What's up with that? Why are you closed? Now where am I gonna get my milkshake fix when I'm on the Row?
I love coming here and getting a Strawberry Cheesecake shake. There is no way you're making me step into Pinkberry...seriously?
...WHHYYYY BEN & JERRY'S WHYYYY??? -

Review from Amy L.
Came here with some friends for the Free Cone Day [best idea ever, btw], and were pleasantly surprised by how short the line was. I was even more impressed by how efficient the workers were. They were very polite, even though I bet that was the busiest day of the year. Oh, and of course, their ice cream is so freakin' good. Strawberry Cheesecake, anybody?
They were also cool with me bringing in my friend's dog [well, I carried her. She's a 2 month old maltipoo, so she doesn't take much space]. The eating area outside had enough shade from their umbrellas that we didn't burn while people-watching on a gorgeous day in the Row. Thumbs up for Ben&Jerry's! :) -

Tried to go tonight but it appears they've closed this location. No sign outside and it was well before closing time but the place was locked up :(

Thank goodness this isn't the only ice cream/snack spot in Santa Row but then again, why would it be?
If you are in the mood for good old fashion sweet sweet ice cream then this is definitely the go to. Ice Cream at this location, however, is often a bit melty and the service is only average.
As I mentioned...good old fashion ice cream going. -

It seems like this location has closed! How sad, we liked to come here for free cone day and we always got a coupon for a free scoop on our birthdays. It's a nice location too, since Santana Row has lots to see and do. The people here were friendly as well.

Paws Welcomed at Ben & Jerry's on the Row. That's right, you can walk into Ben & Jerry's with your furry little friend while you order or while you eat, whichever tickles your fancy.
Aside from the location, my ultimate favorite flavor that never fails me at Ben & Jerry's is Cherry Garcia. I never can eat more than their smallest size because B&J ice creams are jam packed with fillings: large chocolate pieces and plump cherry pieces mixed with scrumptious cherry ice cream.
I never really was a cherries with my ice cream until I tried a bit of Cherry Garcia from a friend, from day 1 I was hooked and you will too if you just give it a sample. -

Hands down delicious! And smack dab in the middle of the action on Santana Row? YAY-ya!!
One of my favorite things to do with the kids just for kicks on a warm summer night - head over to Santana Row in our PJs for Ice Cream! Yep, I said it! In our PJs! To have some ice cream the way we want it at Ben & Jerry's!
It's so fun to sit out on the sidewalk cafe and watch the people passing by making up stories about them while we lick up & crunch every last inch of our cone!
Thank you, Ben & Jerry's! -

Ben & Jerry's is one of my favorite ice creams, so the flavors itself is great and I really like their business approach and philosophy. However, this evening really turned me off.
The girl that was serving us was very unfriendly and gave us horrible service. It was not busy in the store at all and she spent more time talking to her friends eating in the store, and texting...then helping us. I even tried to crack some jokes since traditionally, I know B&J employees are chill and easy-going. But she didn't even tried to fake laugh, all bad. The shake she made for me was not that great either, very liquid-y and horrible proportions. Boo.
I'm just gonna go back to SJSU's Ben & Jerry's. -

Yelpers, please avoid the afternoon Ben & Jerry's staff like plague! I just went here today, and the customer service is BEYOND TERRIBLE! The only customer in this store at 4:05 PM. was this old man and me. The old man was standing at the cash register was waiting for 5 minutes, and these 2 girl employees behind the counter was chatting and gossiping about celebrity, they don't even care and thought the old man was invisible.
After the old man leaves, it was my turn, again they giving me the same treatment even after a few "excuse me". After a few pacing back and forth inside the store, I gave up and finally leaved. This is what going on in my head:
"Are you f****** blind? Or do you serve only and maybe tall good looking guys and your friend? I mean I have bad service before, but turning your eyes away from the customer is like a taboo in economy like this. The last time I was there, the female employee in the morning was so nice and attentive, she have the one of the best customer service skill I ever seen, keeping demand with ice cream sample from other customer with a happy face. Today at Ben & Jerry's, I saw garbage.
P.S. To the afternoon girl employees, maybe you should stay home and watch Double Shot At Love and The Bad Girls Club and admire the people on that show more (because the real world don't need any more of these people like you in public). Also if you girls are really lucky, someday you guy can take a crap in a multimillion dollar mansion :) -

