Today, 1/7/12, is my girlfriends Birthday and she wanted Crab Legs. I reviewed every restaurant in the Myrtle and North Beach area and all I seemed to get was mixed reviews. So I decided to eat at Benjamin's on Restaurant Row in North Myrtle Beach and we had one of the BEST MEALS  I have had in YEARS. The place was clean, the staff was friendly and the Buffet was loaded with 170 different items. Of course the main item that we were looking for was CRAB LEGS and we were not disappointed, in the least. The Crab Legs were fresh, hot and seasoned to perfection.  I tried several different items like the Stuffed Mushrooms, different Shrimps and the veggies and mostly everything I tried was very good. My favorite, excluding the Crab Legs, was the Stuffed Mushrooms. Our total meal for the two of us was $71.00. This price included our tea and the tip. There were several items that I did not get to try due to me being so full, but next time I will have to try some of the other items on the buffet. The great thing about this place is that you can enjoy more that just one type of food on this buffet. You can have Chicken, Steak, Crab Legs, Pasta, B-B-Q, Veggies, Salads, Steamed Oysters, Steamed Clams, Oyster Rockefeller, Fried Shrimp, Fantail Shrimp, Bay Shrimp and many, many more items. We will be eating there again soon and we will not be waiting for her next Birthday to spur us on.

Ok, I need to seriously bring this place several notches down from what the other ratings are giving it. My one time trip to Myrtle Beach left me retching at the end of night. Folks, this is not seafood at it's finest. Not even seafood at it's best. Seafood should smell fresh and have a tenderness that can only be found in well prepared seafood. Coming from the Pacific Coast, I've had things cooked in many methods and nothing in a chef's bible does it say you should deep fry the crap out of seafood.
OK, my expectation of THIS beach town was WAY to high. I should have expected oily, deep fried meals. And even when they offer you 120 items in a buffet style setting, I would take just ONE decent piece of fresh seafood. Folks, keep driving and don't bother. The calories aren't worth it.

We enjoyed the whole experience. The restaurant is huge with neat nautical things hanging everywhere. Yes alot of the food is deep fried but that is what Calabash means. The fried items I had were hot, fresh, and delicious. I didn't try the crab legs but every other patron at the restaurant was carrying a plate of them.  we enjoyed all of the items we tried. Everything looked fresh and I saw them changing the pans of food often.  With that many people at a restaurant the turnover was good and I didn't feel like I was eating stuf that sat around for hours. If you are super health convious this may not be you cup of tea. Our only complaint was the price, $30 each. But all those crab legs can't come cheap. We can't wait to go back next year.

Lots and lots of crab legs and shrimp and scallops and....I'm making that happy Homer Simpson sound with the drool coming out of my mouth.  You gotta go!

This is a big place.  We went at 6:00 on a weeknight and had to wait in line to give them our name.  Then they told us it was a 25-35 minute wait and we were seated in 10 minutes.

This is a HUGE buffet.  Usually I am not a buffet fan, because the food is so bland, but that's not the case here.  The crab legs are hot and BIG with lots of meat.  They have a pasta bar where they will make the pasta fresh, a dessert bar and lots of tables with seafood and other fixings.  Oh and there's a salad bar too.  All for $24.95 for adults  and $10.95 for kids!

Our server was pleasant and very attentive and there was plenty of room to maneuver with our plates from the buffet.

    Go!

The first night we were in town we headed on over to "restaurant row" and decided on Bennett's Calabash. I was floored by how good it was and left completely stuffed. The only complaint I had about Bennett's was there lack of clams and the desserts(but who needs those after 100 items of seafood goodness). Anyways, two days later I knew I wanted more seafood and decided on coming here.
HOLY COW!!!! 170 items of seafood galore... A prime rib counter, pasta station, pounds upon pounds of crab legs, scallops, shrimp, craw fish, soups, salads, more shrimp more crab. YUMMMMY!
This place is the original, best in town and the best buffet I have ever been to.

Crab legs, crab legs, and more crab legs.

    Delicious.

Sure, there were tons of fried greasy foods, but you don't HAVE to eat all of the fried stuff!  Their sides were decent, but I spent most of the night eating crab legs.

Did I mention the crab legs?

120-position seafood buffet!  Seafood lovers must make pilgrimage to this treasure.

No I didn't count the buffet positions, but the server mentioned this number when we were seated.  The place is huge, with plenty of seating, so when we went on a shoulder-season business trip to the area, and came here to eat, the place seemed almost empty on a weeknight.

This is a seafood buffet, but should not be thought of in the same vein as any other buffet you may have experienced, except perhaps the Bellagio Buffet in Vegas.

There are too many choices, even to sample a little bit of a lot of dishes.  The crab is wonderful, but the shrimp, salmon, and scallops are also noteworthy.  You can't go wrong here - everything is top-notch, and a bargain for what you can get.

First and foremost, I want to make all consumers aware of what "calabash" means, especially to ol' Penny T up above. Calabash and "low country" cooking which the area prides itself on is based on coating in batter or corn meal batter and deep frying. Sorry if that doesn't fit your taste, but if you go to a calabash style restaurant, don't talk trash if you have no idea what its about.

That being said, Benjamin's Calabash Seafood is a classic fixture on the Grand Strand. You go as much for the atmosphere as the food. I've gone here maybe a dozen times over the 16 years I've been visiting Myrtle Beach and have nothing negative to say about this eatery. I would suggest it to anyone, but be selective and sample small, then return to what you like. Crab legs are always a plus, true, they aren't exceptional by any means and this place is quantity over high quality (I wouldn't say they are below average quality or anything). If you are looking for a single exceptional seafood entree, then don't go here. If you want to feel like you're on vacation and have a feast for all senses spread out in front of you as far as the eye can see, go to Benjamins.

way too greasy!!! The seafood wasn't fresh price was really high. There wasn't 120 items.  Maybe there was if you add the sauces and spices. Don't waste your money at this place. Way too greasy and salty there are other places that are much better.

Benjamin's is a very cool place to go if you are looking for a ton of food at a decent price.  My only issue with the food is that everything is fried.  I understand that to eat healthy while on vacation is a sin, but I do like seafood that isn't soaked in grease.  If you want an excellent buffet for less money with better food, check Charley's near Broadway at the Beach.
