The way things should be!

It seems that the more and more I find myself eating out in the pacific northwest, the more I find that people have a very skewed view of what is good and what should be expected. I have experienced restaurants that think it is appropriate to gouge the consumer for mediocre food just because the word "seafood" is involved in the meal. This was completely not the case when it came to dining at the Belmont!

The Belmont, in my opinion, had the best tasting, best priced food that I have had thus far in the state of Washington. I was blown away!

We had the chiopino, the crab stuffed sole, the lobster bisque and the bloody marys. All three of us walked out after our meal and completely agreed that it was a meal to remember (which rarely ever happens). Every item we tried was done perfectly. The chiopino was filled with succulent clams and fish, with a kick ass tomato base. It was so good that the others couldn't keep from dipping bread in the sauce. The crab stuffed sole was heavenly. The perfect portion and the taste, simply amazing. Textures in this dish were also great! There were asparagus spears on the bottom with a cheese sauce ladled over them, with the crabbed stuffed sole presented on the outside of the plate. The sole had a crisped top and all the flavors fell together perfectly. The lobster bisque was perfectly sweet with the right consistency and right amount of lobster flavor. Even the bloody marys were a delight.

Do yourself a favor and make your way out to this restaurant and learn what dinning is all about - from the taste, presentation and price range, this establishment cannot be beat!

Nice historic building with indoor and patio seating overlooking the harbor.
We have been traveling up the West coast for 5 weeks and doing taste tests of clam chowder.  The Belmont had the best!  The herbs were unique.  The consistency was wonderful.  It was full of clams.
One of us tried the delicious lobster bisque which was not too rich.  I had the sole stuffed with Dungeness crab.  My husband had the special halibut stuffed with crab.  Both were delicious.  The sides of rice and potatoes were unique and great tasting The bread was tasty with the flavored butter.
The prices were reasonable.   One of the top restaurants we experienced and we have been to quite a few these past few weeks.

We were wandering the town and stopped in for some lunch at this place.  I am sorta surprised and yet not so surprised at the reviews here.  We had some WONDERFUL oysters fresh from the hood canal that were huge and delicious for about 8 bucks, we liked that.  I ordered a grilled crab and artichoke panini and my bf ordered a halibut baked something or other.  I was a bit disappointed at how fatty and oiled our food was.  We were stoked with the oysters, but the rest was a bit heavy for our tastes.

As for the server.... the older gentleman from the east coast written about by Ducky M.... ya, we had him too.  Interesting to say the least, but he was cool.

I liked the inside, it was really inviting and had a great view outside to the water.  Next time, I will stick with the oysters!

Not a place I would return too.

The restaurant has great decor and pretty good service but no culinary experience. I would say this is close to the worst restaurant that I have been to recently.

They ran out of mussels at 7:00... Hmmm. The clam chowder was the best thing that I had on the menu. I had their std halibut that was cooked with tomatoes, capers, and garlic.... The garlic was raw. (NASTY!). The meal was supposed to come with a baked potato-- but they ran out and served us their semi-raw hashbrown with sour cream and poppy seeds. Who runs out of baked potatoes. Really? The potatoes were not cooked. I can honestly say that I left more than 2/3 of my food on my plate and left hungry. I would never eat here again.

My husband had their crab topped halibut. I honestly thought that someone had vomitted on his fish when he brought to our table.

Skip it. There are far better restaurants. I am only giving it 2 stars for the service.

Went to Port Townsend for a short get away from Seattle and to
experience the  Saturday Victorian Holiday event. Had a craving for some chowder and fish and chips for lunch. The Belmont looked inviting and they had a waterview dining room.

Service was good, food was not. My halibut fish and chips were really sub par. The 3 generous sized pieces of fish were extremely greasy and overdone. The fries were terrible, limp and bland. Frozen oven baked fries would have been better. The Caesar salad, we had was like a salad kit from the supermarket. The lobster bisque was OK, bread was good. Curiously, they served the bread with an odd combination, butter whipped with balsamic vinegar. It looked terrible. The Belmont is not recommenced, there has to be better food than this in PT.

We just sorta made our way into the Belmont the weekend of the Strange Brewfest. It was lunch time, and it was the first place we could find that would take 8 of us and was close to our destination.

I have to say; it was a unique experience.

Our server was an older gentleman- profusely sweating, greeted and chatted with me as an old acquaintance (when I have NEVER met the man in my life), and spoke with a thick East Coast accent, punctuated with Mafia-esque slang. Things were looking quite fun already and we hadn't even begun to drink!

This server made the best out of a potentially bad situation. It was clear that the staff were rookies. I don't think I saw a server over the age of 20, except for ours. He told us the day had started badly and that he was "babysitting" his staff all day as they tried to get through the Saturday lunch rush.

This guy really tried working some magic with a place that definitely had seen better days. Their fryer was down- no fish an chips or french fries with sandwiches. Their hostess was rude and un-accommodating. The Belmont just simply feels like a server cemetery- where local waiters and waitresses go to drown in a sea of unforgiving tourists. It's a bit on the morose side - antique Victorian decor mixed with years of server decay.

Food was decent. Surprisingly zesty balsamic-chile salad dressing on an adequate bed of greens. A commendable spinach and artichoke dip. Alfredo sauce for the pasta dishes needed work and clam chowder had a bit too much Bay Leaf.

Prices were a bit high, but nothing unexpected from a "touristy" hotel spot on the strip.

All of the Belmont's flaws are obvious. Painfully so in many ways. For some reason, though, things just seemed ....well.....good. Maybe it was the beautiful, warm and sunny day in January. Maybe it was the cozy little upstairs bar with a couple single malts well-stocked. Maybe it was the anticipation of our upcoming Brewfest and nothing was gonna start us off wrong. Personally, I think our server was so "seasoned" in the profession, that he picked up on our livelihood for the day and tried his best to make up for the Belmont's obvious scars. Without his service and humor, I fear the Belmont could be a nightmare dining experience for some.

This place USED to be decent but this last time was terrible! My Dad's steak was like shoe leather, my oldest son got ill, and my pasta dish was sub-par. Their clam chowder was still tasty but everything else was not good. Thats too bad. They used to be good.

We ate here twice on back to back days and the service was great, but the food was nothing out of this world, although it was decent. The salads were wonderful, but the entrees could have been executed with a more updated feel. Just because Port Townsend is an older town does not mean the food should all be from the 80s. Also, the manager was always around, which is good, but he never smiled or seemed inviting, and was sort of always lurking--a little weird, but it was great that they were open on Christmas day, and I'd eat here again for lunch, but not for a nice dinner.
