looking forward to the goat cheese, but it really was.  Even without the cheese it would have been tasty.  Next time I am trying their Salmon Bowtie pasta, it sounded great!

My boyfriend is a salad person.  He got the chopped salad and liked it a lot.  We both loved their rolls and herby olive oil that came with our drinks.

** In a lot of ways, this place reminds me of Piknic in Playa Vista.  It has the same menu basics, and similar decor- style.  However, this place is heads and shoulders above, in terms of pastas, service, and vibe.

HAPPY HOUR, HAPPY HOUR ,HAPPY HOUR,

Ok, so the food may not be uber fab but the Happy Hour rocks!!!!

The mixologist/bartender may not have an extensive knowledge of the current libations (to put it mildly) but what he pours he pours STRONG, STRONG STRONG!!!! By the second beverage I was quite lit (intoxicated) and we are talking average sized receptacles of the sweet libation he was perpetrating on the unsuspecting crowd.

ALL DAY SUNDAY HAPPY HOUR!!! Check it out ALL DAY SUNDAY is Happy Hour, how many places offer this sweet deal????!!!! Mon. -Sat. is a solid 3 - 7pm with the a Grand Slam SUNDAY, happy happy.

The food specials are adequate and I admit have room for improvement but a good start!

I tend to shy away from advertising sweet deals as I selfishly like to keep them to myself but what the f***k, here's one I might as well share!

Best,

Never going back. I have had two birthday parties at Berri's and spent good money. The former manager "Siad" had things going great. I went in on Sunday during happy hour. I was completely ignored for 15 minutes sitting in the middle of the bar. Not even a "Be right with you." The bartender looked like a pirate with the oddly shaved chin and moustache. I walked out. They really blew it this time because I was a regular customer.

Went here the other night, and, well, meh, I've had better...especially at the price. It was almost deserted and our server mentioned that they had two large parties reserve and then no-show. I can imagine why:

Beet salad: CANNED BEETS. say no more.  BLEH.
Pizza: not too bad, but really skimpy on the toppings.
Service: very "dude-like" for want of a better term. Cell phone ringing in his pocket, and a bit overly familiar with us.
Wine: pretty darn good. Then our waiter tried to convince me to buy a bottle. I found that tacky.
Atmosphere: COLD. Not just in temperature, which, hey, it's LA, nobody has any insulation and it was 40 degrees...but very dated and 80s looking. shiny surfaces. Meh.

I've been here quite a few times in the past and brought some out-of-towners here for lunch before dropping them off at the airport.

The service was great, probably because we were the only people there but our glasses were never empty. The bread was fresh and delicious. I ordered the Spinach and Cheese ravioli with an amazing tomato sauce. I usually say there isn't enough sauce but this was quite the helping! My cousin ordered the linguine with clams and they gave her 22 CLAMS! Yes, we counted.

That's definitely a record.

This place confuses me. I read a few of the reviews. It strikes me that this place was better in the past than it is now. I don't know if the owners have changed, or the economy is worse off, but this place used to be packed and fun in Friday and Saturday evening, but now it is somewhat empty. The food is good, and a little pricey. This is not a pizza joint, its Italian with PIzza on the menu. I love the Carbonara. The free appetizers include bread knots with a very, very garlicly oil and garlic chunk dipping? sauce.

I would recommend it as a date place. Hopefully this is a temporary glitch, but it was a really fun happening spot for the community when and in walking distance.

Come to think of it, I know what happened. Across the street they tore down a chain Mexican Restaurant, Acapulco's I think, and I bet this is the place people went to as a flow over and they liked it. Now with the Acapulco's gone, there is no draw on its own. Shoot, I really liked this place.  They need to do some more marketing.

I lived pretty much across the street from Berri's for 5 years and ate there about 20 times. The menu has been about the same the whole time - pizzas, sandwiches,  pastas and a few entrees.

The three stars is mostly for inconsistent quality and service. On occasion the staff would seem to forget about you and other times you would have the most pleasant waitress.

