There are really only three reasons why you should stay at Belnord:
1. You live here. (Yes guy at the end of the hall, I saw your CD towers and posters on the wall.)
2. You're a freewheelin' hostel jumpin' rogue and you don't mind where you sleep as long as there's a bed and one of those lamps that doubles as a lightstand.
3. Even though you plan your east coast trip MONTHS in advance and you have all your hotels in Boston and DC lined up, you realize 10 DAYS before you leave that you have no place to stay in NYC. Oops.
Now before you judge my naivete for #3, keep in mind that I paid $119/night for a room in a decent part of the city. Yeah, choke that down while you're paying $500/night elsewhere. (Seriously, http://hotels.com was awesome in a pinch.)
Sure, it's five stories and there isn't an elevator. (If you can't handle the trip up, maybe you should stop smoking/drinking/binge-eating/doing nothing.)
Sure, the room is sparse and the wallpaper is hanging off the walls and the carpet falls into the hideous category of "faded mauve." (It's clean. You're paying nearly nothing as it is, who cares?)
Sure, the bathroom is across the hall. (Actually, screw that. Finding short dark hairs in the sink and in the shower was gross.)
Nice people checking you in (it's not a concierge as these kids were just sitting at a card table while half the hotel is being renovated) and triple jump distance to the W 86th subway station. Also, for as old-fashioned and dilapidated as this place is, MAJOR props for having wifi.
Just don't forget those shower shoes.

This hotel enjoys a decent Upper West side location. I found my room to be very clean, but not as large as I'd hoped. My wife had several questions upon entering the hotel and the staff couldn't be friendlier. I found the best deal for this hotel on http://www.getaroom.com. We're definitely thinking about going back in the near future.
This was a very pleasant experience. The hotel was very clean and the staff was friendly. For some reason our shower didn't have a curtain or door so taking a shower was interesting and messy. The location can't be beat. It's a bit uptown but great transportation accessibility nearby. Central Park 3 blocks away.
Great price through Expedia. We would stay again.

Stayed here the first night we were in NY. We were in the room next to the luggage room. The outside looks nice, the lobby was nice, the room was ok. The hallway to the room? Looked like it was going to start bleeding from the walls. Seriously very gross. I don't even want to know what the upstairs looked like.
Check in time isn't till 2, so we had to kill some time.
Good location though, very close to Central Park and the train.
