My husband and I would highly recommend Anne Politeo, now of Marvin Garden Real Estate.

She spent a day showing us around Berkeley, Kensington and Albany.  If it weren't for her in-depth knowledge of the area and market, we wouldn't have been able to come to a decision about where exactly we wanted to raise our daughter.  We're new to the country and she patiently explained the differences between cities and neighborhoods.

Having raised children herself and knowing what we're looking for as parents, she helped to narrow down our search.  She was very honest about the houses on the market and didn't waste our time showing us houses that she knew were inappropriate.

    A real pro.

We actually ended up buying a house through a different Realtor, but that was absolutely no reflection on Anne's capabilities.  She did nothing wrong and did a whole lot right.  Actually I think it was her educating us on the market and neighborhoods which made us look elsewhere for something quite different.  So thanks Anne!

For my 100th review, I thought it fitting to review a business that is probably making the biggest impact on what my future life will be like.  It also happens to be owned by a fellow and model yelper, Tim C.

We know quite a few people in the real estate business - people we went to school with or people whose kids know our kids - and we could have gone with those folks to buy our next home and sell this one, but we went with Tim.

Why? Because Tim IS Berkeley.  No, he's not a smelly hippy, as half of the under 30 population just assumed by reading that. No, he's a true local, though.  He grew up here, he's probably been in half the houses here at some time or other, either as a guest or an agent. He knows this town -the good, the bad, and, yes, the smelly hippy - and how it all affects the market.

I've never felt him push me into something I don't want to do. He paints the picture, tells you your options, gives you his two cents, and lets you decide.

He's represented me as a buyer twice and a seller once.  I've felt like I'm in the best possible hands for both.  His wife, Anne, consults with him and her expertise complements his beautifully.

If you are fortunate enough to have the option to come invest in the East Bay, I strongly encourage you to hire Tim as your agent.  (and don't tell anyone, but I believe he lets his past clients park in his spacious parking lot  just across from Monterey Market...if you've ever tried to park in the MM lot, you know that's a seriously valuable perk.)

I'm a first time home buyer who recently bought a condo in Berkeley. Ann Politeo of Berkeley Home Real Estate was my agent and she did a wonderful job helping me every step of the way. she genuinely cared about making sure that everything about the condo was inspected and helped negotiate that many things be covered by the seller prior to close.

During our inspection period, she arranged for the usual general inspection but also arranged for a structural engineer to look at the place due to concerns around the earthquake retrofitting of the place. During the loan approval period, my lender was delaying the approval due to some new requirement regarding condo's. But Anne phoned up her contacts in the mortgage and underwriting business and found out that there was no such requirement. She followed up with my lender and applied just enough pressure for them to act quickly to get my approval processed.

Anne's determination and industry experience made my home-buying experience so much easier. I highly recommend Berkley Home Real Estate if you're in the market to buy a new home in the area.

History

Established in 2000

I started out with a small company in 1978, then in 1981, I joined Mason McDuffie, then the largest regional company in the bay area.  I was a top producing selling broker in that office until 1992, when I became the Manager of that office of approx 36 agents.  In 2000 I left and opened BerkeleyHome

Meet the Manager: Tim C.

Born and raised in Berkeley, went to Cal, married my wife in 1985, with whom I owned and operated BerkeleyHome Real Estate. This summer, we merged with Marvin Gardens. We have 3 children all of whom attended Albany public schools, which was a great experience