The Tencha Salad and Club Sandwich are very good, the pizza's so so.

I think I have some sort of horrific disorder wherein I don't CARE if I have gotten food poisoning somewhere, I'll go back if it's good.  I did that at Balboa, and I've sort of done this at Berri's.  ONE TIME about four years ago, three of my good friends were struck down with a horrible bout of food poisoning after eating at Berri's.  The only thing they shared was the calamari.  But this did not stop me.  It stopped them, but NOT ME.  And, just so you know, it has never happened again.

I really love their chicken parmesan, club sandwich (seriously, it's ridiculously outstanding), fries, garlic bread, ANY and ALL pizza, merguez (so hard to find, and so good), and all of their salads.

Service is pretty hit or miss.

The B Bar is unexpectedly nice.

Use the valet parking.

You can also get take out and pig out and at home.  Actually thinking about this now, mmmmm.

The food here is great in my opinion but the service is not quite up to snuff and it is a bit pricey for what it is. I went to college right down the street and have eaten here a lot. I like doing take out, the food tastes the same and the wine is cheaper.

I would suggest the Tensha Salad, Rigatoni Cluzot, Lobster Ravioli, any of the pizzas if you like thin crust and most importantly the garlic knots. Man those things are addictive.

This place can be very hit or miss. I am very much on the fence between a star and 4 star rating. I have been going here for years. The main attraction I have to this place is the environment. It's a coll kickback place for either a nice dinner, or to watch a game with friends. The B Bar is a fun lounge that I love to meet friends for cocktails. The retractable roof is great in the summertime.

Why only 3 or 4 stars then you ask? First off, I usually find the service here to awful. Most of the wait staff is inexperienced and not attentive, see story below. Second, I love the food and I hate the food. A guarantee winner here though is the tomato basil soup and the lobster ravioli. Also, the pizza is very good.

A few wait staff examples:

One time we went and the most horrid wine opening experience. To make a long story short. We ordered wine, the girl did not cut the foil, rather she punctured it and peeled it. Then she attempted to open it with an opener with arms and not a cork skrwe (who knew restaurants even had those). Then she poured the wine and didn't let us taste it. Finally, and this is me being picky, we were served white wine in red wine glasses. I know, I know, picky.

Another fun adnventure, we ordered a pepperoni pizza. First, the waitress forgot to put in our ordered so we were waiting forever. Then she brings out a four cheese pizza with sausage. We tell her it's wrong and she asks us to eat it anyway because the mistake will come out of her paycheck.

This is a great place with great potential. I just wish the management would get it together adn hire some decent staff.

I've been eating here since it opened and was always impressed (good pizzas, great pasta puttanesca)-- until now. I hadn't been in about a year and, in the interm, something dire must have happened. Prices practically doubled and the service fell to pieces. Food was decent, but $18 for four spinach ravioli is insane at a place like this. Our waiter was clueless. The only plus is the great garlic rolls, which are terrific (but not as good as the sublime ones at C&O).

Also, good luck calling in pizza orders after nine. The "open until 11" note on their take-out menus is a joke.

I've visited three or four times and loved the food each time.  The pizza was great, as other reviewers have noted.  The carbonara, lobster ravioli, and bread twists were also excellent.  Prices are pretty steep, but I think the atmosphere and food merit it.  They're not what you would expect from a local pizza joint, but for a nice elegant casual Italian place they're all right.

The parking is silly.  They have a small lot right in front of the door, which is valet only.  There is always street parking available in Playa, so I'd go that route unless you're dressed up or it's raining.

The loungy vibe is my favorite thing about the place.  I've sat in both the bar area and the dining room.  Both are quiet, pleasently (dimly) lit, laid back, and not stuffy.  Locals at the bar are always friendly but not obtrusive.  It's easy to have a conversation with your partner or a group.

