As fresh-off-the-planers on our first trip to NYC in October of 2006 my hubs (then bf) and I were awed by the splendors of the NY. I am pretty sure we would have been inclined to love any hotel, but considering the amount of time we spent at the Belvedere I feel confident in my rating.

First off the front desk was extremely accommodating - allowing us to check in at 9 AM instead of the standard 3 PM gave us the opportunity to freshen up before hitting the town (read: we were pretty beat looking after a red-eye flight).  Also, the bell hops were extremely helpful and made two kids from the ghetto suburbs of LA feel fancy and not like the scum we clearly are.

The room was clean and was decently sized - however for some odd reason we had 2 double beds, which I suppose can be chalked up to the fact that we checked in early.  The bathroom was also very clean and spacious enough, which leaves me puzzled as to the reviews of other yelpers in this regard.  Guess I am just easily satisfied (double entendre anyone?).  The kitchenette was a nice amenity, especially for those of us looking to a) save money by pre-partying and b) who just really like drinking/eating whenever the mood strikes.  Side note - never start the night with Jager shots, bad news...

Which leads me to my next point.  If the Belvedere was able to handle all that two hungover bodies could dish and still leave us with a positive feeling, then the place speaks for itself.

Actually, I liked everything about the Belvedere, except for a few minor things and one major thing.

But the big thing about the Belvedere is location, location, location.  It is in a SUPERB location, especially if you're going to the theatre nightly.  Most nights, we walked two blocks and we were at a restaurant and then the theatre.

Okay, so the negatives.  The bathroom was made for someone really thin and really short.  The sink is tiny and with no counter space, almost unusable.  The toilet is uncomfortable to sit at, since it's down so low and up against the wall; really, I think it was made in the 1920's or something.

Another negative:  no real restaurant.  You can go downstairs for breakfast, and they'll charge you for either a full breakfast or continental breakfast, all from help-yourself stations with inferior food.

Also:  the internet.  They charge you an arm-and-a-leg for wireless, and most of the time there is one or no bars.  Useless.

If you can take all these things, it's a beautiful hotel, especially the lobby, and offers small but nice rooms in a great location.

Great value. Rooms are enormous by NYC standards. Bathrooms are modern and huge. Did not get a chance to check out the fitness center but it is 24 hours, and you are easy walking distance to Central Park if you like running outside. The elevators are slow, and the general look of the hotel is old bordering on a little shabby, but these are very minor gripes. Great location for touristy type stuff, not too far from the subway, very close to a number of restaurants and bodegas. My only real complaint that prevents this from being a 5 star review is the staff's manner was a bit less than friendly, the doorman for instance just stares at you as you open the door with your bag, and the concierge gave me one word answers to my questions which I thought was a bit weird. Overall, though definitely a great find and a place I will return to.

I enjoyed my stay here while visiting my cousin in New York. I really enjoyed the service and location (who wouldn't -- it's within walking distance of Times Square and minutes from Fifth Ave). My room was clean but a tad bit small. I booked through http://www.getaroom.com and left pleased.

This hotel is a fabulous find in NYC.  Not expensive, largish rooms, a fantastic conceirge team, and perfectly located (close to Times Square, Restaurant Row, and lots of theaters).  Last time I was in town, I stayed in a boutique hotel that was very pricey, dark, and so cramped it was absurd...give me the Belvedere over trendy any time.

Only downside was the overpriced, very blaise breakfast--but that's easy enough to remedy, just eat breakfast someplace else.

The beds were comfortable and the view...I actually had a view.  First time in NYC that I haven't looked out on a brick wall.

We had a great time here and I will definitely stay here again.

(Updated) Okie, I am out of NYC. I have to say, I enjoyed the Belvedere. I can't give it five stars, because of:

a) Parking is terrible and expensive
b) The interior is a little dated, and starting to need some touch up.
c) Window air conditioners are noisy.

Now, with all that - It's not bad, but the parking (yes, I know - Saturday Night on Valentine's day next to broadway) doth sucketh mightily! And the staff, while well meaning - did little to help except offer their $43/day valet parking - and tell me that we need to tell them an hour before we need the car. (O,o)' No in and out priviledges either. Still, two blocks to Broadway and a few to Hell's Kitchen.

The room (Art Deco in style) is nice, well appointed and more than makes up for the parking issues (well, not really).  It's a good room, with a nice bed and TV, and the bathroom is clean. We got the room via Expedia, so we got it at a fairly good price for 4 nights. Less than $200 would be my break point for this hotel. More than that, you should look for others to compare. The staff are friendly, but not overly so. They meet most of my (high) expectations. I would like a better place, as the street is also a little run down. I could see myself returning... but will also be looking for alternatives on my next stay.

