An air-conditioned oasis in downtown Bend!
I love books, so naturally I love the library. But the Bend library is more than just a collection of books. It really is a nice, cool place to spend the afternoon. Huge windows look out over the streets and beyond. With a cup of joe and my laptop in hand, I can hop onto their free wifi and work or surf while curled up in one of the many cozy corners.
Don't have a laptop? They have dozens of Internet-connected computers where patrons can Yelp (or whatever) to their heart's content. They also have a broad collection of periodicals, music CD's, and movies. You can reserve books online and they will hold them for you on a special shelf near the front desk.
Meanwhile, the kids keep themselves occupied in the HUGE children's section. There are game computers, (screened) Internet computers, a big reference section, tapes, puppets, and books, books, BOOKS! -

I thought that leaving Seattle meant leaving a GREAT library system...I was wrong. This library is just as modern and capable as a large city library system.
Joining was easy. It's easy to reserve books and then pick them up and then check them out myself. overall I love my new library. -