Dear Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Santana Row,
Why do you treat us so cold!? Did my wife offend you when we first came in and cheerfully exclaimed "I love Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream"? Your employee gave us the blankest stare ever, as if we walked into the wrong place. The female employee who came from the backroom was equally as unhappy to be there, did not say a word and walked right back once she gave our little girl a sample. Yep, the service was damaged.
I wholeheartedly agree with Stassa A.'s review of this ice cream shop, service gets an F! You would think that with such a dismal economy, people would put their best foot forward when it comes to their job. Not here on Wednesday May 6, 2009 at 630PM.
We should have stuck with our first plan to eat at Pinkberry.
One more thing, the one cheesecake brownie ice tasted utterly disgusting. I love brownies. I love cheesecake. I loathe this ice cream, which tasted like sour milk chunks. Never again will I eat that. -

Love this ice cream shop because the ice cream is really good, they give generous big scoops (especially if you get the guy with the muscles to serve you), and it 's really fun to sit outside and people watch as you enjoy your cone.
This shop has a much nicer atmosphere (mainly the outside seating) than all of the other ice cream shops in the Bay Area. We always get ice cream here after eating dinner somewhere on the Row. -
Review from Beth F.
Let me just preface this by saying that I adore the Ben and Jerry's ice cream--deeelish!
HOWEVER,
I was appalled by the lack of customer service at this location. The two male workers (I can't call them gentlemen, 'cause they weren't), spent their time hanging out in the back and making unprofessionally derisive comments about the girls they knew. One worker helped an elderly man in front of me, and when he stepped aside and I stepped forward to order, the worker WALKED AWAY to go dish with his buddy. I had to say, "Excuse me, can I get some assistance here?" for the guys to help me. Not only that, but when I ordered a pint of Americone Dream, the guy didn't know what it was. I had to point it out in the freezer case.
So don't get me wrong---LOVE the ice cream
HATE the lack of customer service
I didn't work in retail for 3.5 years to be treated as if I were invisible. -

Who doesn't like ice cream??
Dessert with Grandma and a 10 yr old make for an interesting time. Once that sugar kicks in, you've got a hyper kid and an annoyed group of adults! LOL
What made this experience extra special while enjoying my Coconut walnut cup were all the funny things that happen on SR Friday nights.
Pontiac Man was an older Indian man in a brand new pontiac convertible. He was blasting some silly music and was waving and hopping in his seat. At one point a silly passerby-er jumps in his car and parties with him. Everyone around us takes pics and joins in on the pointing and giggling. (10 yr old LOVED this)
Grandma Jan made an oh so funny comment on all the middle aged men in fancy cars. She whispered to us, "You know, in Arizona, we call those cars, Penis Cars!" hahah
Finally, the cherry on top of my sundae, after being so upset about a mediocre dinner, my love for Grandma Jan increased ten fold. She leans over to me and asks, are you still into journalism? (I had no idea how she remembered)
After 10 years of knowing someone and sharing your goals and dreams as a young 17 year old, the human bond between us was just like savoring the sweetness of your favorite ice cream. You never forget it. -

What can I say, I was so surprised I almost missed the Annual Free Code Day event, but so glad I didn't. Yearly around April/ earth day timeframe. Ben and Jerry's has great ice cream choices for unique flavors and I used to love to get the Brownie Sundae as a splurge but now enjoy the banana sundae better. Very heavy and sweet and great for a sweet tooth craving.

