The Berlin Mart is a flea market and farmers market in one. You never know what you're going to find. Sometimes I go home empty handed, but it's always an enjoyable visit. The place is rustic, to be sure. But it's comfortable: heated in winter and air-conditioned in summer. If you know what a flea market is, then you should know what to expect here.
My dad loves to get diabetic candies at one of the sweet shops located here. He swears they are superior to all others. He also got his hair cut at the barber shop for YEARS until my mom started cutting it for him. They always did a good job. -

I went here today and I love going through all the things that ppl pull from the nooks and crannies of their lives. Sometimes one can find buried treasure. Flea markets are sooo fun and a great way to spend a little money and free time. Also, a great way to enter the sales world for aspiring small businesses.
I typically go to flea markets to find fruit, jewelry, possibly coins, artwork, and African shea butter. Then I usually end up finding other stuff I like. I walked away from this market today with two bags of stuff and spent less than 10 dollars! (hair accessories & fruit).
It so fun roaming through all this stuff for some reason, It kind of takes you away from the hussle and bustle of modern commerce and allows one to stumble upon things you wouldn't find together in regular stores. I'm an early bird so I love that the earlier you go, the more ruckus there is to sort through. (I'd be sad i a quiet flea market) Yell! Haggle! why else would you go to a flea market? If you don't like flea markets than just go to walmart.lol
I also purchased a pretzel on my way out. Good eats, I'd say myself. I would most certainly by another if I end up here again. (a little far from home). I would say I was just swell after i left this place (: -

Do you like rummaging through someone's useless junk? Do you like having the smell of sweat and an old dusty attic linger in your nose? Do you like getting into arguments over objects that have little to no value or that may or may not work? If you answered 'yes' to any of these questions than you will LOVE the Berlin Farmer's Market!
To really get the full experience, you've gotta do a few things. Go on a Saturday or Sunday and take a walk outside. Not only will you see some interesting characters, but you will see some stuff for sale that you just can't help but laugh at.
Go inside and grab a soft pretzel (delicious), walk past the clam bar (it STINKS), or walk into the book store and watch as old perverts leave with a smile on their face.
You can't say that you've experienced South Jersey until you've been to the Berlin Mart! -

This is a pretty cool place to pick up really random things and nicknacks. The food is actually good and the stores are interesting and cheap. It is pretty filthy tho like they do not have a cleaning crew but whatever, it's a flea market. The outdoor farmers market on the weekends is good too. My only real complaint is this horrible smell in one small section. Idk wtf it is, but every time I go there, ever since I was like 10, I've smelled it

Maybe it was just a really bad day, but this was the worst flea I've ever been to. Nothing worth getting at any price. Anything that once had value was broken or chipped. Dirty used clothes, dirty used appliances, it looked like 200 people went to the worst side of town and trashpicked.
I walked the whole thing and bought...nothing. Not worth the time, especially if you like to hunt for unusual vintage for your house or you.
Go to Columbus instead. -

Whether you're looking for a great bargain or for an opportunity to people watch, fewer places in south Jersey provide your fill of both as does the Berlin Farmer's Market. This is not your grandmother's mall so don't come expecting the same experience. You won't find glamorous shops or pretty people. What you will find is one of the area's largest outdoor, year round flea markets, and a wide variety of vendors selling everything from nicknacks to furniture to records under one roof. The merchandise for sale inside is new while the stuff for sale outside in the flea market is, well, for the most part, used. That's putting it kindly. But it's interesting to see what other people keep in their junk closets. For a great variety of affordable items in one location, the Berlin Farmer's Market can't be beat and shouldn't be missed if you're in the area. Chances are you won't leave empty handed.

Quite possibly one of the strangest places I have ever been to.
The Berlin Farmer's Market is THE mecca for bargain flea market hunters. In warmer months, the huge parking lots surrounding the indoor shopping center are filled with vendors tables, filled with everything from old records to jewelry to knives to hunting gear to bicycles to car parts to vintage clothes to appliances to old issues of Playboy to musical instruments to used DVDs and video games - you name it, it's probably there. The air is filled with an aroma of fried food and gasoline.
There is no doubt that you will run into some interesting characters, most of which you'd expect to see in rural Mississippi, not suburban South Jersey. There are definitely things here that will offend - just this weekend I saw a vendor selling framed photographs of Hitler alongside army/navy gear.
It's definitely a "trip", aside from its aforementioned cons. The indoor mall isn't much, but it's worth a stroll through. If you're up for a weekend adventure, this is 100% worth seeing. -

Great place to go for people watching, cheap food, or for other various items you might need. Food selection is various, feel like steamed clams or Philly Cheesesteaks? Fresh produce or clothing? Need a haircut? The Mart even has a barbershop. Plenty of parking, fun place to spend a couple hours.