I've never had trouble with the service, but I'm not demanding, so I rarely do anywhere.   Overall, I highly recommend it for late-evening dinner and drinks.

I used to like Berri's a lot. It has a really cool atmosphere. The pizza is decent. The pasta's are good. The service is really good. But I don't really crave anything on the menu. Nothing too spectacular. Berri's is a good place to go to if you are hungry and in the neighborhood. Maybe after an afternoon at Dockweiler.

Not impressed with this place for dinner.  It wasn't horrible, but not good. It was overpriced and the portions were too small.  I have not had the pizza, but I have had tried at least 5 of the pastas and I have been disappointed.  It can get loud in the restaurant, but they do have a good bar to go to for just drinks.

Not bad at all. Decent place with great pizza and a great bar/lounge section. Good service, but nothing particularly special. I lived within a 10 minute walk from here so it was convenient. If you are in the area and want a nice, calm bar to chat with friends and get a bite to eat, then Berri's is the place.

First off, the servers are fantastic. They are so nice & attentive, and they never let you sit there and wonder "where the hell is our server?!". Emily, our waitress was so sweet, and suggested an amazing Chilean wine, that went perfect with our dinner. The hot, buttery, garlic bread is definitely a hit, and I tried unsuccessfully to  convince myself that I was "only going to have ONE more piece". As for dinner; fantastic! I had the Tuscan salmon; wow! It was perfectly crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and very buttery. It is a great place to take a date, the atmosphere is very relaxed, and peaceful. (I however, went with two of my goofy friends from high school..oh the conversations we had!) So, all in all, it was a great experience, AND I will be returning.

Berri's is great from a distance and even once inside the place looks impressive. The foyer when you walk in is both for eating and drinking, and has a random assortment of furniture to sit at with a retractable canopy overhead. Move closer inside and you'll find yourself in the main dining room, which is still very open and really only the bar separates you from the occasionally rambunctious foyer. The decor gets the highest points for Berri's, but the service, servings and price fall just below my standards for decent eating.
The service has always been the worst part and I'm forced to believe that the management just doesn't care and/or pay attention to the attentiveness of their staff. I've gone entire meals without getting my water or drink refilled. Of course, if I order a beer or glass of wine, they're on me for another before I'm even 10 sips from finishing! Money grubby bastards! Three different servers gave me this treatment three separate times, which is only their loss; I can tip very generously for great service.
The servings aren't at all impressive and as another reviewer wrote already, '$18 for four ravioli's is insane.' I'm a simple simon so I go for either the club sandwich or salads, but my wife loves the salmon, which might explain why we still go there. Salmon is pretty filling, even in small portions, so she's always satisfied, but I can't help eating a few more bread rolls to fill me up, which by the way are a hit-and-miss for freshness themselves.
I've already touched very briefly on the price, but frankly, Berri's is in a location where apartments low-ball the million dollar range, so it doesn't surprise me that a sandwich smaller than a Subway 6" also happens to be quadrupled the price. It's just a shame they don't add more bang for your buck.
Even with all that's said, I'll likely go back to Berri's with my wife again. I'm sure it's great for Happy Hour or cocktails with friends in the summer, but it has much room for improvement as a restaurant.

I went to Berri's for a Saturday Lunch within the last week. The place was pretty much dead, only a few patrons there. This may or may not have influenced the attentive service I received.
That said, my service was really good. The bartender took care of me, he was friendly and helpful. He made sure I had drinks and mentioned that while he didn't have a separate menu to give me for takeout, the dinner menu is pretty much the same.   However, the lunch prices were about 2-3 dollars less for each choice.
I went with the Tensha salad which was very good. A mix of shaved carrots, mixed greens, blue cheese (not dressing) and caramelized walnuts.
The calamari was good as well, albeit a bit chewy. Itt tasted good, had good texture, was light and didn't use the 'crumb' breading which I dislike a lot on fried items.
I'm giving Berri's a 4, since I've only eaten there once and I hesitate giving it a 5 without more visits.
