awesome selection when I can't get to my prefered place, Nadolski's in goochland.

they have a very good array  of cheeses too. i love the roaring 40's blue...its an australian blue that is not quite as funky as the french blue cheese.  they have fresh handpulled mozzarella that is very good. also have all the good hard italian and spanish cheeses.

I love that they have suggested food pairings on the shelves of their wine rack.

they have a fantastic selection of fresh grassfed beef, all kinds of good pork, and some really good poultry choices as well.

a very good array of charcuterie and cured meats. one of the few places in town i can find really good spanish dried chorizo.

they usually have foie grais on hand too.

generally its all good, but i do have to knock the sausages and lack of things from the ocean.

the sausages get a lot of hype, but their not really that great. they good but way overpriced for what they are, but i'm kind of a hard one to impress with those as I make my own. even if i wasn't a sausage elitist i would still be dismayed by the pricing on their sausages. they're ok, but not worth nearly what they charge for them.

also got to say they should do something sea related. no seafood. i guess i can kind of understand as carytown seafood was right down the street, but now that they're closed belmont has no excuse for not getting a small seafood selection going on.

overall I Love the place and I can't make my weekly pilgrimage to see Butcher Jonathan at nadolski's in goochland than Belmont is my first choice.

God this is crazy.
Mozzarella with prosciutto scattered throughout??!?!?
Sausage that will blow your mind?!?!?
Wagyu Beef?!?!?!?

It's no wonder they were featured in Food and Wine last month.  They are outta control!

Really neat. I can't say that I've ever bought meat from a butchers, but after going in Belmont Butchery I think I have to start.  Everything looked considerably fresher than what you see at Kroger and Ukrops. Not only that but, the people working there all seemed to be very knowledgeable plus they were wearing these cute black and white aprons and the whole store was very welcoming/clean/trendy looking. Not at all what I'd expect to find in a butcher shop.  I enjoyed seeing a bunch of fancy cheeses being sold as well.

Just discovered this place and wow... where have I been these two years?  Over paying for grocery quality meat or buying 200lbs of choice beef at costco?  I loved it from the moment I walked in and saw not a single piece of cut meat in the display case.  Everything you get is cut to order, and they only cut by thickness (like any good butcher should do).  They had every cut, mostly USDA choice but a couple of prime cuts that proved to be excellent.  They had their own cured bacon, and a good deal of home made stocks (time saving and YUMMY!)
I was happy to even see duck confit and home churned butter from the Amish country.  I picked up a nice 1.75" USDA Prime Ribeye and a 2" Fillet (for the lady).  I'd typically grill out regardless of the weather and time of year, but I have a 3rd story downtown loft which proves to be a difficult situation for grilling.  So I let the steaks get to room temperature while absorbing a grey salt and black pepper rub before I placed them into my cast iron grill pan.  They seared on each side to get grill marks, then under the broiler they went.
I made a compound butter with truffles that went onto the steaks as they rested for about 10 minutes.  The result was amazing.  I've cooked so many steaks but you can really tell the difference in a good quality cut of meat vs. grocery store painted meat (they add blood to make it look fresh).
I asked for Wagu beef (American Kobe), which they did not have but will happily order for you.  I'm waiting to get more friends that would appreciate it before just ordering it.
Nonetheless, by all means go here for your next steaks and enjoy all the other cool stuff.

The only place I buy meat in Richmond.  The quality is amazing, the sausage, bacon and hot dogs home made, and Tanya(the owner) and co. are extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