Definitely a strange mix. The outside market is a grab bag of anything from samurai swords to triple X videos. But there's some neat stuff in between - clothing, costume jewelry, furniture, DVDs, etc. It's very hit or miss, but an experience in itself.
On a lazy summer day, it's fun to walk around outside and see who can find the most ridiculous item for sale.
Inside can probably be skipped altogether. It's rather gross and the only store worth visiting is their fabric store (a good selection of notions and interesting fabrics). -

The Berlin Mart is the King of All Marts. Seriously, where else can you get throwing knives, a Calvin & Hobbes t-shirt, an MP4 player (whatever that is), fresh produce, not-so-fresh produce, plastic Smurf figurines, cheap DVDs, jumbo packages of socks (they have a lot of socks!) and other assorted wacky items in one giant outdoor locale?
My love for the Mart goes back to my childhood. I even worked there one summer in high school. White trash forever, my friends! The Mr. Hot Dog USA truck is both heaven on earth (hot dogs on Italian rolls instead of flimsy hot dog buns) and dirtier than a festival port-o-potty (do you really think teenagers care about health code standards while cleaning out kraut bins at the end of the day?).
The inside part of the Mart, referred to in my youth as the Berlin Auction, doesn't offer a whole lot to shit your pants over but they do have a great pretzel place. The pretzels are pretty thin and you can watch them being made, so you're usually assured a fresh, hot one. And the mustard or cheese toppings are hanging in large rubber dispensers which remind me of gigantic long nipples. Kind of creepy but a big improvement over the big jugs with the pump, which never really worked for getting mustard (or cheese) on the entire pretzel. Plus, the nipples aren't all crusted up around the edges. That's very important, people.
Man, you know, I'm working myself into a frenzy thinking about the Mart! If you want to experience some good old fashioned South Jersey fun, and if you truly enjoy people-watching and digging through junk, this place is your diamond in the rough! It's totally worth driving from Philly to Podunk, Jerz, USA.
Pick a nice weather Saturday and do it!
I've got nothing but love for Berlin. Nothing.Listed in: South Jerz, I Love You

I would have never thought to write a review for here but here goes. This place is awesome, and terrible all at the same time. I would go here on a Sunday with my mom with no particular need but just to walk around and enjoy the outside part.
If i have a specialized need for fabric, used tires, a wig, amazing pretzels, a humongous chair, a toilet seat with pennies in it, or a hot sausage sandwich I'll hit up the inside.
Although I have now learned to regard it as part of the charm, It does smell inside though, bad. My dad always told me "go to school so you don't have to become a restroom attendant at the Berlin Farmers Market" Boy am I glad I listened. -

This mart has been here so long that I think its original customers were velociraptors. Yes, it is a filthy dive, but WHO CARES? It's a one-of-a-kind experience; if you're not prepared to get a little dusty (and possibly a little frightened), you should go to Walmart, where everything is safe and predictable and there is no haggling and no joy to life at all.
As far as the outdoor flea market goes, I wouldn't go there looking for a specific item. Rather, it's best to go there looking for ANY item. You will find something fantastically weird or cheap or rare there, I promise. I just can't tell you what that thing will be. -