Bottom line: A good deal, and if you can get a good price - it's worth a try. Just leave your car at home. Take a cab... your wallet will thank me for it.

We got stuck at the The Belvedere after we tried to book a room at another hotel that is affiliated with them in some way and pushed to this place as a replacement.

It is really bordering on being a downright dump. The rooms are small, outdated and shabby. The bathroom is tiny, as is the kitchen. The hallways are painted in the most unappetizing palette of browns. The beds are most definitely the hardest I've ever slept on. The sheets are scratchy, the towels have stains on them, even the toilet paper felt like cardboard.

As if that weren't enough, the service was awful. It took us 4 phone calls and over an hour to get a replacement hair dryer since ours was broken. The main elevator was out the whole time we were there, so we kept getting passed by or stuck in the one working elevator with a million people every time we left our room. Add to all of this the fact that it is smack dab in one of the touristiest parts of town and you'll start to get the idea. Avoid at all costs.

The interior decor of this place is a little outdated (and entirely in shades of brown) but otherwise the room was nice.  The hotel is in a good location for most of the major midtown tourist areas.

Lucky me! I got to stay here for FREE for two nights thanks to an all expenses paid business conference, but the room I got was less than appealing. Old, out-dated and somewhat dingy smelling, it could have used a serious renovation. Not that I could complain too much. It did have a small (and I do mean, SMALL sized) kitchen, closet, bathroom, two beds, and wireless Internet. Don't expect a view of the city or anything else to add to your NYC experience if you're on the first few floors.

I wasn't until I decided to stay an extra night ($299 + taxes & other fees = $344) that I moved up both in accommodations and in quality of stay. WOW. This must be what the Belvedere really has to offer. Talk about a night and day difference between the 3rd floor and the 16th floor (17 floors possible, I think). Opening the door, I immediately felt like I was in a serene hideaway from the hussle and bussle of the city streets below. King sized bed, fluffy white bedspread and pillows, great view of the city, plasma TV, marble bathroom... ahhh, I slept very well in case you're wondering.

The staff is very helpful and friendly. You're two blocks from Broadway/Times Square in one direction and one block (albeit sketchier) from Hell's Kitchen on the other, where there's a great selection of underground independent restaurants to choose from. Awesome location for someone who doesn't want to spend megabucks, but wants the convenience of being close to "the city." Spend the extra to get a room up top. It's not too much considering you're in New York City after all.

The Belvedere isn't a breathtaking boutique hotel, but it is a very basic and sufficient (reasonably priced--for NYC) hotel that is located in Hell's Kitchen just a short walk away from many excellent ethnic restaurants.   Its impressive outside isn't quite matched on the inside.  The rooms are a bit dated and threadbare, but clean.   Everything seems to work as well.  Hint:  If you stay there there are more elevators than the central elevator that everyone seems to want to use at the same time.  I may eventually find a better hotel in NYC for the price, but until then, I am staying at the Belvedere.

Don't get me wrong, if you stay here expecting it to be the Waldorf-Astoria, you'll be disappointed...but if you look at what you're paying, you really can't beat this place.

The hotel is decorated in an art-deco-ish sort of fashion and the reception staff and concierges are polite and knowledgeable. The rooms themselves are clean and in decent repair; the furniture and the bathroom tile could probably use a facelift, but seriously, whatever. You're in New York City...how much time are you planning on spending in your hotel room?

If you're staying in New York for the first or second time and hoping to do the OTT (Official Tourist Thang), the Belvedere is well situated near Times Square, Restaurant Row, the theaters, and 5th Avenue/Rockefeller Center. Parking is basically nonexistent, but the hotel is a five or six dollar cab ride away from Penn Station.

The only downside that we saw to staying at the Belvedere is that the area can be noisy. The hotel is about a block away from a firehouse and across the street from a performance arts-centered high school. The decibel levels vary; one night the fire trucks got dispatched five or six times and the high schoolers woke me up early in the morning, and the next night there were no sirens at all and the students were very quiet.

Overall, this is a great place to stay if you would rather spend money on museum admissions or a special dinner out than on a pretty place to sleep, but bring some earplugs maybe.

very nice hotel - clean, cute, friendly and helpful staff.

GREAT location - Times Square, Restraunt Row, Theatre District, Hells Kitchen - all walking distance.

Very Reasonably priced considering the location.

only downside - very small rooms - but that's to be expected in Manahttan.

This was a great hotel at a great price.  Nice, clean and comfortable and a great location close to Union Square but not in the heart of the craziness.  Will definitely stay there on our next NY trip.

A fabulous boutique hotel within walking distance to Times Square and Broadway!  Not on the main strip so it's relatively quiet.  Great value, but the rooms are small like all NY rooms.  WONDERFUL service- I forgot my cell phone in the room and they promptly found it and mailed it to me!  They definitely went above and beyond.