I'm a recent convert to Cherry Garcia Frozen Yogurt.
Yeah, you read that read, Frozen Yogurt. It tastes just as good as the original Cherry Garcia (which is to say dern good in my book), but with only 3 grams of fat versus 14 in the original. So you get to splurge and put off that heart attack. What else do you want in a $5 ice cream cone?
So why this Ben & Jerry's location? Well, an evening ice cream just fits down here between the balmy San Jose weather, the many nearby restaurants and the well-manicured, self-contained world that is Santana Row.
And seriously, try the frozen yogurt. Health nut tip: my sources report that the sorbet is a notch healthier while still quite tasty. -
Review from Lorrie M.
This Ben & Jerry's is so crowded sometimes it's hard to get in and they actually, once, ran out of one flavor of ice cream! Granted it wasn't a flavor I was planning to eat, but surprising I guess despite their volume of traffic.
In general, Ben & Jerry's ice cream is pretty creamy and when it hits my tongue, I know it is extremely fattening so I guess its good that they charge so much for so little ice cream. I am not a fan of any of their shakes or milk shakes or smoothies though because they've always been terrible.
My friend did make a great joke which I'm not sure is quite appropriate regarding Cherry Garcia. I think i'll buy Ben & Jerry's at Safeway instead. -

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!!!!
Especially when it's on da house!!! I wish we could vote every day and get free ice cream or just get it free every day, while we are at it. I'll wish a little harder on that one (but yes it is true, whether you voted or not on Nov 4, everyone got free ice cream in the evening). In the meantime, they need more non chocolate chip/fudge flavors. With the selection that was presented to me, I decided to not venture so far as to try their frozen yogurt options and opted for a Strawberry Cheesecake scoop on a sugar cone. It was deee-licious, with graham cracker bits and pieces. Smooth, sweet, strawberry cheesecake flavor on a freezing wintery feeling night, but I forgot about the coldness after I got my first lick.
Highlight of the night: Girl behind the counter that looks like she's about to faint from the never-ending scooping on Free Cone Night, "Did you come earlier? I thought I just saw you." Then she proceeds to scoop my ice cream in a delirious manner anyways. I'm sorry if I look like all the other four eyed Asians that came that night to partake in something "FREE". No, I came there once and that was it. I was NOT going to stand in that long line again! Ice cream before dinner was the best part of my day that night, you know how I do! =) -

Well, it's Ben and Jerry's so the ice cream is going to be good. But that's not what you're asking is it?
This is a tiny place employed by mostly teenage eye-rolling drama queens. I'm pretty sure I've never seen a smile on anyone working there. We'll at least a smile directed at me. There was some back/freezer-room shenanagans with a girl riding on a guy's shoulder and I'm pretty sure she was smiling. SHE-nanagans. Fabulous word. She-was-nanaganning on that guy's shoulders. That was LAME. Sorry. I'm just saying, don't expect stellar earth-moving service.
But since it is the only ice cream place on the ROW, so it's good to go. I mean, take the ice cream to go. THAT's what I'm saying. -

Ben and Jerry's always has unique and delicious flavors. I am a fan.
This place has friendly and quick service, which I can appreciate.
There is limited seating indoors, but WHO! WHO?!! I ask would want to sit indoors when you have the lovely Santana Row to peruse and the lovely palazzo like atmosphere to enjoy?
My sister and I went here earlier this week around 5ish, got our ice cream and then went and sat by the fountain in the middle of Santana Row. She said it reminded her of when we were eating gelato in Rome... Santana Row + Ben and Jerry's gives you that Rome experience for much cheaper and less jet lag!
Loves it... and you know you do too. -

Love this place!!
....especially on Free Cone Day :D
The servers were still really friendly and nice, despite the long lines of people waiting to get their free ice cream. Plus, they still gave out generous portions of ice cream.
I tried the Coffee coffee Buzz Buzz Buzz and it was AWESOME. I love coffee ice cream and this one had the perfect texture with big chunks of chocolate, which only added to my love for this flavor.
Good crowd control too. They get a good review for being an awesome ice cream store.
Maybe I'll actually come here again and pay full price for some more ice cream, which was probably the point of Free Cone Day.
....maybe. -

I work at Santana Row and one Sunday, I decided to come in here on my break to get a smoothie.
...there was a LONG line...I said, eh whatever. It should move fast. I look behind the counter...there was ONE worker. Yes. Count 'em. ONE. WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!?!
There was another lady behind the counter with kids...she was kind of a tease because I thought she worked there...and was going to help speed up the line. Yeah...no. She kinda just stumbled out. When someone started to order from her...she mumbled "oh. I don't know how." WTF?
So, I waited for like two more mintues...and I took off. Hell no...I don't plan on going back there. -