The Berlin Farmer's Market is worth a visit for the freshly made soft pretzels alone. You can press your nose up to the glass and watch skilled hands twist each one and place it on the conveyor into the oven. On the other side, a perfect golden brown specimen of pretzletude emerges piping hot, ready to be devoured.
Even though there's mustard and cheese available, you can't go wrong just eating them plain. You'll be lucky if a half dozen survive the trip home. They're great to munch on while strolling inside the shops and outside at the flea market.
There are a few stores that make you wonder how they survive in business stocking the junk they sell. But survive they do. In fact, they thrive in that environment for the most part.
If you've ever wondered where African American ministers get their spiffy duds, there's a store that sells them. Want an old Lionel train? There's a store for that. The last 20 issues of "Model Railroader" magazine for $2 each? There's a shop for that. Need a $20 electric blue pasteboard acoustic guitar? There's a shop for that. Want to play pinball on a real pinball machine? There's a store for that. All of these places and more are inside the climate-controlled shops. Outside, at the flea market, is a huge bazaar where almost anything goes.
At the flea market, there are regular vendors who are there every weekend selling cheap socks, cheap knockoffs of expensive cologne, and generally cheap junk. There are also the average Joes who rent a table to get rid of their unwanted stuff instead of having a yard sale at home. Wear a hat. Your brain will boil in the sun out there.
You won't find an expensive antique that some ignorant yokel is selling for $5 anymore. eBay and the internet killed that market years ago. Everybody is savvy nowadays. But if you want 10 pairs of socks for $2 or a used baby crib, you'll probably find it.
Berlin Farmer's Market isn't much of a farmer's market anymore. There aren't many farmers left in the area, since most of them sold out to developers and moved to Florida. But if you look hard enough, you'll find a deal on something you need. And there are still a couple of places selling fresh produce and meats inside and outside.
And if you like to watch interesting and just plain weird people, you won't find a better entertainment venue within 20 miles. -

To say this place is interesting is a severe understatement. I went thinking oh wonderful a place I can get locally grown veggies and meats. mmmmm not so much. This place is not a farmers market but more of a flea market. I am all for kookie flea markets and such but this place was on another level. There seemed to be only one place to buy meat and one place to get produce the meat I believe was local but the produce was not and looked so sad sitting there amongst the t-shirts and pimp suits that were being sold as well.
I can see why people would be intrigued by this place but not for me. -

This where we go to buy various sundries in the summer. Best prices on Perfume and Colognes. There is lots of used stuff here, great if your looking for a used bicycle or appliance.
Also good for soaps, shampoos, body washes. The outside vendors usually have the same stuff the big drug stores have, but a lot cheaper. I buy my gilette razor refills here as well, easily half the price of the drugstores.
I always find strange little bargains here. Today I found an LED rechargable faux candle for 4 bucks. Even though I never really needed a faux candle, it still makes for a fun purchase. OOOh, it looks so real!! hahaha. -

I can't wrap my mind around why some people would go to a flea market and then hop online to criticize it for being "dirty" and "full of junk". Last I checked, those were two of the best qualities about flea markets! Yes, I should forewarn you that this review is going to be chock-full of "when I was your age" old-lady cane-shaking. Thing is, I was raised by a mom who planted the seed of secondhand shopping in me at a very early age. My dad was the least enthusiastic of this practice, but my mom ignored his protests and regularly shuttled me to various yard and garage sales in search of the supposed "trash" that would become her treasures. A flea market is just a gigantic yard sale that spans for miles, and the Berlin Farmer's Market is no exception. Sure, you will find some useless junk, but much of what you will find can easily be cleaned up and reused for years to come. Just today, I found a real leather messenger bag for $25, two vintage muffin/teacake tins for $10 total, a cast iron skillet in great shape for $10, and a cast iron sandwich press for $10. I would have easily spent well over $200 for those same items bought new at a department store. Also, going to the flea market is right on par with a trip to the circus thanks to all of the wonderful characters that you will both meet and see while perusing. Most of the vendors are very friendly and open to a good haggling session. Some will come down on the prices, others will not. Regardless, you will still get an amazing deal and have a story to tell about the unique purchase and interaction. I mean, where else can you go to find children's toys, vintage cookbooks, weapons, tube socks, and old tools all in one place? In HEAVEN, maybe... But while I'm still alive and kickin', I'll be taking the occasional trip to the Berlin Farmer's Market.

The inside is filled with a sleu of different races, smells, items, and food. The outside does lack a little, however you can find some interesting stuff out there sometimes. If you want to get over to the outside part of it, I would suggest getting there in the morning because people start closing down at around 3 or 4 in the afternoon. The inside is open later and is open 7 days a week. On the inside, you can buy weird t shirts, pellet guns, candy, peanuts, seafood, pizza, doo-rags, jewelry, and much more. If you go inside, you have to get a soft pretzel, they are bangin. If you stay outside, grab a snow-cone and start your hunting.

I agree that the Berlin Market is INTERESTING but the place is a filthy dive IMHO. I've been there several times over the years and it has deteriorated so much... so much of what they're selling now is garbage. And it stinks! Granted there ARE several very cool shops. But it takes me an hour to get to Berlin and it's just not worth the drive. If I happened to be in the area, then I would probably go, but it's not worth making a special trip for.