I'm a fan because I got my free ice cream yesterday! :D
I usually never see a line out the door at any Ben & Jerry's store. But yesterday they were giving away a free scoop of ice cream because of the elections from 5-8pm. I couldn't believe how many ice cream flavors they had that had chocolate of some kind. They only had a handful of non-choco ones. I ended up trying the cinnamon bun ice cream. It was gooooodd!! Very cinnamon-y! So if you like cinnamon, this is for you!
They had some halloween ice cream cakes in there... It made me wonder when those cakes were made. o.O
Yay for FREE ice cream! Thanks!! :) -

A Ben & Jerry's store is a great idea in theory. But for me, the Ben & Jerry's ice cream experience isn't complete without curling up on the couch with a pint, a large spoon, and a good movie.
I'd really much rather pig-out at home than in public at Santana Row . . . but maybe that's just me. -

I got ice cream here after eating dinner at Santana Row. The service was really good, so the line moved fast.
I got the chocolate fudge brownie, which is chocolate frozen yogurt mixed with brownie. I thought the flavor was really tasty.

Why do I go to Ben and Jerry's, when I go to a Safeway and get me a pint of my favorite flavors, firstly I get to sample new flavors and secondly there is nothing like getting your favorite flavor and stroll over to the fountains across the street to enjoy the sun, while people watching! They get three stars because of a totally distracted team.

I am a fan of Ben and Jerry's but since i am almost always on the Atkins diet I have to pick and choose ice cream very rarely. When I do get ice cream, I get either Dolce in Los Gatos or Ben and Jerry's. This is such a great people watching place with all of the grandmas and grandpas with their kids.
I love the Cherry Garcia myself and the people who work here have always seemed nice and helpful. Personally, when you have kids working you are going to have trouble so you should be ready for it. -

Their recent smoothie promotion, which included coupons for buy one smoothie get one free (awesome deal), is what initially drew me into this place. I've had a decent amount of Ben and Jerry's in my day but tend to go for frozen yogurt when I venture out rather than classic cream. Anyhow, the smoothies at this place are INCREDIBLE. Good selection and extremely well-blended, unlike the lackluster version of the same thing at the downtown location, which tasted like cereal milk served with a poor attitude. As for the employees at this Santana Row location, I had my first waffle cone there yesterday and the service was great! Upbeat and friendly, even coming 25 minutes before closing I didn't feel rushed or intrusive on what they were doing. The ice cream itself was great, which is no surprise coming from a company that prides itself on quality.
Although the SR complex is a bit ritzy and snooty for my taste I highly recommend this location over the one in downtown San Jose anyday. -

It was really busy when I came in here. When I was in line, there was a place to put business cards so I put mine on the corkboard. A cute Mexican? chicka kept catching my eye from behind the counter. I'm in a tshirt and long shorts, I'm not feeling sexy or handsome at all today, but hey I smile, she smiles back. Cool.
The long line went by pretty quick. I let a few kids go in front of me so I could figure out what I wanted.
I got my chocolate chip cookie dough in a waffle cone. Cool.
I get up to the counter and initiate talk with the Mexican? chicka at the counter. Now she's totally acting uninterested. Wierd. I do as much talking as I can and finally she seems friendly again. Cool.
I leave, will I come back? Umm, maybe. I still need to see what all Santana Row has to offer first. -

Can't complain for getting free ice cream yesterday! Man, they don't skimp on the scoops either. My friend counted that they gave us 3 scoops each..crazy! I ordered the chocolate peanut butter swirl and my friend got imagine world peace (lol to the funny name). Mine wasn't too shabby..it had peanut butter chunks and tatsted yummy. The world peace one was pretty good too..it had chocolate chunk shaped peace signs haha. Overall, the girl was very quick at serving us considering she was the only one working at the counter. She was very generous with her scoops so I can't complain at all! :)

This scoop shop does not have my two favorite flavors, Chubby Hubby and Half Baked, but I GUESS I'll just settle for a scoop of Chocolate Therapy or Coconut Almond Fudge Chip or NY Super Fudge Chunk... oh what the heck, any flavor will do. They offer a 10% discount for Santana Row employees, which comes in handy when you want to buy a cake to share with your coworkers.
